Danny Welbeck

Darren Ferguson on the 'god awful' Welbeck:

Looking at the goals the first was an inspired substitution from the manager and the second was a bit of class from the Manchester United man: "We had to change it with Neill, because Youl was struggling a little bit in terms of when we had possession. I wanted to get Sean on the right side, so he could come out a little bit more and it was an added bonus that he went up and scored.

"You may call [Danny's goal] cheeky, but it was one hell of a finish. He showed great composure. You'd pay just to see that - what a magnificent finish! He was probably about the only person in the ground who'd seen it and it is one thing seeing it and another achieving it and he did it.

"We can't put too much responsibility on his shoulders. He's only 19, he hasn't been out on loan before; it's a hard league to come in to and he had some experienced defenders playing against him today who know the game, but he will grow in confidence with that. We have to get an understanding with him as well, I don't think we've been used to strikers running through and the pace he's got his team-mates have got to get used to that. We've done a lot of work on it and we'll do more work on it and the finish was absolutely magnificent. That will kick him on, I am sure, as soon as he scored you saw the shackles come off him a little bit."

Or the fact that these several glimpses of quality are non existant maybe?

Well we only have your testimony on this forum to back up that claim. I doubt you spoke to everyone and it's clear that you don't speak for the majority on here.

What I want to know is that if Welbeck does make it at Utd will you come on here and admit what an arse you made of yourself or still stick your belief that he's shit

Everyone I did speak to and have since, which admittedly isn't all but quite a few agrees with me.

And yes, if I am proves wrong I will quite happily admit I am wrong

You don't recall correctly, unless you mean about my view of him being a more technical player?[/QUOTE]

Your wrong on that score too. Blinded by the " continentals have better technique" theory

no I don't believe that at all, it's just that berbatov has sublime technique, which I can't see many arguments with.

I also don't go along with continentals being better tacticians either.

We'll hold you to that

Please do, save the quote if you wish.

However if I'm proved right will you admit you're wrong?

Wrong on what? I merely stated that the lad needs time to develop before a judgement can be delivered

I'm neither a supporter or a vehement critic. I'm looking at the bigger picture; I'd love for a homegrown local lad to succeed. However if any player whether homegrown or imported makes it at Utd it will only benefit the club at large.

I thought his sub was good. Many would have taken Welbeck off given his age (and lethagy at times) but switching Parkin up front and giving Welbeck some space on the wing really worked.

Ferguson/Welbeck Interview - PNE Player - PNE-Online

Hm!

Welbeck's Fifa 10 style dink over the keeper was sublime!!!

The best home debut goal I have ever seen...and thats 40 odd years. Fantastic.

wwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllb bbbeeeeeeeeecccccckkkkkkkkkkk

2 up

Commentator reckons it was cantonaesque....cant wait to se it on ww

Ah well, they're all happy.

Absolutely fantastic goal...

2 great debut goals to his name already!

I haven't seen all of however many minutes he played, but the finish and the some other pieces of play suggest to me what I noticed about Tevez at City as well: it really is hard playing for United, with teams defending like it's a cup final and the pressure of being expected to win every week.

interesting point

With great teams comes great expectation.

Learn to live with it, or just be another number...

Its what makes our great players truly great

Having not seen the goal and having no interest in going out of my way to do so?

What, clicking play on that youtube link higher up this page? Don't put yourself out, will you...

Even if it was tricky, why on earth do you have no interest in it?

Sorry mate, you're making a prize tit of yourself in this thread. And all because you're too proud to admit the "hate" comment was stupid.

It's going out of my way because I am watching a film currently.

And I have no interest as I don't with any of our loaned out youngsters, if I see the goal on sky sports at some point then I may comment on it.

And i'm a prize tit for not rating him in any way.

Having not seen the goal and having no interest in going out of my way to do so I am hardly going to deny it am I?

please do, I enjoy proving tossers like you wrong.

 No you're not, you're posting on an internet forum!

Fair enough, seems odd to me not to want to know how our players are progressing, but each to their own.

And i'm a prize tit for not rating him in any way.

You could say that, but I think you're being hard on yourself. You are being a prize tit for saying that you hate one of our youth players because you don't happen to think he shows as much potential as others think he does. And then spending several pages of a thread trying to back this up with more and more outlandish points (see "I'm watching a movie") instead of admitting you said something dumb.

Fair point about watching a film as I like to focus when watching a movie but I would have thought typing that post out would disturb you even more anyway.

I think people on here are forgetting (or are unaware of) the fact that Phelan's Shorts is only 17 years old, so it is not entirely surprising that he has so little patience in a player who has just turned 19 and is displaying the characteristic lack of consistancy of any player of his age - something that he is probably not accustomed too.

I remember the days when young local lads with talent were forgiven this inconsistancy and given a bit of leeway and patience. Welbeck is certainly deserving of this. To say you "hate" any player that is just finding his way in the game and who is often finding himself playing out of position is a damning indictment of any "supporter" in my opinion.

I have to say, you're not coming across very well in this thread. Poor attitude from a Manchester United supporter.

Sweet feck. So you're willing to take time out from your film to post on a forum, without taking a few seconds to acquaint yourself with how the player you're arguing over is actually performing.
