Those people around him were threatening enough that I could see him thinking about drawing and he'd be perfectly justified.

Probably the transit cops so what else do they have to do.What a waste of resources though. If she refused he should be able to just write her a spot fine and be done with it. Ends up having to call back up, 2 arrests, 2 people to process and charge, train was probably delayed. Police resources are better spent elsewhere.
I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting shooting or even drawing the weapon on anyone for having their feet on a seat. There was a mention of drawing the weapon based on the actions of the people crowding around the cop. Also that people advocating police drawing their weapons in a crowded subway because someone had their feet on a seat need to think properly. What if she reacts by running away, do you then shoot her in a busy subway? Cop did the right thing.

I always wanted to work in the states as a specialist, for a few years, but as a brown guy who sports a beard for most of the year, I don't fancy my chances, looking at all this info. On a similar note, the girl in this video is silly and should have been reprimanded but who the flip arrests a couple of people over something as trivial as putting your feet on the seats in a train?!?!?!
I don't know what procedures are for transit enforcement. But you're right, resources are better utilized elsewhere. However, the situation started because of HER behavior. It escalated due to HER behavior. He followed the golden rule of ATM: Ask her to comply with the rules. Tell her to comply. then, Make her comply. Once the first 2 options have been exhausted, she forces the officer's hand. What a waste of resources though. If she refused he should be able to just write her a spot fine and be done with it. That's an LAPD sergeant. LAPD recently won a contract for jurisdiction of some of the metro lines last year. So they, along with LA sheriff's dept, patrol the metro/train lines.Probably the transit cops so what else do they have to do.
You need to read properly and understand how cops act over here. If a cop is making a bust, on their own and people around are getting in your face then you need to take control of the situation for your own safety. He asked them to back off but they were still being rowdy.
I see two people in that video, the 18 year old girl and the other one who also ended up getting arrested. I assume from the tone of voice that the person taking the video is male. They were arguing with him but I seriously don't see how drawing your weapon is going to improve that situation. He got his backup and they were arrested. Just 2 dumb kids, I'm sure most people on here have done far worse when they were young than putting their feet on a train seat. Don't think that means you deserve to have a gun pulled on you or get shot.I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting shooting or even drawing the weapon on anyone for having their feet on a seat. He probably was stationed on the train or taking the train between stations he patrolled.Definitely agree with last bit. You’d have to wonder how it escalated to the point he ended up on the train in the first place. Can only assume the silly cow was making some sort of point and the cops got called as a last resort.
Okay if you are dumb enough to think anyone is seriously suggesting shooting anyone your too stupid to continue having a conversation with. The couple of people around him were definitely aggressive towards him and failing to follow requests from the officer to the point on spit on him. Dumb kids yes, that is why they got arrested and the whole incident went as far as it did. Blame clearly lies with the two dumb kids.I see two people in that video, the 18 year old girl and the other one who also ended up getting arrested. I thought he dealt with the assholes pretty well. If you watched the video, you'd see that it wasn't him "making a scene".I don't understand why he has to be so aggressive. As a cop, you should be well versed in dealing with assholes on a regular basis. How does arresting and making a scene help anyone in this scenario?

Also missing from this is the beginning of the entire encounter between them, so we don't see how it all kicks offI thought he dealt with the assholes pretty well. If you watched the video, you'd see that it wasn't him "making a scene".

How about we don't advocate escalating the situation by involving guns, feckinell. How about we err on the side of least possible escalation and violence?I thought he dealt with the assholes pretty well. If you watched the video, you'd see that it wasn't him "making a scene".

He didn't go for his gun and escalate the situation, you saying he handled it well leads me to believe you agree that he shouldn't do that, so you are agreeing then?Put yourself in his position where he is possibly being surrounded by a tense crowd. He has to make a decision with his own safety being paramount. This is the US where people carry guns. You're that cop, do you potentially gamble your life by just assuming that everybody will be nice to you in that situation? These days too many feckers are getting in cops faces and that contributes to these distasteful incidents of overt force.
Based on what we see, he handled the situation very well IMO.
It was the minimum and appropriate amount of force to MAKE (remember the ATM rule?) Her get off the train. You're right. No one, not even cops, think its a good idea to go around arresting every back-talking teenager. But once she gets contacted by him regarding a code of conduct rule being broken, and refusing to comply, she forces the sergeant's hand to take action.I mean..he did drag her out and slam her against the wall. Both of them seem to have really poor communication skills. You can't go around arresting every teenager who likes to mouth off.
My point exactly. How about we don't advocate escalating the situation by involving guns, feckinell. How about we err on the side of least possible escalation and violence?
You know what anyone watching this young girl get manhandled for basically being a young girl and cheering and advocating more escalation/aggression needs to fcuk off. Imagine that was your daughter, some of you are weird.
@Grinner I don't need to reread anything my point which I think is clear is that I disagree with anyone claiming that he should have gone for his gun or that guns should have been involved. But I'm not American....
How about, not draw their fcuking gun? Is this a controversial request? Am I missing something? If your daughter was asked to leave a train by a cop and refused to do so what do you think the officer should do if multiple verbal requests have been refused and your daughter is being rude to him?
