Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Is Modric the best in his current position ? I've watched Spuds countless of times, I love the way he controls MF, his pace, his dribbling, his work rate and how he makes things tick are all good attributes... But really I wouldn't label him one of the best MF's in the world, its more so the hype.

Now for him to want to stay to London means we should be assessing other prospects, I don't understand why we're groaning on missing a signing, its not like we're missing out on the new Cantona or anything.

Again look at who are the best midfielders in the world, they're not available so you then have to look at who is and you yourself have named all of Modric's qualities all of which are painfully missing from out midfield at this moment in time

That's why Modric is one signing we cannot afford to miss out on, not unless there's someone else out there that's equally as good that we've done unbelievably well not to be linked to in the press and are signing very quietly

Only time will tell I guess

I await for SAF to pull another Hernandez out of the bag and say feck all you'se idiots!!!

Hernandez is more the exception than the rule.

It has always been my opinion that a deep-lying playmaker rather than a player that will directly create and score goals would be most beneficial to this current United team. This is partly because I don't believe that a player that consistently scores and creates goals from that position actually exists, but also because the problem with United's performances over the last few years -- and particularly the away form last season -- has been a failure to control games with quality possession. It has consequences both in defence and attack far beyond an ability to control possession, however.

I've said this on a few occasions, we need someone who can play like Pirlo or the latter day Scholes, which is why I was so keen on us getting Sahin and why I favour Banega over Modric and Sneijder. That's not say we couldn't add another #10 kind of player, but when talking CM's we need an actual CM.

"If this is true----- and I hope it isn't, the one silver lining is that he won't go to Man Utd, and that will continue their decline which began with their shameful performance againct Barcelona."

When are United not in decline?:D

Anyone else think he seems so unchelsealike?

Not really, it's obvious that a lot of Chelsea's players aren't bought by the manager in charge so if they're RA's signings then he's going to go with whoever has taken his eye or whoever is being hyped up

Alternatively I've read that Hiddink could have a lot of say in who Chelsea sign and Modric does seem like a Hiddink type of player

So now it's better that they sell them to their soul-less neighbours? wtf, abu at it's best.

Being beaten by Barca now means a club is in decline... feck me, that means every other club in World Football then.

eh?

That wasn't my point at all.

Chelsea are a team of big, athletic feckers, Terry, Alex, Ivanovic, Essien, Lampard, Mikel, Malouda, Bosingwa, Drogba....

Little luka might get bullied.

He's 'unchelsealike' because he's exactly the sort of player they've needed but have gone with buying decent players who have outstanding physical qualities instead.

Maybe they're changing their philosophy, Ramires & Benayoun hardly fit in with them do they

but this guy can predict the future! wow.

feck me you'd argue with a Cornflake box tonight wouldn't you.

If that Cornflake box was saying it wasn't fussed about us losing out on Modric then yes. Yes I would.

I'd beat the flakes out of that piss taking box!!!

It's no good, we'll just have to move Manchester to London...or possibly Barcelona...or maybe Milan. These players wanting glamorous locales, and moaning about Manc weather don't know they're born - try living in Wales! It even rains sideways here!

Can someone bring back Scholesy, he's been waiting for this thread all his life and now he's missing it :(

That means you don't watch enough of the other leagues, Sahin who was probably Bundes Liga's best player went for only 8m. Had all the qualities too and would be better suited to us as he has better passing and set piece abilities... Watch him and Alonso dominate MF next season.

Banega has all the qualities mentioned too and even has a better shot on him.

Its not the end of the world you see, 40m could get you a cesc and I'd rather go for the Cesc himself.

So its time for you to chill, we're missing out on a good player, but its not the end of the world and even if we don't sign a player next season, Giggsy/Anderson if both stay fit would provide the cover and probably the creativity we need.

I'd even go as far as to say we might consider a future Carrick a replacement for Carrick, theres always room for a new engine and as good as Carrick is with his intercepts, if we got a more all rounded player than Carrick to play that role, it might be even better for us.

The role Keano left is still void, we should always be on a look out for these types of players.

I feel for you, I really do. I've had that sinking feeling with other players and it's gut-wrenching.

I would've loved Modric too but glady I have a couple of targets that I place above him. I'll be as mad as you if we end up with none of them.

All United bias aside, I just can't understand 'artistic' players like Modric choosing Chelsea, a team so lacking in soul and artistry. I'm not even being unkind or bitchy here; they might as well be Lego F.C.

Glaston, the new white hart lane, the Olympic Stadium and now this? Christ

Spill then who are your priority targets? Try and make me feel better about this life shattering evening :(

If Essien returns to being the powerhouse he was prior to last season then Essien and Modric could be a scarily good midfield.
