Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Don't know about tennis balls but his ability with golf balls is well-known.

Miami Heat would have won the NBA championships if we had managed to sign Joe Cole.

Honestly, I'd be disappointed if Chelsea got Modric over us, or even if they get him full stop. He's a really good midfielder and would improve them (and us) drastically, and I dont really know too many players that seem that perfect for what we need right now (age wise and in terms of experience of playing in both England and the Champions League) in the world.

Modric will have a lot of suitors. Including Arsenal if Nasri left.

I did warn Galdstone of Modric signing for Arsenal.

I wonder if Chelsea bidding for Modric, albeit failing, will ignite our interest in him. We know that Fergie is a big admirer of him and we need a player like him so we must have some eye on him. £22m from Chelsea was always going to be rejected but I think it would take at least another £10m before getting considered.

22 million is a bit of a piss take offer in fairness, when the likes of Henderson are going at 20's its a damn insult.
They can double it if they like, but it won't make any difference to the outcome.

IF Chelsea want him they will get him in the end.
It's not a question of IF. They've lodged a formal bid so clearly they want him.

But what they want and what they end up getting are two different things ... and never the twain shall meet ;)

I was going to suggest the loser buys the winner a shirt of Modric's club for next season with Modric printed on the back, but a) that'd be fairly costly, b) I don't want a Chelsea shirt if he goes there and c) I don't wear the modern United shirts.

Perhaps 20 pounds instead?

OK, £20 it is.

I remember the Liverpool fans were just as cocky in January when the Torres bids started. In the end Chelsea are a bigger club that can offer Modric more money and the chance to win things, and as a rule Abramovich gets what he wants.

Apparently Chelsea haven't made a bid, that story was leaked to the press by Spurs to try and start a bidding war.

That's according to this guy on twitter anyway, he's one of the more reliable people on there

Got this PM.

That doesn't count. You can keep it in moth balls for 20 years and then it'll be retro.

Chelsea have £22m bid turned down.

Why on earth would they bid £22m for a player Spurs value at around £40m? It's a waste of time.

With a bid so low, that lowers the anti, why don't we go in at £24M? Spurs love doing business with us anyway.

If we end up getting him for, say, £30M that's still much less than the £35M and £40M that was being banded about a few weeks ago...

You can be absolutely sure that Chelsea will pay 35m if that is what's required.

Do Chelsea really need another CM though? Doesn't make sense to me.

Well Lampard is 33 next week and wont go on forever. Essien is not the player he was.

Their whole squad is aging though. They need wingers more than midfielders, and some new defenders assuming Alex goes.

Very surprised they're not trying to get Sanchez too actually.

Why are Chelsea, Who are manager-less and have a wealth of midfield talent, bidding for Modric? It makes no sense.. They have Lampard, Essien, Ramires, Mikel and to a certain extent Benayoun as well..

If we are interested and can cough up the money.. Which I am sure we will (If we are that interested) Than I cannot possibly see him choose Chelsea over us..

Sure - in relation to this summer's transfer window.

What stake would you like to suggest?

Aren't you gunna lay any conditions down? Or is the bet purely if ge stays or goes? I only say it because Glaston's said a number of times that he'll stay unless "silly money" is offered.

Unless you are Mr Levy I wouldn't be that bold, especially when big offers came in for Berbatov, Carrick and Keane.

If I were you I'd take £30 million if such an offer came in, your transfer budget isn't going to stretch awfully far if you don'r raise funds.

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric would command a transfer fee of more than £22m, according to his agent.

Chelsea have reportedly bid that figure for the 25-year-old Croat and had it rejected by their London rivals.

"Luka is happy at Spurs but if an offer came in that was acceptable to the club and player, we would be willing to discuss it," said agent Nikky Vukan.

"In my opinion, £22m is a valuation that is too low for the player."

Here we go..

I don't think Fergie will go for him. To compete with Chelsea on wages would end up being too expensive. At United we have a strict wage structure. No way can we compete with Chelsea.

We really don't. We have a history of paying high wages if we need to.
