Manchester United vs Arses
Date: Saturday, 21 May 2005, 15:00
Competition: FA-Cup
Venue: Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

I think Manchester United will win, but if I had to bet my house, I would pick Arsenal.
It's a simple statistical question. We have already won 3 times, and I guess it's their time to win.

Seriously, with Silva and BFD (big fat diver), I don't think it will be as easy as the Highburry one.

Do we still have to fear princess Reyes's revenge?

1-0 United RvN Penalty (90)

Oh wouldnt that be nice

Cant see it happening with Wesley Brown in defence and Roy Howard in goals.

Sorry to say I think it's Arsenal's Cup. Have thought so since before the sixth round - the old adage, they've got their name on the cup. We seem to have lost it to a certain extent right now with so many things weighing heavily on us. Glazer, Rio, Giggs, the goalkeepers, future of Keane, question marks about Scholsey and not least question marks in some quarters about Fergie himself. We're a little demotivated after the Chelsea game, where we were effectivley outplayed and this so soon after really dismal results against West Brom, Everton and Norwich. Plus the fact that we've beaten Arsenal in the last three games. A fourth consecutive win is too much to ask for surely - particularly given the state of things at OT? Meanwhile at Highbury just about all is hunky dory. Yes they lost their championship but have secured second place and have more than a couple of very promising youngsters coming through and actually establishing themselves. A new stadium to go to ultimately and, unlike United, some cash to spend on one or two new faces this summer. They're playing extremely well and should really beat us on current form alone.

So it's Arsenal to put the final touch to what has been a very difficult and disappointing season for us. Let's hope I've jinxed them !

Who gives a shit about stats. Both teams look as good as eachother on paper. Its whoever performs on that day. C'mon United!

Tight match, but I'm having a feeling that the lads will give everything since I beleive that our team's facing a new ERA and they would want to finish it on a high note.

I'll always beleive in MY team.

this match is going to be crazy
keano to break someones legs be good

Ok, hoping the players I picked are fit and not ruled out yet.

------Carroll------
Gaz-Rio-Micky-O'Shea
Ronaldo-Fletch-Keane-Giggs
---Ruud--Rooney---

Subs: Howard, Wes, Fortune, Scholes, Smith (FA needs to allow 7 subs)

Assuming Scholes is less than 100% fit to start.

---------Carroll---------------
--Gaz--Rio--Brown--Silvestre--
------Keane-----Fletcher-----
--Ronaldo--Rooney---Giggs---
----------Ruud-------------

That's if Scholesy not playing at all.

That lineup might add a bit of steel in the middle of the park. Will miss the creativity of Scholes though.

FERDINAND DISMISSES 'GLAZER EFFECT'

Rio Ferdinand has assured Manchester United fans the spectre of Malcolm Glazer's £790million takeover will have no effect on their attempt to beat Arsenal in Saturday's FA Cup final.

The most eagerly-anticipated final in recent memory has largely been overshadowed by Glazer's lightning move to seize control at Old Trafford.

Although Glazer and son Joel have no plans to attend the Millennium Stadium game, the 78-year-old's strike has created a sense of uncertainty within the club.

Supporters are intending to launch major demonstrations in Cardiff to protest at the buy-out, which is now virtually complete.

United did try give off the impression it was business as usual yesterday by confirming Ryan Giggs and Tim Howard had signed extended contracts.

Ferdinand may be yet to settle his own long-term future, but the England defender insisted nothing will deflect United from their mission.

"It has not been difficult for players to focus at all," said the 26-year-old Londoner.

"This is a massive game for us. It is a one-off cup final that we have to win to put some more silverware into the cabinet.

"That is our aim and nothing that happens off the pitch is going to get in the way of it."

The words will no doubt be welcomed at Glazer's home base in Florida as his camp try to prove their intentions for United are purely positive.

They also provide ample evidence of the determination within the United squad to make up for another disappointing Premiership campaign, punctuated by a second successive early exit from the Champions League.

From his personal standpoint, Ferdinand has even more reason to hope Sir Alex Ferguson's men can record their fifth straight win in competitive action against the Gunners.

The England international, who has been excused an appearance on this month's controversial trip to the United States, was a frustrated spectator a year ago when United romped to a record 11th FA Cup triumph with a 3-0 win over outclassed Millwall.

His discomfort was a legacy of the eight-month ban he incurred for failing to attend a drugs test the previous September.

That mistake cost him what would have been the second winners' medal of his United career following the Premiership title triumph which arrived in the season after his British record £29.3million move from Leeds.

"I just sat behind the dug-out and watched," he recalled.

"It was a weird feeling. It was the first FA Cup final I had ever been to in any capacity and I was looking around with mixed emotions.

"Obviously I would have loved to play but I also had my fingers crossed because I wanted United to win.

"In the end, it became quite an easy game.

"I was really pleased for the young lads like Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher, who had not previously won anything with the club. For them to get a medal was really fantastic."

Ferdinand limited his congratulations to a few dressing-room pats on the back before heading off to leave his team-mates to their celebrations.

He did think about going on to the pitch at the final whistle but eventually decided he would wait for a more appropriate opportunity.

"I just stayed inside and let the boys enjoy it," he said.

"It was their moment and it seemed like the natural thing to do. I want to be able to celebrate when I have won it."

Although he has previously apologised to United's supporters for the fallout which accompanied the drugs test blunder, he is not approaching Saturday's match with any sense of this being payback time for what happened 12 months ago.

Instead, he feels all the United squad should view the Arsenal collision as an opportunity to make up for some of the misery experienced during a season which has condemned the club to yet another unwanted Champions League qualifier in August.

"I don't think it is just a repayment from my point of few, all the players think the same way," he said.

"We have let ourselves down in the league a little bit this season and we want to give the fans something to smile about."

Scholes Injury Fears For United

Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Paul Scholes who could miss the FA Cup Final with a groin injury.

The influential midfielder was forced to miss Sunday's final game of the Premiership season at Southampton with the problem and is now touch and go for the Arsenal match on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson will give the player as much time as possible to prove his fitness and may even decide to play the England international if he is not 100 per cent fit.

Meanwhile, Ferguson insists United are not afraid of Arsenal and says his side have enough pace to cope with the Gunners' attacking threat.

One thing's for sure, we're certainly not afraid of them," he told the official Manchester United magazine.

"A lot of teams, particularly some of the weaker teams in the league, tend to be frightened of Arsenal's pace.

"But that's not an issue for us. We have enough pace in our team and we know how to handle them.

"Any game against Arsenal nowadays is going to have extra tension, but the FA Cup Final itself has always been a fantastic experience for us over the years and you can't help but think it's a great opportunity to bring silverware to the club."

Don't you love the way Rio bigs it up like he's some veteran with a massive medal haul. In fact he's got 1 PL medal (which he contributed very little to in most peoples opinion) and that's it. Cock.

Van Nistelrooy issues Cup warning

Ruud van Nistelrooy has warned his Manchester United team-mates to avoid personal feuds with Arsenal players in Saturday's FA Cup final.

In recent years, the rivalry between the teams has become increasingly ill-tempered but he says they must avoid letting it become a grudge match.

"There's a history between the clubs and there have been problems between us," he told the Daily Express.

"The world will be watching, so let's hope it's a great football spectacle."

Van Nistelrooy was involved in a notorious clash with Martin Keown at Old Trafford last season, and this year's meeting ended in the notorious "Battle of the Buffet" but the Dutchman was full of positivity about this encounter.

"It's going to be a great final, the best you can imagine and the one that everybody wanted," he said.

"We have got one trophy left to go for and that is the FA Cup. We have to win it."
