There could be an adjustment to those kick off times.

United v Arsenal or Spurs v Arsenal @ 5:15pm another recipe for getting pissed all day and fighting.

They said at the beginning of the season that they would be holding them there as a thank you to Cardiff.

Before we move everything back to wembley.
Thats fair play then I guess.

But what about FIFA's or UEFA's rule, that doesn't allow to play at the same pitch two days in row? AKA the Milan situation

McGuinness slams Cardiff semis

FORMER Manchester United boss Wilf McGuinness has joined a leading Old Trafford fans group in criticising the decision to hold both FA Cup semi-finals at the Millennium Stadium.

The Independent Manchester United Supporters Association have accused the Football Association of opting for a money-making exercise, labelling Cardiff a "crazy place" to host the Red Devils' tie with Newcastle.

They suggest Leeds' Elland Road ground would be a more suitable venue for the match, which will take place on either April 16 or 17.

Arsenal's meeting with Blackburn will also go ahead in the Welsh capital, when traditional semi-final venue Villa Park would have appeared a more attractive alternative for supporters.

McGuinness added his voice to that argument as he told United's official website: "I'm looking forward to watching both semi-finals but why on earth the FA have decided to hold both matches at the Millennium Stadium is beyond me.

"It's not fair on any of the supporters of the four teams left in the competition and I think the FA are just trying to make things as expensive as they can for the fans. I just don't understand their thinking at all."

Comment: Millenium madness

THE idiocy, unfairness and downright danger of playing the two FA Cup semi-finals in Cardiff on the same weekend would be unthinkable - if it was not the FA pulling the strings.

The whole thing is a recipe for disaster, at a time when football needs to be restoring its tarnished image.

Four sets of football fans will be milling around the city on the Saturday night, those lingering after the game that day, and those arriving early for the Sunday match.

Throw in the marauding Cardiff fans - who have a bad reputation for violence - and you have a volatile cocktail, especially given the bad relationship between Manchester United and Arsenal in recent seasons.

But the intention of a few drink-fuelled, fight-happy nutters to knock each other senseless is only one of myriad problems this dim-witted idea throws up.

Semi-final day should be a great day out at a neutral venue, as close to geographically equidistant from the two clubs involved as possible.

In other words, United v Newcastle should be at Elland Road, and Arsenal v Blackburn at Villa Park.

Weak

The FA's weak defence is that holding the games at the Millennium Stadium will allow more fans the chance to see the games. That roughly translates as allowing more fans to fork out their hard-earned cash for the FA's coffers. Football fans know the score when it comes to semis, and accept the fact that each side may only get 20-odd thousand tickets as opposed to the 30-odd thousand they will get for the Millennium Stadium.

Real fans tend to get hold of tickets for these games, regardless. What they don't accept is a trek to the wilds of south Wales - a horrendous journey down Britain's biggest cul-de-sac - for a game that is one short of the final.

Of course, the trials of the supporters battling their way through 20-mile long snarl-ups in the Valleys, or trying to book a hotel room for the night, means not a jot to the people who made this crass decision. Their plush hotel rooms will have been booked months ago. This will not be the last season this happens. Next season the final and both semis will be held at the new Wembley Stadium, as the FA's indecent scramble to raise the mammoth £757m price of their new gaff continues.

Same old story - football authorities muck it up, fans have to pay.

In 2000 the FA urged United to go to Brazil for the World Club Championships and then conveniently ducked back into the trenches when the flak began to fly around the Reds' ears.

Then they talked about holding next season's final on a Wednesday and scrapping replays in the fifth and sixth rounds.

Now this abomination, although it was decided back in September.

So, next time you hear someone from Soho Square blathering on about the magic of the FA Cup, treat it with the contempt it deserves.

It'll all come around. The FA are only making themselves look bad. Simply stupid.

Ruud backs fans over Cardiff semi

RUUD van Nistelrooy has claimed it is a 'shame' Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final with Newcastle will be played in Cardiff.

Despite coming under intense pressure from sections of the United support to move the game from the Millennium Stadium to Leeds' Elland Road ground, the Football Association will not switch the venue.

"It is a shame the match is in Cardiff," the prolific Dutchman said.

"I liked it how it was before with the semi-final at Aston Villa or another neutral ground. Then the teams in the final can enjoy the special feeling of going to Cardiff."

I loved the drive through the beautiful Welsh countryside last year, dont take the boring motorway if your driving from the North.

This is good advice...

I used to work down there a lot on the motorway extension.

Head along the M56 and turn left.

Takes maybe an hour longer but it's tip top scenery.

Driving? You must be joking.

Our flight leaves Newcastle at 8am and lands at Cardiff an hour later.

Return flight leaves at 7pm and I will be home by 8:30.

Civilised.

Vieira fires United warning

PATRICK Vieira has every confidence Arsenal could yet salvage their own double from this season - by beating Manchester United to second place in the Premiership and lifting the FA Cup.

Despite a successful Barclays Premiership title defence now looking out of their grasp, victory at Blackburn on Saturday kept the Gunners within two points of second-placed United.

Arsenal will meet Mark Hughes' men again in next month's FA Cup semi-final at the Millennium Stadium and the France midfielder believes it would be some achievement to go on to lift the famous trophy as runners up in the league.

"Arsenal are a big club and we want to finish as high as we can," said the Gunners skipper.

"We know that to finish first will be very difficult and that Chelsea are in a really good position to win the Premiership.

"We wanted to keep tight on Manchester United, because to get second place would be really important."

Vieira added on Arsenal's website: "Hopefully if we finish second and win the FA Cup, it would be a good season for us."

BBC grabs United semi

The BBC has chosen to screen the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Newcastle United on Sunday 17 April, kick-off 2pm.

That means that the Arsenal-Blackburn tie will be broadcast by Sky on Saturday 16 April at 12:15pm.

Both kick-off times have been set by the Football Association

Don't worry Patrick, we've already done the double over you and will quite happily make it a treble if the opportunity arises.

Is there going to be a new thread to the Newcastle match ?
