League Cup: Manchester Utd vs Chel$ki

We have done something that Fergus hadn't planned on doing though, making you field first teamers in the League Cup when he said he would stick with what got him there. Made him change his plans, so this tells you he feels your season is on the ropes already. Just my opinion of course.

He said we wouldn't use first teamers in 2003 but played them against Liverpool in the final. Obviously Fergie thinks your at least as good as them. Our season was 'on the ropes' then but we still pulled back Arsenal's lead.

Interesting take. I think it's more that he sees Mourinho playing first teamers so he is not going to send his kids to the slaughter house. And it is a pyschological match as well where if United field a side with first team experience that defeat or hold their own against Chelsea, it only builds up confidence for the league fixture as well as potentially deal a psychological blow to Chelsea. Has nothing to do with the season on the ropes as United still are alive in Europe and are the reigning FA Cup holders. And we have witnesses large leads this late in the season go belly up in the matter of 5 or 6 matches. I don't think Chelsea will bottle this lead, but an United victory tomorrow coupled with an United win over Chelsea in the league match could send Chelsea into a tailspin if they drop another match thereafter. It's a long shot, but who'd have though Newcastle would blow up in 96 or United in 98 or Arsenal in 03?

Howard or Carroll

I just hope that Keano sticks something up Robben's arse just after kick-off.

Phil Neville has urged Manchester United to give Chelsea a forceful shove into the unknown on Wednesday.

Both Arse and Man Utd have been circling around Chelsea like vultures, spinning tales of collapse-enducing blips and bad games and the like ...

It hasn't happened yet so maybe instead of waiting around for your opponents to faulter, maybe both teams should just get their buts in gear and play!

Nah, I just want Chelsea to get a few injuries to give United a better chance of catching up with the rentboys

It makes me laugh the way all of you are apparenty losing faith in Man Utd players that you have to wait around for other players to get hurt so you can sneak your way to the lead... that's sooo pathetic!

mind you that your thoughts don't backfire. Man Utd has been plagued with injuries all seasons, I'd hate to see it continue at this rate.

And yes, Chelsea is proud of the boys. They're getting paid for it of course, but the difference between them and Man Utd players is that they're woth what they're paid.
They're not a bunch of expensive players, they're a smooth-running playing machine.
They're a team. And that's what you can't stand ..

Isn't that what we're doing?

that's what you're doing now, after you spent the first half of the season treading on water...

I have lots of faith in the United players - so, you're talking out of your arse. Basically.

If you define the first 10 games or so as the 'first half of the season', then of course you would be correct...

All we can do is keep winning - we can't do anything with Chelsea's games.

Whinner.

Afraid you can't win agains a full-on team? If you're not, stop saying you need chelsea's injures to "give you a better chance" at whatever.

Stop staring at my arse you perv

You're weird...

I'm confident that we can match Chelsea 'full-on' team.

I don't think many other teams can though, and we need other teams to beat the Rentboys in order to give United a chance to catch up.

Hence, I hope Chelsea get some key players injured.

Simple as that.

Tim's up for fight

Barry Waghorn

TIM Howard has come out fighting ahead of tonight's showdown with Chelsea.

The United goalkeeper today warned the league leaders they face a battle at Old Trafford.

And the determined American insists he will not walk away from a fight with Roy Carroll for the Reds' goalkeeping berth.

Howard said: "Manchester United don't lay down for anybody.

"We're hungry for this game and win, lose or draw, they're going to know they were involved in a battle."

Howard, who is set to start tonight after keeping a clean sheet in the first leg at Stamford Bridge, is fighting to reclaim a first-string place after being ousted following a blunder against Lyon last September.

Challenge

But he is undaunted by the challenge and told the official United magazine: "You're not always going to have sunny days. I'm not one to just quit and hang it up after one little incident - that's cowardice.

"You have to ride through the bad times and this isn't necessarily a bad time, just part of a season.

"There is still a long way to go this season and the bigger picture in this team is not about Tim Howard. This team needs to succeed and do good things - and I just hope I can be a part of it."

Howard admitted that his battle with Carroll is being played out in the shadow of Reds legend Peter Schmeichel.

"Until this club is no more, you'll find there will always be a comparision," he said. "He set the bar here for goalkeepers.

"Peter was far and away the best goalkeeper this club has ever had. It's inevitable because of the things he won and because of what he did on the field."

I hope your Bentboys will catch up a mouthfull of dust from chasing Chelsea.

Form : equal.
Tactically equal.
Squads equal.
Managers equal.
Home advantage us.
Away goal advantage them.

The only thing I worry about is that their strikers scores alot more than ours at the moment. Maybe this game will change that.

I think the form and squad aspects go slightly in Chelsea's favour. We are probably the only team to stop them scoring at the Bridge this season, and our defense at home had be solid.

chelsea have a fantastic record at Old Trafford, I think we may edge it but I can equally see this going to penalties. The sides are that close

I think the key lies in our back 4. If they score we're gonna struggle to get another one let alone 2 back from them. They don't concede goals.

Robben and Duff can be taken out the game, we need to look after their CF and Fat Frank. Me thinks a strong showing from the boys, getting in and letting them know we're there. Maybe a more a Smithy and Rooney type of game.

...and Phil of course :D

Do you think Neale Barry has managed to make the trip up from Chelsea?

I know he's an avid supporter, home and away!
