Everton vs Manchester United

Laughable.

It's a shocking state of affairs when our main title challengers are more creative and have better attacking football than United. Not one match, but a few seasons.

We really are soulless. I don't know what's gone wrong in the last couple of years. We've come close to league and even won it. But our performances, have really not been any better than average.

who is this fool?

Pre- season was shit, players don't look sharp, injuries to
4 centre backs- WTF.

Tonight like city and Newcastle away last year we were outfought and outmuscled and lacked desire.

On a positive de gea and kagawa were very good and this result
May see us buy a quality powerful midfielder we so badly lack.

Turn off the computer and take a little time away from the internet. You're making a tit of yourself.

Not really, you will soon realise that I said this about United every season since 2009. We're not working hard enough to get the ball, and there's too much low risk passing and slow passing in the build-ups. Over-all it makes our game look slow and lethargic.

Nothing new to my posts. We've had the problem for years. Not enough pressure or some people call "passion" and not enough pace and strength in the midfield.

FFS this is only the first match of the season and one of the hardest away games, get a grip.

can i ask why my motm thread was deleted?

Rooney was sluggish, Nani had a poor day, Valencia was wasted at RB.

On the positive sides, Vidic was great, Cleverley, Kagawa and DDG all did well, and I'd like to see how other teams would cope with having 4 centre backs injured and having to rely on their best centre mid playing at the back.

For the love of god, Nani, please, work on your corners.

Rooney's fitness has to be worked on, definitely, I'll bet he can't get past the 50th minute mark in the next match.

Defence was solid, Carrick can't do anything about Fellaini, understandable.

Kagawa showed nice touches and runs, he has to gel into the team, give it time.

Ashley Young certainly made a bigger impact than Nani did.

First game of the season, I wouldn't look into it so much, we still have unfit players. Ignore the press humiliating columns and concentrate on the next game please.

We made Gibson and Neville look like world beaters.

Looked absolutely clueless up front. 99% possession and the only thing we come up with is giving it to Evra and sometimes to Valencia for them to smash it in the Everton's fullbacks.

Kagawa looked like the only one with a football brain. I'm sure we'll turn him into sideways-passing-to-fullbacks machine soon enough.

It's getting more and more usual for us to have frustrating nights of sideways passing, waiting for the defense to tire and make way and donate an opportunity. Only positive out of this game is Kagawa, even my sister who doesn't know who Rooney is said "that Asian is a class above the rest, why don't they help him out?".

central midfielder

And how would a different central midfielder have altered todays outcome? We lost today because of poor performances from 3 of our 4 most attacking players, and a lack of defense... midfield really didn't have much to do with it.

Rio and jones/smalling would have made a difference for set pieces but we lost the ball plenty of times in the middle and that's where someone with defensive quality would have made a difference. Not necessarily by winning the ball in the air but by taking up a better position to deal with the second ball. Scholes is reckless and cleverley gets drawn in to the ball too much and people can turn him.

Still not mny harder games in a season than everton away particularly with only one physically dominant player, especially if they're playing their first competitive game in ages.

Looked like a squad still getting used to each other which is not surprising, especially given we had 4 centre backs missing (yes 4!!!) and new new multi million pound stars.

Am not overtly bothered, We are Manchester United, we always start seasons crap ... its par for the course.

squad will quickly find rhythm once Carrick can get back in central midfield and the wingers start to get the laser tracking system in their boots working.

Maybe it's a blessing to lose rather than draw. At least this match really highlights that we cannot afford our pedestrian build-up play, there is no urgency, no pace...so we really need to address that and our team selection should reflect that

I'm worried about our left side because we have a very one-dimensional threat down there in Young with his stopping a break and crossing/shooting with the right or Evra whipping a cross into a defender. It is almost pointless to pass the ball to that side.

Shame van Persie made his debut in such a team-no-show, it was almost as boring as our pre-season games.

Nailed on dude.

Yeah a loss is a loss, nothing to panic about. We'll be in the top 3 for certain. We will win some good games, lose some. The problem is the same though. We don't have a powerful, fast, or strong midfielder. None of the 3. Forcing the ball our wide to a winger, will work against some sides. Probably not against all.

First time in eight seasons we lose the opener

 That's going to happen.

BTW, why was Van Persie taking corners? did he do same at Le Arse?

Yes and then Rooney took the corner from the other flank. United must be the world's first team ever to use 2 strikers as corner takers....

Tonight reminded me just how much I hate losing.

We've got to find an answer to teams who pressurise us constantly and attempt to outmuscle us. It was painfully clear they wanted this more than us. We didn't match their workrate which left us struggling to impose our quality on the game. Our attackers really disappointed me out there.

This is true and has been far too often in recent years, but you'll probably be ripped for it.

Noodle's zombie passing.

1) Starting 4-4-2 away in Goodison Park was suicidal given our depleted defence and soft pairing of Cleverly and Scholes. We were outfought, outnumbered again.

2) Again, nobody marking the nearpost. I thought its common standards to have a player on the near and farpost?

3) Rooney is again off-form, heavy touch, lack of imagination, slow

4) Carrick on Fellani at setpieces was a joke

We didn't. Welbeck were on the left wing (with Rooney covering a few times when Welbeck stayed up) and when Young came on RvP and Rooney took turns on the right wing. Only towards the end did both Rooney and RvP stay on top.

We didn't move the ball quick enough when we had the chances to attack and they bullied us in 50/50 situations. Nani and Rooney both had poor games and both Everton's CB's were inspired.

I thought Kagawa was our only stand out forward and Cleverley was economic but didn't really put a foot wrong as such.

Bad start but Everton really played well so it wasn't just our poor play that cost us the match, our lack of physicality centrally is very evident though.

???? did I miss something?

Such a depressing result. Didn't expect us to lose to everton..who are notorious for starting off slow. I suppose we were always going to struggle against that clown fellaini without a proper centreback. Whats even worse is we're not getting any of our injured players back anytime soon. Its so fecking frustrating; injuries carrying on from last season into this season. Getting ridiculous really.

Nice to see Kagawa prove that he is light years ahead of most of our midfielders in terms of creativity and footballing brain. I'd love to see us actually vary our play instead of always try to go through the wings. Its not even like we have anybody who is a good header of the ball. We've become very predictable in our approach play and an organised team like everton knows exactly how to deal with us.

Question.

In the Aston Villa - West Ham game, for West Ham's goal, thelinesman flagged for offside but referee Mike Dean overruled the linesman's decision and counted he goal. His reasoning was that the ball had come off an Aston Villa defender's head.

Well, last night, there was a moment in the first half. Our players were in the Everton box and Kagawa was adjudged to have been offside. It was clear as day that it was Distin who played the ball to Kagawa's feet by tackling Welbeck, yet, Kagawa was adjudged to have been offside.

So, which is it? Does it matter if the ball comes off of an opponent's leg in an offside situation?

Nani and Rooney in particular were rubbish. Rooney looks out of shape.

Far too static, sideways zombie passing.

None of our players could beat a man one on one.

DDG and Kagawa were promising.

Other than that.....not many positives from today.
