Seems like you need to watch some Spurs matches

You're perhaps forgetting that Modric's contract runs until 2016 and that he signed a new, 6 year contract only last summer.
This alone makes his situation very different from that of Berbatov's at the time.
It's not illegal and he did sign a 6 year contractThat's odd considering it's illegal. You can sign for a maximum of 5 years.
That's obviously not true. That means nothing.

The minimum length of a contract shall be from its effective date until
the end of the season, while the maximum length of a contract shall
be fi ve years
That's obviously not true.
Having 5 year's left (from this summer) to run on a contract means that a club is under no extra financial pressure to sell, whereas if there is just 1 or 2 years left a club will know that if they resist selling then they stand to lose the player later for much less money ... or even nothing if the contract expires.
A long contract also gives a club more moral leverage over a player. And it also gives them more disciplinary leverage if push comes to shove and a club wishes to play hardball.
The tired old notion that player contracts are not worth the paper they are written on is - at least partially - just so much hokum.
8 assists 2 goals last season
You can catch up here
He created more goals for Valencia than any of his team mates, including Silva. Not really something you can say about "destroyers" and something you cannot say about Modric. VDV is the player who creates for Spurs and he got 7 assists in la liga last season.
Modric is better than VDV. The latter has got the stats but Modric runs the show. I bet they value the former as much more important to the team than VDV.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has claimed no club could bid enough money to convince him to part with Luka Modric.
Croatia midfielder Modric has been in scintillating form for Spurs this season, playing a key role in their run to the Champions League quarter-finals on their debut in the competition.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a host of rival clubs, including Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan.
But speaking to Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, Redknapp said: "I wouldn't want to sell him for £100million, not even for a billion.
"He's the hub of the team."
Modric signed a new six-year contract contract with Tottenham last summer and his agent Mario Mamic dismissed speculation about a move away.
"These are just rumours," he told Calcio Mercato.
"Luka has a contract until 2016 and Tottenham have no plans to sell him.
"He has an excellent relationship with the coach, Redknapp, and only signed a contract extension with Spurs last summer."
It was never going to happen anyway. I dont know why people thought it would.
You have no place in this forum, Walker. Beat it.
Well if you referring to last season... I did watch a few matches where he probably did everything wanted from a MF.
Anyhow, if your box-to-box ala Roy Keane style, the assists should be up there, he has failed to dominate this season though....
And I was mostly referring to this season's form.
So no debate if u were going to refer to last season.
The "totalen" are totally wrong.Stats van der Vaart

In a two man midfield the 'more attacking' of the pair still doesn't have to directly score or assist. Obviously it's great if he does, but the far more important thing for them to do is to dominate the midfield, set the tempo of the match and start attacking moves (where invariably someone else gets the assist).Where VDV will be the one with cutting edge
Nobody is denying that Modric is very good with his general play and moving the ball around. But he doesnt do enough defensively to be the holding player of a pair, and he doesnt do much to affect the scoreline which leaves him short as the attacker of the pair.
Harry said he wouldn't sell Modric for one billion. No, but your chairman would.
Next year we'll need to buy at least a keeper and a midfielder. Considering that the former will cost us around 10-20m then I doubt that we'll have the necessary transfer kitty to spend another 30-40m on Modric. Henderson or Charlie Adams are more realistic targets.
Modric has been much better than VdV who, goals apart, has been mediocre in the league (see Bale).
Giggs has just 8 more goals in 14 more seasons, I guess that shows VDV's better than him too.
I think we will sign a goalkeeper for around £10m and maybe Ashley Young as he will be available at low fee due to his contract situation. Then maybe Henderson or Adam if we can get them for less than £15m. We will partly cover that with departure of a few players.
Modric has certainly outshone VDV this season, and by quite some distance too.
VDV wouldn't fit us at all so I don't really understand why people want us to sign him whereas Modric would be pretty much a near perfect. He would be as close as you could get to a risk free signing, he's shown he can play in a 2 man midfield at the top level, he's proven in the Premier League and he plays in a team which operate in a similar way to ours (two fast wingers, counter-attacks).
He'll cost a tonne though, wouldn't surprise me if it was over £35m.
