Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

No, I offered you a bet. I want you to have the balls to back up what you said.
WTF?!

I'm betting that Modric will still be playing for Spurs next season regardless of how much is bid for him. What more do you want?

For you to accept the bet I offered you.

Or, alternatively, you could just admit that you're completely full of shit. Trust me, you won't be surprising many of us.

Every player has a price and Spurs have a history of letting their best players leave when offered huge sums of cash.

Levy would snap someone's hand off if they offered £40 million.

In my opinion, Modric isn't close to a £40 million player either - he's very good but not worth that kind of money.

OK, I've offered you a bet that Modric will still be a Spurs player next season regardless of the amount bid for him.

So tell me, sunshine, exactly what bet you'd like and what stake you are offering ... because I don't understand what your problem is.

From what I understand Lance is betting that Modric will be sold this summer for less than £50 million, as per what you said on the previous page.

I don't care about the fee amount - I'm betting that Modric will not be sold this summer full stop, whether for £1 or £100m.

How does that not meet Lance's "conditions"?

Not to defend Glaston or anything, but he's agreeing to this, and more. It's not that hard to grasp.

Because I haven't said that he WILL be sold. What I have said is, if he is sold, it won't be for anything close to £50 million. How many fecking times must I repeat myself?

Do you accept?

Excuse me? IF he's sold this summer it won't be for "anything close to £50 million"?

The whole fecking point of of my oft-repeated proposed bet is that he WON'T be sold - no 'ifs involved, no fee conditions involved ... yet you accuse me of lacking commitment to my view?

Your proposed bet is pretty much purpose-designed to result in a void result. But, if you lack the confidence to accept my proposed bet, then OK ....

Let's bet on your terms, namely that: IF he's sold this summer it won't be for "anything close to £50 million" - let's say £45m. Or is that not "close enough" for you?

If it is "close enough" for you, what's your proposed stake?

PS. Clearly I am bending over backwards in an effort to entertain your bet, so don't be shy.

Now now children. Play nice. Toys aren't for throwing.
Yes, you are right.

It's petty of me in this instance to offer bets in an effort to prove a point. Of course I'm happy to honour the single £20 bet accepted thus far. But beyond this it creates a silly and potentially nasty element to the thread ... and I apologise for my part in creating this.

Time will tell if if my views on Modric will prove right or wrong ... and betting on it adds little to credibility either way.

I must be the only one who doesn't want Modric, not for 25m that is. Almost no CL experience, his scoring and assist records are below par for an attacking midfielder. Our midfield lacks goals, so we could use a creative and goal scoring midfielder.

Just have a feeling he will crumble playing for a big club like United.

I don't want Modric, not for what he's going to be near 35m if he's sold and he's nowhere near that kind of fee. But it's getting to a point that i actually want to see Modric end up at United for that because of this Glastonspaz :boring:

I've got a feeling that we coils get modric and Sanchez with the young deal possibly falling through

If we got Sanchez I can see a striker/winger leaving depending on where we see him fitting in

I don't blame him, we ourselves (most of us) thought the same when Ronaldo was stay-leave. Most people here were even worse.

Didn't realise Modric signed a 6-year contract last season. It'd take a huge bid to lure him away unless Modric started to kick up a fuss, but I can't see him doing that this summer.

Get both in.

As muppet-tastic as that sounds, I don't think thats entirely impossible. SAF has always been an admirer of Sanchez and may feel he's too special to let go of, and if does end up signing him he's not just going to ignore our midfield deficiency, so may go for Modric also.

Would be a hell of statement of intent if we end up signing both, even if its mostly unlikely.

EXCLUSIVE: Modric fight! City plan £30m raid to see off Chelsea in race for Spurs ace

Manchester City are preparing to table a bid for Tottenham’s Luka Modric after Harry Redknapp branded Chelsea’s £22million offer 'ridiculous'.

Spurs manager Redknapp echoed his chairman Daniel Levy by insisting his much-admired Croatia midfielder is not for sale. But Sportsmail understands that high-level discussions have taken place between City and Tottenham, and a bid of nearer £30m is expected to arrive from Eastlands.

That may still not be enough, as a counter bid from Chelsea and an offer from Manchester United are expected to follow. It could take nearer £35m to prise the 25-year-old from north London.

Sources close to Modric believe City, with their vast wealth, will do everything in their power to prevent him joining one of their Barclays Premier League rivals.

But Redknapp said: ‘Luka is not for sale. If there has been a bid of £22m that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20m who are not fit to lace Luka’s boots.’

With the inexperienced Jordan Henderson moving from Sunderland to Liverpool for £16m last week, Redknapp appears to have a point. Modric put in a series of stunning displays last year in his best season at the club and Redknapp made it clear that he thinks Chelsea have seriously undervalued the player.

Despite scoring just four goals last season, Modric’s tireless running and brilliant vision played a big part in helping Spurs reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. His efforts, and those of Gareth Bale, meant reports linking the pair with moves to some of the Continent’s biggest clubs was inevitable.

Redknapp’s failure to guide Tottenham back into the Champions League added further fuel to those rumours, but the 64-year-old and Tottenham chairman Levy have remained steadfast in their promise to keep the club’s best players.

Levy assured Spurs fans on the final day of last season that the club were not under pressure to sell despite the drop in revenue that will come next year after their failure to make it into the top four.

Earlier this month, Modric told a Croatian newspaper he was happy at White Hart Lane, but would be open to a move if the club altered their stance and chose to sell him.

‘If an offer comes which is good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is possible,’ said Modric, who attempted to quash rumours linking him with Manchester United by signing a new contract last year.

Modric would never pick City over us if it came down to that, no doubt.

Fergie called him the best footballer in England.

I posted this in the Sanchez thread but I'm not sure Modric is worth the fees being quoted. I think he's a class player and I've always been an admirer of his talents. When I first saw him for Croatia I thought he was going to be a world beater. Personally I think while he's quite clearly a quality player I have doubts over his ability to be ruthless and take control of games, as well as how much end product his game has. He has undeniable quality on the ball. But I'm not sure he has the fight and drive of a 35 million pound player and I think he doesn't do himself justice in his end product.

He's not even that good...

I think he'll leave this season to sign for Chelsea. Why would he stay if he has ambition?

Thats what I thought whenever I have seen him play - hence dont understand the fuss and I doubt anyone would pay 40m for him
