Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

But just watch as Fat Frank ruins the recipe with shit mediocrity.

Pah, I never wanted the girly-haired twit anyway!
*lies*

Let's hope he's as successful as Torres.

Carrick was not as key for Spurs as Modric is and nor was he as good a player.

As for Berbatov, he didn't have 5 years left on his contract (Modric does) and nor was he 25 years old. Plus he was desperate to leave and cut up rough about it. Modric isn't and won't.
(Will he be a Spurs player come September 1st)
Yes.

Everything points to this (his long contract, Levy's public statement, the very healthy state of the club's finances and the fact that Modric is the heartbeat of the current team) and nothing points the other way except the usual media guff from journos desperate to find something to write about.
I'm willing to bet that Modric will still be at Spurs this coming season.

I'm sure your newbie will be keen to put money where his/her mouth is ....

EVERYBODY NOW.

Modric said "Chelsea are the only one who sent an offer so they are at the moment my first choice".

That doesn't really sound like desperation to join Chelsea & no other club to me.

Maybe they're changing their philosophy, Ramires & Benayoun hardly fit in with them do they

Ramires was good for them. I actually forgot they had Ramires when I said about Essien because on current form it would be Modric and Ramires getting in.

I am guessing they are trying to build a team around Torres like Liverpool from 07-09. This probably means Lampard/new attackingmid filling the role that Gerrard played in 08/09 and feeding Torres and Modric filling the role of Alonso as the passer.

What they do need is new wingers so lets see who they buy.

As it stands:

----Modric---Ramires/Essien

--------Lampard/Benayoun/new playmaker

---------Torres

isn't too bad but is relying on Essien, Lampard and Torres rediscovering their old form.

'I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.’

This is they part from the interview, I wonder if there is something in writing.

It seems Chelsea put in a bid for him before the start of last season, but for whatever reason, Modric didn't think it was the right time to move. Spurs offered him a new long term contract which he signed, but he only signed with the promise by Spurs, if Chelsea came in for him again, & he felt the time was right, he could leave. Spurs accepted this, as the long term contract would enable them to get more money for him if he had a great season. Seems Modric has called on that agreement and wants to transfer to Chelsea.

So Modric called Sportsmail directly from his superyatch to trash talk Spurs? :wenger:

We can read you know

It seem that he's more interested to join Chelsea over us, my muppet is really sad. Killoy :(

Oh Dear.Looks like we were never interested in Modric. This was all a Cafe driven campaign.

Chelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League. I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family.--Luka Modric

That pretty much rules out a move to anyone besides Chelsea. Spurs wouldn't sell to Arsenal and if Modric is unwilling to uproot his family and wants to stay in the capital then that knocks a move to Manchester outta the equation.

Case closed.

Two ways this can to now: either we hammer in a bid and wages offer that blows Chelsea out of the water or we feck off and buy an el salvadorian wonderkid who shit's all over the prem next year for £3m.

As I said before IMO he's not worth 25m let alone 45m. Chelsea's 22m offer is a reasonable offer. I think his end product is just not there.

Don't want him to play for us even if he issues a 'come and get me' plea to United.

Very disappointing if true, though I'm still a little sceptical about the interview, I don't know why Modric would invite Daily Mail journalists onto his yacht. But every paper is running with it so its probably legit.

To be honest, for all the laughing at Glaston, I and many other Spurs fans thought similar. He signed a long contract at the end of last season when we weren't looking like we were getting into the CL. He didn't have 2 years left like Carrick and Berbatov. I thought he'd stay one more season and then move. Someone's turned his head clearly.

I never believed Modric was loyal, none of them are anymore. But I thought he'd stay one more season before moving on. Modric is actually being very sneaky on this. Trying to engineer a move through the press and without putting in a transfer request so that he can stay on good terms with the fans. That certainly won't happen if he ends up in blue next season.

Levy needs to man up and take one of three options. Tell you, Chelsea, City to feck off and tell Modric he's staying one more seaosn, after which he'll be sold for a certain price. Ask for something ridiculous from Chelsea (50 million and Sturridge) and see what they do. Or my preferred option, man up and sell him abroad. None are particularly attractive.

We're now in the rather unenviable position of having four clubs above us who can all offer champions league and significantly greater wages and a club below us who can offer significantly greater wages. We need that new stadium fast or a sugar daddy I guess (though don't want that) to compete.

He has come out and said in his own words he wants to leave and wants to stay in London.

I think this case is closed folks. Nothing to see here

I think Spurs will be fine without him to be honest. They can use the cash to buy a few much needed players like Strikers and central defenders.

What he wants and what he gets are two different matters. I want Cheryl Cole and a billion £ in my bank account, I can tell you that with my own words but it doesn't mean it's happening.

Time will tell, but footballers normally do get what thy want in the end
