Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Just need to stop rushing him back, thigh injuries are tricky to recover from.

This seems to happen a lot to players who move from England to Spain. It might be something to do with the ground they're training on or something. Different soil/grass/density might take a while to adjust. Ronaldo had some similar issues early on if I recall.

Maybe they're just allergic to good food, babes and weather, at first! ;)

Harry Redknapp has revealed how irritated he used to get over Gareth Bale during his time at Tottenham as he would always be worrying about his hair in training.

APGareth Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid for a world-record transfer fee.

Train: Defence as attack
In his autobiography which is beingserialised by the Daily Mail, the former Spurs boss believed Bale may never have become the player he is now because he "was not the strongest of characters".
Bale was sold to Real Madrid for a world-record 85 million pounds towards the end of the summer transfer window, but has been hampered by injuries since his arrival to the Bernabeu.
And Redknapp wrote how the Welsh winger constantly frustrated him.
"He drove me mad in training. Technically, he was outstanding but he always seemed to be playing with his hair," Redknapp, now in charge of Queens Park Rangers, said. "It was never right. He'd be flicking the fringe or wiping it out of his eyes and I would be going quietly mad, just watching. 'Gareth, leave your barnet alone! Gareth! Stop touching your hair!'"
Redknapp also explained how by toughening up his former player Bale was able to become a key player for Tottenham over the past couple of seasons.
"He was always getting a little knock in training, too. He'd go down then limp off and I always thought the physios made too much fuss of him," he said.
"It was the same pattern every morning: Gareth would tumble and stay there, and they'd all go running over.
In the end I told them just to leave him alone. 'Don't worry,' I said, 'he'll be fine in two minutes. If it is anything urgent we'll soon know.' "That's what they did and, as predicted, Gareth got up, got on with it and got better and better.
"With Gareth, it was all about building up his confidence. We shifted him to wide left and moved Luka Modric inside so they would link up. And we were beginning to hurt teams. "

Ooops.

Real Madrid have been forced to deny Marca's claim that Bale has a herniated disk in his lower back. A problem that might sooner or later require surgery. Instead they say that he has a small but chronic protrusion of one of the disks: "a common problem for footballers." Something which they say was identified during the transfer medical and does not cause him any pain.

You pays your money, and you hope your insurance policy covers any complications...

Mind you, Ronaldo has a chronic ankle condition - the same one he was operated on for when he was with us and after a couple of months injury/reinjury in his first season they worked out how to manage that one.

Do Real Madrid have insurance on him? I remember reading that ronaldo was insured and that covers his wages if he's injured? I had no idea such a thing even existed. Do they have insurance if players like ronaldo/bale get a career ending injury?

Don't terrorise mick, I juts nicked his 'm since y keyboards falling apart. He is an Arse hero BTW.

So you copied and pasted the m?

I remember once when my pcs keyboard port broke I copied and pasted letters/words to write entire paragraphs. Took me about an hour to write a few lines.

Could be a lie, but I remember hearing that Ronaldo's right leg is insured for some absurd amount.

He's allegedly got a herniated disc and a 'protrusion' that may develop into a further problem. Henry had similar probs when Arsenal flogged hiim to Barca, took him 18 months to get sorted and he was never the same again.

I fully expected him to just get better and better at the age of 32 as well.

If he does have a disc problem, than hes pretty much screwed. Sure it can be repaired, but for a dynamic player like Bale he is going to lose his edge.

Its crazy to think Real paid that sort of money if bale had any significant degeneration to his discs.

I thought that. It's not that hard to detect a herniated disk; moreover, depending on the severity of the problem, treatments vary from physical therapy to epidural injections and sometimes surgery. If the disk is pushing on the nerve root, it can cause radiculopathy, which is hellish and if it's in the lumbar spine, a severe case can cause fecal and urinary incontinence. I wouldn't wish that problem on my worst enemy.

Who cares if he cost a few million more or less than Ronaldo? Does anyone seriously give a shit about such things? Its completely meaningless. That article makes it sound like Bale will be distraught about this news, but I cant imagine he will give it a second's thought. If anything it could be a relief if it reduces the pressure just a fraction and people stop banging on about it.

Many people do.

I wouldn't believe a word Perez said.

Bale's agent a few days ago:
Barnett told the TV station La Sexta: "The whole story is complete rubbish, irresponsible and a disgrace. I was contacted by a reporter from Marca: I told them that it was complete rubbish and yet they still printed it. Whatever they say is a lie. It is stupid and irresponsible. He passed the medical and he is 100% fit. There is nothing wrong with him. He is the most expensive signing in history; if there had been any problem they would have stopped the signing." http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/12/gareth-bale-real-madrid-back-problem

It's neither here nor there scrapping over a few million, but Perez has more of an agenda imo.

Presumably the ambiguity is currency fluctuations? So Bale cost more in euros, but if you convert back into sterling on the respective dates the sums were paid, Ronaldo cost more? I cant be arsed to check.

That place is such a circus at times

Perez trying hard to convince Ronaldo Bale isn't the most expensive player in the world. It wouldn't surprise me if he'd "under insure" him off a few million just to prove it anyway.

Then the agent's convinced he's the most expensive signing in the world. FFS. fecking egotistical twats.

Ronaldo was €94m at that time, so if the 91 are correct, then it's not because of currency fluctuations.
