Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Time will tell, but footballers normally do get what thy want in the end

Yeah but it tends to be different when it's one of your local rivals that the footballer wants. Apart from Tevez. If he wanted any other club outside of London I doubt they'd be too bothered. Time will tell though. He wouldn't be the first or last to jump across the city.

Another player throwing his toys out of his pram at Spurs shocker. Glad that he has set his mind on the chavs

 @ Glatsonspur

£25-28 million would be fine. If we were to enter the bidding at such an amount and get him then fair enough, but it seems very likely he's on his way to Chelsea. There are very good alternatives to him so it shouldnt worry

been reading some things on twitter and it seems Chelsea is where he wants to go. Would kinda be gutted if that was the case, but fair enough... :(

So what role is he taking on at Chelsea? The fact they don't even have a fecking manager to decide that makes it hilarious and slightly embarrassing for Modric IMO, "I always wanted to play under, errrr, our next manager, his approach to the game has always suited my game". How are they going to present him? With Stamford the Lion?

Who would you suggest? Give me your top 5.

I dont see why we'd need a list of 5. I'd say that if we decide on a specific type of player we might face maybe 1 or 2 knockbacks at a max before we find our alternative.

Its not like we're Spurs and need to bid for about 5 players before we can get someone keen to join.

Ever Banega
Modric would be my second choice
Montolivo would be third

Possibly in it for the money. But we cannot always say just because he does not choose us that he has done it for the cash.

It is quite resonable to say you dont want to move house and enjoy living in London.

Reckon this could signal the demise of Frank lampard - he's been on the slide for a while

Banega is one of my favourite's. Do you think United is a alternative for him? Argie and so...

Did you feel the same way about Tevez wanting to stay in Manchester?

Without really wanting to just mock Glaston this is what he never managed to understand. He thought that just because Modric said he was happy, was on a long term contract and Spurs had been in the Champions League he would be guaranteed to stay. Reality is that once a big club showed genuine intent to sign him he was always going to come out with these comments.

He's entering his peak years and wants to be competing for major honours and if he goes to Chelsea he will improve them immensely.

I'm not sure about the specifics of your question. Are you asking if he'd be interested in moving to United? The answer would be that I dont know, but I would hope so. He has made comments about being fine staying at Valencia for now but we dont know how he would feel if a team like United made him an offer.

According to the Italians Banega is close to Napoli and the fee for him is close to ridiculous (around 12m euros).

 no

Closest to a move to Inter, but the most recent comments from Banega's camp (post interest) is that he's happy from Valencia but wants to know if they plan to cash in on him this summer or not.

Depends on your definition of a 'big club.' Apart from the Mourinho years on, in my lifetime Spurs have always been a bigger club than Chelsea. The annual fixtures against the renties - when they were in the 1st and not the 2nd Division, never elicited as much excitement as the games against Spurs.

He was once linked with Inter but that trail has gone cold (I won't be surprised that they'll go back to him though since they are close in signing Bielsa as coach). Napoli wants him to strengthen their midfield and Banega would prove great for them.

Modric to Chelsea wouldn't be good at all. He would improve them a hell of a lot.

A midfield of Essien, Lampard and Modric? :nervous:

So why have most of you given up on him signing for us? I'm puzzled to say the least.

Bielsa rejected them and accepted an offer to become the new coach of Athletic Bilbao if Josu Urrutia wins the presidential elections.

I want to stay with Valencia for many more years - Ever Banega

The Argentina international has been linked with a move to Inter, but has no intention of leaving the Mestalla and has pledged the next period of his career to the club

Midfielder Ever Banega has revealed that he is eager to remain with La Liga outfit Valencia for "many more years", despite speculation of a move away from the Mestalla.

The Argentina international has reportedly caught the attention of Italian giants Inter, but the Giuseppe Meazza side have yet to make a formal approach. Nevertheless, it seems that Banega has no intention of leaving the Champions League qualifiers.

"I want to stay with Valencia for many more years. I have always been very happy with the club and the people here," he stated, according to Marca.

The 22-year-old joined Valencia from Boca Juniors in January 2008 and has since made well over 75 official appearances for the Primera Division side. His current contract runs until the summer of 2013.

If a big club came in for him and put an offer on the table, he may be one of the many footballers who change their tune and look to leave like we're seeing with Modric.

But he's not going to Napoli. And dont get me started on the ridiculousness of that 12 million euro figure. Valencia absolutely will not accept an offer less than what they paid for him, they have specifically said that in the past - before he even became their most important player. Its more than likely they'd want at least the 24 million they got for Silva

I am saying what the Italians are reporting. Napoli is not a small team. They will be in the CL next year.

People have given up on him signing for the wrong reasons in my opinion. The sole bidder is managerless Chelsea, which means this is a Roman signing so getting into a bidding war with him would be pointless (for everyone but Daniel Levy)

I actually feel a bit sorry for spurs fans. over the past 10-15 years they've built some really good sides that always play good football, they've always backed their managers financially (even the shit ones) but never lived beyond their means. Were it not for sugar daddies at city and chelsea, both of whom are smaller clubs than spurs, they'd quite probably be a comfortable top 4 team by now who'd have no trouble keeping their players. bascially despite doing pretty much everything right down the years its still not enough to bring them success because of the unfair advantage being gained at other clubs.i hope the ffp regs do bring some real accountability into the sport to counter this but i'm skeptical they'll have any real effect if im honest

bit off topic that huh sorry, umm  @ Glaston

Sneijder and Modric are in a class of their own when speaking about realistic targets - if we go one step behind them, I have been impressed by Javi Martinez.

What I am slightly worried about - is that he could be a bit too slow and I would prefer a quicker player like the 2 abovementioned

So are Valencia, like they were this season

It doesnt really matter what the Italians are reporting, they're talking rubbish with that figure. Just like the British were with the links to Liverpool.

I am saying what the club and player have said. We should listen to that instead

Hiddink has been in an advisor role for some time and it's thought he has a list of targets for Chelsea to work from, with an eye to him becoming manager again soon.

Chelsea are the last team Spurs will want to sell to (apart from Arsenal). This means that if we do enter the bidding war, (which I think we will) Spurs'accepting bid will be slightly lower, which can only be good news for us.

I have no doubt we're interested in Modric, in fact, now that this news has come to light, i'm even more confident he'll be wearing a United shirt next season.

Theres no rush to make a bid you shithouses. Just because we havent yet, it doesnt mean we wont. This isnt Football Manager where we can instantly make bids. Spurs havent accepted a bid and Chelsea are yet to improve theirs.

The London factor may very well be the decider, but its not the be all and end all...

So am I still missing something or did Modric say Chelsea are the only team he wants to play for?

I'm confident we'll be in for him too, the london comment is perhaps concerning but we don't know the context it was given. If the interviewer simply asked 'are you happy in london?' his answer was fair comment. alternatively if he was asked 'would you consider moving to manchester' and he gave the spiel about being happy in london its a bit more of a telling answer. SAF is known admireer, i've no doubt we'll make the required enquiries

That part is made up. He never says he doesn't want to leave London. It's quite obvious that it's a charm offensive to try and make Spuds understand why he wants to move to a local rival.

Yeah, except it's not made up.

I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family

That means he doesn't want to move, because he said he wants to stay, and staying means not moving. He said 'I want to stay in London' not 'yeah Manchester or London is where I want to be.'

If the question was 'are you happy in London' he would have said yes, not 'I want to stay in London'

It wasn't just that he was happy here, he actually said I want to remain here in this city. That's quite specific.

Or it could be the genuine reason behind his decision to push for a move to his local rival. What makes you so sure he's lying?

He said he wants to leave Spurs but wants stay in London and not move.

You see, you've just made up the last bit. I dont know where you got that "not move" from, so if he said that, it would tip the scale massively towards Chelsea, but he didnt, so...
