I think Glaston is better than the majority of posters on here.
What does White Hart Lane have to do with it? It's not the nicest ground in the world, but who cares?
Also, every trophy is significant. This is arrogance from spoilt United fans, sadly. I'd love a Carling Cup right now.

Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day.
I have said Modric is a class act ever since I first saw him play for Croatia, so fecking what? It was obvious that he's a good player, just as Iniesta and Xavi are good midfielders!
There isnt any point getting in to an auction scenario with Chelsea though, because they will pay more than we can offer to Spurs, and Spurs will reject all offers until the price is out of our reach anyway. Maybe what the plan is therefore is to wait until Chelsea have a bid accepted, then match it. I'd assume Spurs would then accept our offer as well, and it'd be down to the player to decide where he wanted to go.If we're interested in Modric, this might be the best chance of getting him whilst Chelsea have no manager. I reckon he will be sold once somebody bids about £35 million, just hope he ends up at OT.
Wishful thinking I'm afraid.
It was widely reported that Spurs bid much more than this for at least one single player back in January. Of course the reports may not have been true - I don't know, but neither can you know that they weren't true.
More importantly, and as I've said in this thread already, Spurs will shortly be posting record annual income results. At a rough guess I'd say these will show an increase of between 40 and 50m. Then we have a whole raft of fringe players to sell for anything up to 35 - 40m combined total - O'Hara (for just one example) has gone to Wolves for around 5m and this will be announced shortly.
All in all I've no doubt that, should Levy choose to sanction it, Spurs could easily afford to spend 30m+ on a single player this summer.
More importantly still, Spurs don't necessarily need to spend 22m (or whatever) on a single player in order to make quality signings that, not too long thereafter, become coveted by sundry other clubs.
The signing of Modric for 16.5m proves this. As does Bale for 9m and VdV for 9m. And it's quite likely IMO that Sandro for 8m and Walker for 5m will soon provide further evidence in the same vein.
The fact is that Spurs - despite the odd failed gamble (like all clubs) - generally have an excellent track record for making very good signings at bargain prices. Lennon for 1m, Huddlestone for 2.5m, Dawson for 3.5 (etc etc) weren't exactly bad deals either.
So I'm content for you to carry on boasting about Chelski's sugar-daddy spending power and to continue to spunk 31m (the price 5 years ago) on the likes of Shevchenko.
Such spending power won't get you Modric. So I'd try lowering your sights a notch or three: as I said earlier, Taarabt is eager to join. Or failing that, get a better scouting system/transfer negotiating team ... it might just save you a few tens of millions and thus fund an extra mega-yacht to add to the fleet of Chelski's head honcho.
Redknapp, who recently described the 25-year-old as "irreplaceable", told the BBC: "Luka is not for sale. If there has been a bid of £22m that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20m who are not fit to lace Luka's boots."

Modric will go for a little more than he's worth (£37m)

Manchester United set to enter bidding war for Tottenham's Luka Modric
Luka Modric would be open to joining Manchester United if Sir Alex Ferguson starts a bidding war with Chelsea by following the west London club in making an official offer for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Ignore Beckham if it suits you (I suppose Beckham was desperate to stay and not join Real Madrid, a bigger club). But the fact remains that the Ronaldo sale alone establishes Man. Utd as an "historically selling club" (as indeed almost all clubs can be so categorised) .... a sale that in fact far exceeds in money terms any players that Spurs have sold to Man. Utd.What a fantastic fail that. Beckham was sold because Fergie wanted him gone. How on earth did you manage to get that wrong? Of players (in recent time) sold Ronaldo was the only important player we didn't actually want to sell iirc. But come on, give me your list.

So you might consider coming off your (not so high) high horse.

... Ferguson only sells when a player is no longer a part of his plans....
