Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Nah upwards of 20m and I'm all for it, if Saturday was good for one thing it brutally exposed our failings in the middle of the park in a way a win would have glossed over.

Sounds slyly like an obsession but we should be signing players that will put us in better stead to beat Barca as they are now the standard.

I'm all for Modric, think he is an outstanding player seen him live vs Chelsea and he looked so neat and composed, put himself about just looked good in general.

It'll be more than 30m for Modric.

Modric will not go anywhere unless there's a juicy bid (35m+) incoming. He can do a Berba but unlike Berba, he has plenty of time left on his contract i.e the ball is in Levy's court.

It's the usual carousel here. Fergie mentioned Modric, our midfield failed us last Saturday, and summer is here. The math, you do it.

Well, I did the math. I don't see a reason why we should hold back from testing Spurs resilience with a juicy bid.

Well I don't rate Modric as one of the top in the world but he is a very good midfielder.

Not my first choice but wont mind him than not signing anyone.Certainly an improvement to our midfield.Plus he already is settled in the premiership.

And for 20 mil?

He would only cost £20 million if Berba is included in the deal. £30-£35 million is my estimate. The market is crazy these days.

Unfortunately that's unlikely. I don't think Fergie would waste a second hesitating at these kind of price for Modric.

Modric is a fantastic player, he really is. He can play in the middle and on the wing.

If we land him it will strengthen United no end.

The Mirror (I know) reporting that Spurs are willing to listen to offers at arouns £25mil. That's 2 stories on consecutive days with similarly low fees.

A bit odd that. I see no reason why they'd accept offers in that region unless he's indicated he wants out....

He is a very good player. Would love to have him here next to Carrick. He has a similar problem too Anderson though. Gets into good goal scoring positions but mucks it up a lot of the time.

Or possibly certain folks were talking out of their arses when they said Modric was with £50M?

Doesn't make sense > you can be sure it isn't true.

Berbatov was absolutely desperate to leave Spurs and they managed to get 32m for him. Now, after A. Caroll was sold for 35m, you can be sure that Modric, who is younger than Berbatov, cannot be sold only for 25m, unless they are some unknown issues with his health. Bullshit story.

I agree that he won't go for £50mil but £20-25mil seems very low. I expect more like £30.

Modric IMO is the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes..

We simply must get him.. SAF has said time and time again that there has been money kept aside to replace the likes of VDS, Scholes, Giggs etc..

He isn't because he isn't as good at scoring goals but, still he's the closest thing to Scholes you can find in the Prem.

Could simply be the fact that having failed to qualify for the CL this year they need to generate some money.

Harry will want to spend and I would reckon his hands might be tied unless they can bring some money in.

Fact is Modric is a top player and should be playing in the CL. Seems like a decent bloke and isn't agitating for a move but surely he's ambitious and wants to play at the top level? Perhaps they have some kind of agreement whereby he can go if they don't qualify for the CL.

exactly...

i know this will probably never happen, but i want to see sneijder and modric in our team next season....

Scholes has never been that prolific a goalscorer in the last couple of seasons anyway. Besides Modric has time on his hands, there's no reason why he couldn't develop a feel for scoring especially around the players he'll be around.

Why is it that people do not understand that Manchester United is primarily a 442 team?

Assuming both were available, why would anyone want Modric over Sneijder?

Because Modric is tried and tested in the Premier League (which is a massive plus for any potential new signing) and used to playing in Fergie's preferred formation.

Given the choice, I'd prefer Modric.

Im not convinced by Modric yet, or at least not convinced that he's THAT much better than what we have

We can't mess about all summer waiting for Levy to screw every last penny out of us though can we?

The only other top class mid-fielders around atm and at their peak are..

Iniesta
Xavi
Fabregas
Alonso
Sniejder

We have no chance to get any of them and Modric is the closest thing to a World Class CM, so it would be a great signing if we pull it off and he would improve us in midfield.

I get that, but I would have thought that the chances of Sneijder failing in the Premier League would be small.

In addition, surely he has the ability to play in a 4-4-2?

Modric would cost a fortune, IF Spurs would sell at all. Over 35m pounds. He is younger than Berbatov and not that desperate to leave Spurs.

Daniel Levy, before their final game of the season vs Brum, said:

“Having quality players means they automatically attract attention from other clubs. I can assure you that we have no reason to sell, and every intention of retaining, our key players. We shall simply not entertain any approaches for these players.”

As I've said already in this thread, this summer Spurs will be posting annual income results that will be something like 50% higher than their previous best.

This alone will provide plenty of spending cash (should Spurs choose to splash out), quite apart from the 40m+ that could - and probably will - be raised by selling off some of our fringe players/players who've been out on loan.

Spurs have zero need to raise cash by selling Modric.

Do you think Modric will be a Spurs player on the 1st of September 2011? Honest question.. I am not asking you what you want or believe.. What do you think will happen?
