Seen he's played a fair bit of CB lately. I know he used to be a CB in the u14s. Where do we reckon he ends up?

I reckon Mckenna and Ole see him as a sweeper when we attack with the ball, he'll be coming back in as CB as long as fullback push higher. There are not many young players who could play a sweeper role and great passers, for an example, De Jong could play that role and is in very high demand due to low supply.

Anyone watching the youth/reserve level could describe how he play please?

:smirk:His name appearing more and more with the travelling squad, must have been performing so promisingly well this season at that level.

He's a real prospect. Holding midfield player who is very good on the ball. His best attributes are defensive, winning the ball, reading the play and screening the back 4. Last season, the u18s were shambolic defensively whenever he or O'Connor weren't playing.

But, he is also very good on the ball at the base of the midfield. Simple but extremely effective passer. He uses the ball very intelligently. Seems a real leader too and likes the odd tactical foul. Similar position but he is levels above McTominay in terms of talent.

The only downside is that he's a scouser.

He's a great ball winner and a good passer (not "exceptional" like Scholes or Carrick but still good), also very mature on the pitch for his age.

Reportedly in the "traveling" squad for Reading. Thought he looked really good at #6 on the summer tour. In many ways more comfortable there than Pereira.
Guess that he will struggle to win a place on the bench today anyhow. Seems a good prospect though.

We need to be patient - not every player is of the Rashford (pro)Files

Here’s clearly a bit of a Maverick, but I’m sure Ole has his name written down in his Notebook.

Probably would have got on had it not been for the Sanchez injury. Unlucky, but hopefully we get another good draw and there can be another chance for him.

He reminds me a bit of Frenkie de Jong and Jack Wilshere, good technique, dribble through the middle and calm with the ball.

Jimmy Garner. That name has legend written all over it. Just oozes class, like Norman Whiteside, Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton and Nobby Styles.

Felt he may have came on the other day if Sanchez didnt pick up an injury.

That said, instead of bringing on Rashford, Ole could have possibly out Pereira to the left, with Garner in the middle with Fellaini and McTominay.

I can imagine he'll get a chance between now and the end of the season, though.

Perhaps I need to watch him more but that’s the one flaw I’ve noticed, which is that he doesn’t have that dribbling ability/press-resistance. Same issue I have with Ruben Neves. I think it’s a massive string for a top sitting midfielder to have to his bow. Busquets, for example, has that shuffle, swivel etc.

I think you're right. He finds ways around it, but it's something he doesn't have on a consistent basis. Like I've seen him tap the ball past an incoming defender that's at full speed, which counts as dribbling, but it's not something you can rely on.

It's the reason why Gomes is the best at handling the opposition pressing.

That's the Jimmy bit. If he's gonna call himself James he won't get anywhere.

How good is he? Any hope for him ever being good enough for our first team? Never seen him play.

Crystal Palace 1:3 Man Utd
Nice to see him make his debut in the last few minutes. Ole and the coaching staff seem to rate him very highly. The next Michael Carrick repeated again by Ole in the post match presser.

Maybe he will start against Southampton? Fred got his chance, now Garner please

Made me happy seeing Ole, Phelan, and Carrick giving him words of encouragement and looking genuinely happy for the lad

Really nice moment for the lad, the way the 3 dad's were encouraging him before he came on was great to see.

He’s 17. Not sure he’s ready for starts yet.

Let’s just keep feeding him in like this until he’s comfortable.

He might get some minutes but he's only 17, I don't think we'd start him in a PL match, as the season winds down we'll see a bit more of him.

Plenty to look forward to with Garner, he's got a bright future ahead of him.

Needs to bulk up. Lack pace and power. Weak foot is suspicious. Will get found out eventually. Not enough for where we aspire to be, we settle for mediocrity. Championship quality. Shit haircut.

Just wanted to get that in there before someone steals it.

Very high praise from Ole. Good thing he has Carrick teaching him how to be the next Carrick!

I like the guy for some reason. And I loved his ruffled hair just seconds after coming on.

You forgot sideways passing merchant

The positivity around the club is sooo great to see.

Whenever an academy lad gets minutes it’s such a warm feeling.

Love Ole

As for Garner, never seen him before and he didn’t get a kick...but who cares, just enjoy it!

"I believe he's got the chance to have a great future," Solskjaer said. "He knows we believe in him, we've got great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick. I know he's young and I know it's not fair on kids to compare to great players like Michael was, but he's the same mould, he plays simple passes, plays through the lines. Scott McTominay did really well today, some of the passes through the lines into Paul were excellent.

"You're at Man United, so Michael had the pressure of coming in after Roy Keane, that's just the way it is at Man United."

Solskjaer added to MUTV: “We’ve been waiting for that chance. With Nemanja and Ander injured there’ll be more chances for Jimmy, we might even see him against Southampton on Saturday.”

Double pivot with McTominay? Would be overkill at home to So'ton if they were senior players but given that one is still fairly inexperienced and the other is 17, might make sense? And that way we wouldn't have to watch Fred again...
