Having a 50% wage ratio of turnover is extremely high, and at the boarder of what is sustainable for a business.
Most football clubs are making losses, and the players' wages are a big factor in those losses.

I don't think footballers specifically think about their grandkids' future, but I'm certain they think about their parents, children and close relatives. I'm also certain they want to provide the absolute best lives possible for their children and that would include their children able to provide in turn for their children.
The point I was trying to make is that people seem to hold players to a higher standard than a normal man on the street. If I wasn't a fan of United or City (e.g. Nasri etc) and City came in offering a lot more money why wouldn't I go to City? I'd say as of right now you'd have a similar chance of winning trophies at either club and the only reason(s) I can see for choosing United is history or wanting to work with Fergie, both of which I'm sure are low down on the list of priorities for most players.
50% of wages to turnover is extremely low for a Football club. So much so that the majority of clubs could not even be slightly competitive if they tried to sustain that level. Wages have gone up exponentially in the last 10-12 years. The reason for this is not (mostly) down to a couple of wealthy owners, as a lot of people would have you believe. It's that transfer fees have gone down quite substantially in comparison over the last 10-12 years and to compensate wages have increased dramatically.
A top class player is still cheaper now over a 5 year period than they were 10-12 years ago (pro-rata). The difference being that the majority of the fee now goes to the player, not the selling club. Common sense would suggest that to stay competitive, you have to use the large saving in transfer fees paid to lift the wages cap to 60 odd % at least.

France Football are quite a respectable source, or so I gather. It also ties in with an "insider rumour" that was doing the rounds on one or two Spurs message boards during the January transfer window.
But the lack of any direct quotes, plus the fact that the report says that a fee has yet to be agreed between the the clubs (even if were true that Hazard has agreed to come) means that a huge amount of scepticism is justified.
Still, you never know .... it's certainly not ridiculous to imagine that Hazard might be looking favourably at Spurs.

Indeed. All of them are more or less a guaranteed CL football for the next few years at least, Tottenham are still unsure of that. They will most likely lose their manager after season as well which could have various effects on their future.
Mind you, with a couple of signings like these they might genuinely catch up with the likes of United and City soon.

Spurs has a long way to go before they can hope to challenge United and City on a consistent basis. They haven't got the squad depth that the other two have, and depend on 14-15 players - whereas United and City basically have 2 teams of quality players each.
If there is ONE player I'd want at United, it's Bale.
Doubt we've got the cash to get him though, unless he makes it clear United was the only team for him.
