Falklands

c) Peace and tranquility in West------unparalleled wealth in world. Brian, are you aware at all of how eurocentric your views are? There are still billions of people worldwide who are living in poverty. Those same people would still be living in poverty if there were no nukes. But at least they wouldn't be dying of smallpox and have a fighting chance against all the other diseases they're exposed to.

Of course my views are Eurocentric, I am talking about Europe.

again, you'll also be a lot poorer if there was a pandemic

World War One was far more devastating on us than the Spanish Flu was, the country's entire economic output isn't focused on disease prevention as it is on total war.

who cares? again, you are talking about you, but you have stated that the A Bomb was the life saviour of the world

the spanish flue didn't touch argentina, the a bomb didn't touch argentina, the friking world wars didn't touch argentina, but still i think they were a very low point for the humanity

i guess its because i don't think the world revolves around me

Why do people get so angry on this site when they are not agreed with? You need to work on your people skills.

It has been coming through your posts, particularly the last one.

the one saying that even though non of the disgraces that happened in the world touched argentina, i still think they were very low points for the humanity?

not at all,

i still think your views of the world are very different from mine

you find a lot of excuses to make other people suffer, i dont

you back nuking countries, i dont

you back economic meassures that makes poor people poorer, i dont

your aim is wealth at any cost, mine not

well, only because TBGB can't press the button, else, we would have been fried long time ago

Was I not arguing with you this morning that I thought the atomic bomb was the most important invention of the twentieth century because it stopped major wars?

i wouldnt call it "arguing"

i'd say that you were teaching us, third world inhabitants, what you think

I'm all for letting the people on those islands decide their own determination, and I think that it's wrong that your country wastes so much of its time over a bit of geography that isn't yours, but belongs to the people that live on them. However, I think that sending that warship was not a very good idea on the part of the British government or the Royal Navy, especially at this time, and should also be seen by the British public as a total waste of Her Majesty's resources. Are you about to attack? No! So why send a 1 billion quid ship there loaded with god knows how much it costs munitions? I'm not buying this relieving an old clapped out frigate crap, they'd send another old clapped out frigate as they have to the Persian Gulf, this is the British Government waving their cock in the air, and I condemn it!

I haven´t read the entire thread, only a few pages, so maybe this was already talked about.

Was a referendum ever made in the Falklands regarding independency or inclusion in Argentina?

Anyway from my limited knowledge, it seems that the Falklands are little more than a convenient tool for the argentinian leaders to keep the flame of patriotism alive in the lower and middle classes.

Falkanders overwhelmingly want to remain British. They speak English with a recognisably British accent, they are schooled under the UK curriculum and they have no link to Argentina whatsoever. They are British nationals and there is no desire to be part of Argentina any more than there is to be part of any other country. Why would there be?

The only way Argentina would be able to rule the islands is if they removed the Falkanders from their homes and replaced them with Argentinians. Even the suggestion that the territory should be handed over to the Argentinians is ludicrous and in my opinion Britain should take a firmer stance. How would we feel if a foreign country were constantly threatening to take our home territory against our wishes? It shouldn't be allowed.

I understand that, was just wondering if an official referendum was ever made, that's all. Not that unofficial surveys aren't valid, I'm just curious.

No, there is no need for a referendum. There is a greater chance of Texas voting to become part of Russia than there is of the Falkland Islanders voting to become an Argentinian territory.

i agree with you, the islands belong to their inhabitants, and they always said they want to be british

is not like one day we woke up and a bunch of argentinians decided to segregate

i don't know why we keep messing around with that topic, my guess is that the fishing permits and the oil have a lot to do with that

it also is not an unpopular matter, so when an argie goverment claims that they belong to us, the population smiles agreeing

but rest asure that no argie is stupid enough to think that war is the solution

and england sending that ship, i think, as you said, it's a demonstration of british power and a reasurance to the islanders that the british goverment is behind them

i don't like when TBGB or some other posters start making coments about the war as it was a football game, or "your country is the only stupid country that attacked a nuclear power" because that's the bully politics, the one that says "no matter if you are right or wrong, we have the weapons, you stay put"

It's up to the Islanders if they want to hold a referendum, and given that they haven't held one, it seems that they don't. That's the whole point of self-determination: they decide what goes on there.

Now we really should be scared, Argentina has the support of Sean Penn.

This is becoming more and more bizarre.

At the rate they're going the Argentine Government will be wheeling out Carlos Tevez to indicate his support next.

Theres goes settling it by penalty shoot-out then.

He makes the claim he doesn't care eitherway but he always comes up for over the top 'analysis' of my position.

What makes that moreso amusing is that it was his own football authorities that named their league after the Belgrano.

South America makes Africa look progressive at times.

It's an odd one. I was toying with the theory that it was a response to the Argentinians trying to block trade and refuse ships flying the Falklands flag from its ports. If we had a ship in the area, it could ensure safe passage for the Falklands ships if things escalate. It's probably more likely to be a show of strength though.

Shit just got real.......

first of, i not only said i don't care, i also said i don't want them, for all i care you can have them for ever and ever

what i dont like is when idiots like you (and when i use idiots in plurar i mean you and you alone) want to nuke buenos aires over a verbal dispute

second, i dont know what my opinion has to do with the argentinian footbal authorities, because i'm not one of them, so i can think whatever i want about the matter,

what other people do, doesn't make my position amusing. even a stupid beligerant sad feck like you might understand it, if its explained patiently, ask your mum

third, the "South America makes Africa look progressive at times" sounds so racist that, again, i can only reply to you with go feck yourself, cnut!

indeed, sean penn is another idiot that likes to talk about others without knowing shit, his support for Chavez is ridiculous, he should live there to see how things are

reminds me of the "comunists" that when they had to leave their 0wn countries for all the fecks up they did there, instead of going to a comunist country, went to france, mexico and spain

they want "comunism" for the others, not for them

tipical bleeding heartsw with their heart in the left, but the pocket on the right
