Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

I have mass deleted the last few pages. Stay on topic, even if some City fan is spouting nonsense.

Is there any evidence we've ever been interested in him? :)

Is there ever any evidence for any transfer? Even for the ones that do go through, all we have is media reports since the club rarely ever makes direct comments about particular players. Bit of a pointless question that.

Marca and AS are claiming that he didn't train yesterday and hasn't trained today. I've not seen that in the UK press but they tend to be not quite so quick off the mark on the soap opera stuff.

My guess, if they're right, he's decided to be "injured" and will now try to avoid going with Spurs to the US. I guess watching Berbatov's transfer summer left a few memories.

Seems wierd that we're pissing around with that Brazillian unknown and Van Persie when we could have just broke the bank to get someone we actually need

Okay, he's known now after all the coverage, but you have to admit our alleged huge bids have come out of the blue somewhat

Sure, but then these are usually the sort of players we go for.

We will never go out and buy a Ibrahimovic; damn im more suprised that we are even interested in RVP?.

I doubt it. He did go to the training ground yesterday and had a meeting with Levy or someone then left the ground an hour later. Both Spurs and Modric know that he won't be there next season so compared to the Berbatov situation this'll be a lot smoother. Berbatov was unlikely to be there after the 2008 transfer window but that transfer dragged on until the end of the window so Spurs had little option but to take him with them on tour in case of the slim possibility that a transfer wouldn't be finalised before the window shut and then they would have been stuck with an unfit Berbatov.

I can't see him training with Spurs anymore or him going to the US with the squad so I assume the transfer is near completion (even though some at Real say they won't pay the £35m asking price).

You mean Lucas Moura who's played 15 times for Brazil even though he's only 19?

Modric is not worth £40m. Levy is a good negotiator, and stubborn. But no team will pay close to that, he'll either have another year of an unhappy Modric and no transfer funds, or he'll have to lower his price.

I wouldn't touch Modders at anything over £30m.

He's a 25-30m player. Nothing more.
Yep, you'd be better off splashing 30m+ for the latest Brazilian whizz-kid.

I'm mean talent is talent right? Who cares about the calibre of teams they've played against so far ... they still look mighty fine on YouTube.

And being so young, they can offer years of playing ... at world-class performance levels, obviously.

Get a grip. Modric isn't worth £40m in this or any alternative universe. He's done absolutely nothing to justify such a price tag, especially with the likes of Moutinho going for £25 or thereabouts. At least Lucas has the upside of being only 19 and with an entire career ahead of him.

Lucas carries a lot of risk, and if we pay £30M, we're probably overpaying. But £40M is a lot for Modric. If Levy gets that I take off my hat to him, and I want him to manage my investments.

He is off to Madrid then, quick! To the Van Persie thread!!!

 He refused to get on the plane with his team. I hope we don't pay too much for him considering the deal gave them on Van Der Vaart.

He probably senses the dark days ahead under AVB's kindergarden management style.

I've still not seen it confirmed in the UK press that he didn't travel but AS have printed an airport "interview" with AVB

Basically agreeing that something is wrong, and that Modric's misconduct has made it worse. Whether that's just Modric not showing up for Friday training or that he took the next step and finally failed to get on the plane isn't clear.

So, what do you reckon Levy will do now? We know he made United wait and tried to slap "tapping up" charges on us over Berbatov. What'll he do with this - given there may be an actual breach of contract involved? Double the asking price to Madrid? Cut the asking price to United? Hmmm.

His behavior is sickening to be honest. This is not how to treat a club that does done nothing but help your career.
