Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

No Hamez would be a big blow for Colombia. England have the golden ticket if so. Still, pretty evenly matched game.

Belgium will twat for Japan for 3-4 goals. Lukaku will probably lead the race for the golden boot once that game is over.

Colombia conceded a very early red card against Japan, and still lost only by 1 goal. They're a strong side.

The one setback for them, though, is that they've had to give 100% with their first eleven for three straight games. And now, possibly without James as well.

What?

I don't think anyone is saying it's easy. It's probably the easier side though yeah.

Easier side, fair enough.

But surely if the team is good enough the plan should be to try and win all the games and once and for all show the world that England are back on the world stage, not hope that all the others knock each other out and you guys eat up the scraps?

I just feel like the whole 'easier' side of the draw thing is being taken a little literally and may end up biting you on the arse. It's a risk, a slightly presumptive risk.

Anyone and their mother would, given the choice be on this side of the draw.

TAA was a real problem for England unfortunately. His delivery was absymal and ended alot of Englands attacks. Probably a tournament too early for him. Rose got two players booked but faded in the 2nd half and Rashford/Vardy were working from scraps. Our midfield of Dier, Delph and Loftus-Cheek were not creative enough (hardly surprising).

Probably a useful game for Southgate though as it gave him a good glimpse of which players he can get a performance from and which are out of their depth. The problem for Southgate was a lot of the players tonight looked our of their depth, so that's not exactly encouraging.

@GifLord There was a moment in the England game (ITV) where it was showing a replay of Danny Rose (I think) being fouled and it seemlessly cut to Jamie Vardy on the floor complaining.

It made it look like he'd been fouled so hard he'd changed colour - think it was around the 75 minute mark.

If you can find it and immortalise it in gif form I'll forever be in awe of your skills.

They have no chance without James, honestly. They were okay in the first game for a team that was down to 10 men for 87 minutes, they were very good against us but we were so abysmal at this tournament that it hardly means a thing and they were back to being average today against Senegal. England should have no problem beating them in current form if James is out. If James plays then he is one player that can pull something out of nowhere and Colombia would have a chance.

Japan was unwatchable especially in the last 15-20 minutes but I can understand why they were so cautious especially considering they were that close to achieving r16. They don't have the quality to go far in this tournament and they'll most likely be destroyed by Belgium but we shall see.

But that's not the first time that Japan has reached R16. They were successful in making it through both in 2002 and 2010.

A decent day of results, @LeftyBlaster ! It'd have been nice to see England win but at least we get to continue rooting for Japan for another game :D

What bobbins. We just want to win the world cup, like every other team. If we won it by winning 1-0 and scrapping to it, we'd still be world champions. I don't think there's a single English person who cares how we do it.

Can anyone explain what the Senegal defender was doing here? Looks like he's leaning on the post with his hand on his hip to me!

 Totally flat footed with no intention of moving.
Looks like he’s been instructed to just stand there it looks so bad.

I get players being told to stay on the post but that's just mental. As you say, he's flat footed just watching the game!
Yea I meant just stand there and literally not move as to not get in the keepers way.
He’s totally switched off there though, having a little break, not the best idea when you’re really needing not to concede in the last ten mins

Such a good game,Japanese are so tenacious, no matter what my fellow pool fans say elbows is so effective ,well used martinez.
