Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

Interesting how blasé everyone is about playing Colombia. They’re not an easy team and on the same side of the draw as Croatia.

Celebrating being on the ‘easy’ side Of the draw is not in the spirit of football and today’s match was an absolute joke.

This is likely to backfire

What?

I don't think anyone is saying it's easy. It's probably the easier side though yeah.

It means nothing. Neither team wanted to win, both rested most of their first team, it was fairly even, non-committed, settled by a lovely goal. If we beat Colombia the good feeling is back again. It’s probably a good thing that expectations are lowered after everyone thought we’d win the cup based on thrashing freaking Panama.

Only a dimwit would think that, similarly to think a World Cup game means nothing. For a game that means nothing, and neither team "wanted" to win, we've ended up losing. We had the chance to prove we had something about us to beat a team that was considered a "top" one. Like somebody mentioned, Pickford is our number 1. He's less than reassuring. Colombia isn't a given, not at knockout stage.

It seems that one of Ronaldo, Messi, Griezmann, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Hazard is going to play the final versus Spain.

Well the strategists got their way. So how confident does everyone feel now?

Not very I’d wager. If we had played our best side and won we’d be thinking ‘bring it on’ regardless of who we might meet.

Now we’re in the so-called soft half of the draw. But we’ve just lost and played in a manner reminiscent of all our recent competitions. People will be coming out with the same old shit about picking ourselves up, bouncing back etc etc.

Now the pressures on because we’ve got the supppssed easy route. The papers will have a field day and next thing you know we will have the jitters against Colombia.

Feck losing! It’s wrong all day long.

No, I'd be thinking "ah well, out in the quarters".

If we go out to Colombia, then so be it, we don't deserve to be there, but what an opportunity now to get to the semis, maybe even the final... of the world fecking cup! Then who knows, anything can happen in a final!

I don't want to sound to sound too scouse here, but this is our year!

Guess what, he's pretty much the only one I care about in the team. Happy for him to score 2 goals, the rest can feck off as they don't deserve any support.

Bet it was painful having to cheer for him, though. Can't imagine how that must have felt.

Well I hope Englands "A" team players are well rested as they will need to attack for 90 minutes against Columbia.

Our midfield, defence and keeper is crap and Colombia will lambada their way to 3 or 4 goals unless England get a quick lead and break their spirit.

If COlombia beat England then massive egg on face for Southgate.

After tonight he has told the media "What that means for the next round we don't really know".

That's a blatant lie.

A defeat to Colombia and all the euphoria will have been for victories over the mighty Panama & Tunisia.

I don't think the so called best teams in this tournament are that good tbh or germany would have absolutely killed it. I dont mind careful optimism but it doesn't need to be to an extreme.

Tbf I agree. No one has looked overly impressive but I’ve loved Croatia so far. I just find it funny that the media made such a big deal about how they wouldn’t overrate this England side but that’s exactly what they’re now doing.

Very hard to tell. They've beaten better teams than Tunisia and Panama, but their performances have been all over the place, from woeful to brilliant.

Agree.

If the Colombia that played against Poland turns up then England are in for a tough night.

If the Colombia that played against Japan or Senegal turns up then I expect England to beat them.

Definitely would have happened.

But the confidence going forward.

We’d could have then gone on to trounce Japan. Kane could have added 3 goals to his tally and we’d have had no fear of Brazil or Mexico.

Where are we now in terms of momentum?

It’ll be like starting again.

I’m telling you this isn’t as great as many think.

I can see us bottling it next game.

I tend to feel the same. Southgate has made a rod for his own back if we go out. Colombia are a decent side so it will be a hard game. We should have played a stronger side and looked to beat them. It all hinges on what happens aginst Colombia though. If we make the quarters it will be seen as a good run for this side.

We could have beat Japan 7-0 and I'd still be hugely worried facing Brazil the next round.

England wouldn't get past Brazil in the quarters. Could easily go out to Colombia but this is definitely the preferable side of the draw for England.

Colombia conceded a very early red card against Japan, and still lost only by 1 goal. They're a strong side.

So can I but although there is still better odds being in this side of the draw rather than the other. They could lose to Columbia they could also lose to Japan but if they get past either of those teams you would rather be against Sweden than Brazil.

I thought Vardy worked hard (for little reward though).
