La Liga 2013-2014

Keeping in mind their recent history at the Mestalla, Barça might still feck this up and let them get back to 3-3. Though Messi looks like scoring each time he takes a shot.

Both goals by Postiga were excellent, nothing Valdés could do.

That Postiga goal was something else.

The defending in this game has been truly shocking, not complaining though, great game.

Well that was interesting.

I was just about to start channel surfing prior to a night's transfer muppeteering. I guess I'll have to watch the second half now.

Guardado way too selfish there, should've gone for the cross/shot.

Ouf, what a miss by Messi, his shot grazes the post, but should've been a goal.

Valdés touches a great shot onto the post, what a save and he again saves them.

Diego Alves has been outstanding as well, he's saved at least 3-4 goals from Messi alone  and that save on Alba just now, wow!

What happened to the extra stoppage time, for the Mascherano and Busquets 'injuries', at the end of the game?

Let's be honest here.. It's not Barcelona that is choosing to play a system designed for Messi to star, it's Messi who is that good to make them the team they are. Take Messi out and replace him with any other player in the world, Barcelona won't be half the team they're now with him..

Damn, missed this game. Whoever saw Postiga scoring two good goals in the same game can count themselves as witnesses of a very rare spectacle.

Main times are Spain

Villarreal R. Madrid Sat-22:00 Spain (9pm UK)
Atlético Almería Sat-16:00
Levante R. Sociedad Sat-18:00
Barcelona Sevilla Sat-20:00 (7pm UK)

Málaga Rayo Sun-19:00
Betis Valencia Sun-21:00
Granada Espanyol Sun-12:00
Getafe Osasuna Sun-17:00

Elche Valladolid Mon-20:00
Athletic Celta Mon-22:00 (9 UK)

With one eye on the CL then.

Marcelo and Coentrao are out injured (as is Varane). Isco is a doubt. Bale's "not ready for 90 minutes" and probably won't be for a while. Ronaldo has tendonitis and Madrid would prefer to rest him. But, Villareal are still an unknown quantity (with 9 points from 3 games) and with La Liga so unforgiving, Ancelotti may want Ronaldo and Isco on the bench at least. They are away to Galatassary on Tuesday.

Alves and Busquets are doubts for Barca. But at home to (two points in three games) Sevilla and with Ajax at home on Wednesday, I don't think they've got too much to worry about.

Real Sociedad are at home to Shakh'r Donetsk (on Tuesday of course)

Atletico are home to Zenit.

Of course the real big match of the weekend is Monday's Athletic Vs Celta :D a chance to think about shopping opportunities.

Rumours that Llorente is unsettled at Juve and might be available in the winter market. Would love Tata to give another shot at a true #9 and he'd fit the bill perfectly, IMO.

Would be a great "plan B". Not expensive etc, but would he be willing to spend most of the time on the bench or else Messi might have to move deeper or wide. Can't see either scenario being accepted tbh.

Hasn't Llorente only just joined after being basically frozen out at Bilbao for wanting to leave?

Yeah, an agreement was made in January for him to join them when his contract expired.

Apparently he's struggling to get to grips, and Conte is reluctant to use him.

Only two league games have been played in their season so things could change between now and January but for the first two games Tevez and Vucinic started and apparently they get along well with each other.

Hasn't Llorente only just joined after being basically frozen out at Bilbao for wanting to leave?

He has and Juve are also seeing another forward come in the winter from Anzhi, Traore. I can't see Llorente staying but we'll see if he is included in their CL squads else a cup tied player has little value, of course

Baffling that Llorente wants to move again. He hardly played last season, and he doesn't plays this as well, the chances for next year WC would be slim.

They're already slim and this is a common consequence of burning your bridges with your Spanish club. I'd say he has little chance of making the squad at this point.

Atlético beat an impressive looking Almería 4-2, Villa got the opener and Diego Costa scored a penalty. Almería's Rodri (former Barça B player) also scored again and is now 2nd top scorer (behind Messi) with 4 goals.

José María Giménez started next to his compatriot Godín in the absence of Miranda and had a solid debut. Also heard that he was brilliant against Colombia in midweek, marking Falcao out of the game (maybe Antohan can shed some light on this?).

Levante-Real Sociedad still scoreless. Barça-Sevilla & Villarreal-Real Madrid coming up.
