Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

These "best bits" videos are always a bit misleading, but there is no doubt he is decent player. Is he worth more than 30million, not at all.

I think it is just a case that I hate when we buy from Spurs, it is normally daylight robbery and I couldn't bear Levy running around again threatening to report us for an illegal approach.

Remember all that shit with Berbs? The money soon shut the twat right up.

Annoying little feck!!

Let's be honest though, you're never getting back in the top four, so it's either sell him now, or in 12 months time at a cut price.
Many people said Spurs would never finish top 4 in 2009-2010. Many people said Spurs would never make it out of the CL group stages.

Many people say many things ... it doesn't make them any more knowledgeable than the average Joe.

The top 4 next season could easily end up being a wide open competition between at least 6 teams, with no team guaranteed to finish top 4. It remains to be seen.

And/or Modric could have an outstanding season that boosts his value even higher .... this likewise remains to be seen. So if I were you I'd put your crystal ball away and stick to trying your luck with lotto cards.

He is right though! Top 4 and Champions League football is probably a dream too far for the foreseeable future for the mighty Spurs, no matter how you dress up the abilities of one player.

Modric is on the move and I don't blame him.

Surely Glaston you see the dilemma for Spurs?

Keeping him for another season could mean you end up receiving less for him and falling further behind in the race for fourth.

You have some serious deficiencies in your squad to address and even clearing the deadwood won't solve all your problems.

It wasn´t quality but consistency that was missing at Tottenham this year IMO. As continuity improves consistency, Spurs should therefor avoid selling their star players if they want further progress.

Since I'm more concerned with Manchester United; I would however like to see Modric here with us if the price is right, and even a Spurs fan must admit that Modric deserves to play in the CL?

If we sign Modric for anything above £20m I will be very very disapointed.

Sahin who is perhaps the best player in Germany at 22 went to Real for about £9m. If we were after a quality player we could have made more of an effort but it seems SAF likes to plunder tottenham.

I don't ever want us to sign another tottenham player as we get roasted on the price and the two we have signed though have been good have not hit the hight notes often enough and I dont see any different with Modric.

People keep bringing up Sahin, Ozil and Kehdira but they were all players who ran down their contracts and went for less than a fair market valuation. Modric is worth north of £30M.

But if we were after these players even Sneijder we could have made a more concerted effort yet we want to splash out £30m on Modric.

feck that right now.

I would rather have Nasri.

There is no freaking way we will attempt to sign Modric with that Levy at other end.

SAF is a stubborn so and so and when he gets his head around something he doesn't give up look at his chase of Berba.

Levys only leverage is SAF stubborness and refusal anyone else would probably walk away but not SAF.

Berba's transfer saga is the reason we will look to avoid a similar situation. 30 will be the absolute minimum Spurs would want since there is no reason for selling him.

How do you know we didn't made a concerted effort?
Nearly all of those players(Khedira, Ozil and Sahin) had made up their minds to join Madrid, nothing we could do about it.

Carrick's been worth every penny.

I am sure if we wanted Sahin we could have done more - from what I read we did very little. Yet he is the type of player that could prove a good addition to the squad in light of Scholes retirement.

With all this talk of value - which is fair we then go up and spend £30m plus on Modric makes it all a mockery.

How much would you want to pay for Modric.

Modric is a fine player but I'm not sure he's exactly the kind of player we need. Seems to freeze a little in the final third and he's a little brittle. Don't get me wrong, he's a quality player and I've always been an admirer. But for the sums that are being talked about he needs to be a perfect fit.

Not more than £35m. I think he is worth that money although dealing with Levy is quite a big headache though.

We need someone at the heart of the side, keeping things ticking over whilst being able to open things up with their creativity. Modric would seem to fit the bill. Mates of mine who are Spurs fans are terrified of losing him (moreso than Bale or van der Vaart), as he provides them with exactly those attributes. I don't think they care about his size.

Leve is a bit of a media whore. I mean how many chairmen get their name in the papers so often? He will huff and puff a bit first but eventually he will cave in when it comes to player sales.

The fact we have to deal with Levy would make this a no go for me - plain and simple.

Modric would be a good addittion to the squad but at the prices quoted - no.

£35m is a lot of money - money I think we could spend elsewhere - Schweinsteiger if he could be tempted.

Why do people keep mentioning Schweinsteiger? He signed a new contract in January, he's Bayern through and through - we have as much chance of signing as of signing Iniesta.

Hindsight is a bitch...

only madrid seems to bother using buyout clauses, but they pay sill wages and make the player pressure the club to get them at those prices,
we, well just get desperate and put all our eggs in basket and then levy just rips us off.

if we're gonna spend 55m might aswell go for iniesta, worth a try.

It's not hindsight as much as our failure to pursue proper talent recently. Why spend that much on players like obertan and bebe, player's you're not sure about when we could easily have put that kind of money to proven young talent going for cheap (sahin, ozil etc)

They went to Real Madrid, it's not like Liverpool snuck in under the radar and caught us napping. They're a top side whose allure convinces players to run down their contracts to cheapen their selling price.

I agree to some extent, we very rarely seem to go for recognized talent recently which is a shame because we've seen some truly good players go for low fees. I particularly regret that we haven't capitalised on Real's wholesale in the past couple of seasons - van der Vaart, Sneijder and Robben would have all been good buys for us. Each time a good and proven midfielder goes for a low fee we seem to be uninterested, either Ferguson thinks our midfield is good enough or has recognised other players.

We can't sign every talented players out there. You're not stupid are you?

We wanted Ozil but he went to Bremen first. and then Real showed their interest and we never stood a chance.

VDV and Sneijder play in the hole where we have no space for them in our regular line up.
Robben.. we went with Valencia and besides we still have Nani. Robben injury record didn't do him and favours as well.

Or keeping him for another season could mean Spurs finish in the top 4, with Modric having his best season ever, boosting his value even higher and still with 4 years left on his contract even after next season has ended. Nothing is written in stone.

Spurs will have plenty to spend this summer without needing to sell Modric (or Bale).

Kyle Walker has impressed at RB whilst on loan at Villa - he's now back and is sure to be competing hard with Corluka for the RB slot at Spurs next season. Young Danny Rose impressed me hugely at LB in the tail-end of last season - and looks set to provide stiff competition for Ekotto this coming season. And if we sign a quality striker (or two), maybe bring in the likes of Parker to compete (or rotate) with the impressive Sandro .... then Spurs won't be far away from being right up there in the mix.

All in all, I don't think - bar our current mix of strikers - that our "squad deficiencies" are all that big, especially considering the good young players - Walker, Rose and especially Sandro - who may well be about to break through this coming year.
