Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

Why are the BBC pundits so adamant in calling Japan embarrassing? They just qualified doing what they had to.
Why didnt Senegal score? Or why didnt Poland try and attack to make it 2 nil?

Japan have nothing to push for in that situation.
Dunno. Some people seem to think winning, or in this case getting through isn't the most important thing in football.

End of Japan match reminded me of Mexico-Italy in 2002 where the Mexicans were just decking around in their own half for a solid 10 minutes as Italy refused to press knowing Ecuador beat Croatia.

Well, at least this has made the Belgium-England match more interesting...hope James is fit for Tuesday.

The BBC we’re very biased towards Senegal IMO. Was annoying.

To be honest, Senegal made it themselves, they should've beaten Japan comfortably, they lacked composure and their GK is awful.

Honestly after that, hope Japan get absolutely battered in the next round. I understand you do what you must, but that's an embarrassment to the game. Losing and someone telling you that you're going through on yellow cards so you stop playing and take the 1-0 loss even though it could all change if Senegal scored all of a sudden. Don't like that at all
Would you feel any differently if it was goal difference or goals scored instead of yellow cards?

It does. Winner gets an easier RO16 match, but harder side of the quarters. Loser gets the opposite.

At least something like decision on penalty I suppose.

So Senegal and Japan to immediately fly to some location by helicopter to battle it out on penalties? Not feasible imo. At least this fairplay rating is based on merit unlike the lottery ticket.

It does feel stupid but I don't know what else Fifa could use.
The only other decent-ish solution I've seen is remove the games against the team that comes last and use the other results. Japan would still go through with 4 to Senegal's 1 point.

They wanted to shit their intestines out with Nigerian NT selling out their jerseys, they wanked themselves no end at Salah and his 'impact', they wanted Senegal to go through and it's apparently Japan who's embarrassing.

There's a trend with a certain continent here.

Not having it regarding Japan. Just did what they needed to do and fair play to them (it was risky after all). Nobody cares about how you play in the group games (England would do well to remember that).

We see stuff like that all the time when the result suits both teams. We did it in the last 10 minutes away to Blackburn when a draw was enough to secure the title.

If it was 0-0 no one would care about them sitting back. 1-0 down and qualifying doesn't change that.

This. Its pathetic tbh. Would've been funny if Senegal scored to see their reaction.

True unfortunately
Is there any World Cup game decide by lottery before?

Cannot wait for those Japanese to be destroyed in the next round

Hear hear.

That was pretty cowardly and disgraceful from Japan.

Hope the English/Belgium rip them apart.

The most embarassing thing is to watch a game with Danny Murphy as a pundit, the man always says it wasn't a foul just to be dismissed by the replays.

Congratulations to Japan they did nothing wrong those clowns should remember they were playing to qualify, if Senegal wanted to advance they just needed to score.

By the way I don't think Colombia would have lost the game with Japan if they didn't played with 10 men for so long. Congratulations to Radamel and James.

I'd like to think it happened before but don't ask me when. Not sure if it was NT or club either.

Would have been brilliant if Senegal scored after those Japanese antics.
