Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Remember when Bale won the Player of the Year award over Nani and the caf shit it's collective pants?

How'd that work out?

The way you just described it! Unless you're suggesting that the future success of a player has some bearing on past awards? :smirk:

His best game thus far. Hopefully, many more to come.

Playing really well. Scored two goals thus far. I suspect he'll get a hat-trick.

Yeah, thus far he's done alright at Real considering missing training with Spurs/Real due to the move and then the injury spells. Judging things thus far he could do really well when given a good run of games. Early days thus far, could easily go the other way. Still, thus far you'd have to take him over Mourane Fellatio.

But no. We needed a central midfielder more than Bale.

Bale went on to win the POTY two years later, this time deservedly, and Nani has since failed to recreate his form of 10-11 when he was superior to Bale.

What's your point? :smirk:

Does Bale have a purer shot than Ronaldo? I have to say that if he doesn't, there aren't many players that do. When the man hits the ball it stays hit.

I think he does a lot of knobbish things but I don't want him to flop. He has a shit load of pressure on him and for him to flop would be a bit cruel on him. He knows he isn't worth being the most expensive player in the world.

I think Bale's shooting is better when it comes to high shots or if you want when it's about aiming at the top corners but Ronaldo edges it on the more efficient and lethal "ground" shots. I dunno if what I just typed will make sense.

No defending that shocking dive but given the three penalties given in this game were all awarded following really weak dives (though not quite as bad) so it's not quite as stupid as it looks. One of those games from the ref.

Yeah it makes sense. I know what you mean.

Yeah I get you, I think Ronaldo's better at the bullet shots out of nowhere, he doesn't really need space to smash them in, where as if you give Bale at yard or two he is amazing at putting curlers in.

Bale probably edges it for me though, the sheer number of screamers he got for Spurs last year was phenomenal.

Very true and the fact that he can deliver those bullet shots from either feet makes him a lot more dangerous than Bale. With it's "just" about blocking his left foot.

Bale has more variety with his shooting. He can hit curlers with power or the piledriver knuckle shot.

So far for Ronaldo its only the standard knuckle shot or the "grass-cutter" variant. If we are talking about the finishing shot, then it is definitely Ronaldo, he can hit them with power and accuracy with minimal backlift, and if on target it is absolutely lethal.

Best thing about that goal was Ronaldo's touch.

I think the big difference between Ronaldo and Bale when it comes to finishing is that we see Ronaldo finish like the one above all the time (coming in from the right and finishing with his left). He's got the whole package, right, left, headers. I don't see Bale ever having the ability to hit a shot with his right how Ronaldo can with his left. It's a limitation that Ronaldo has never had.

If you see it on the TV the ball is going in all sorts of directions but the wall was shit and the keeper wasn't in any kind of position to save it at all.

It looks like the goalkeeper made an absolute howler, but the angle doesn't do it much justice - he was several yards off his line, and the ball's movement was unpredictable in that it veered to the right so late. He could have done better, but many would have let that in.

6 in 12 games so far. If he's a 1 in 2 man at the end of the season that'll be a good first season.

Those spanners Schmeichel and Carragher voted it their goal of the night.
