He says he wants to stay in London and play in the champions league. Whether or not he says he doesnt want to move, its implied by his comments and the scale is already tipped massively towards Chelsea.
You see, you've just made up the last bit. I dont know where you got that "not move" from, so if he said that, it would tip the scale massively towards Chelsea, but he didnt, so...
I want to stay = I don't want to move.
There's really no ambiguity in what he said. Some of ye are clutching at straws here.
Yeah, except it's not made up.
That means he doesn't want to move, because he said he wants to stay, and staying means not moving. He said 'I want to stay in London' not 'yeah Manchester or London is where I want to be.'
I dont see why we'd need a list of 5. I'd say that if we decide on a specific type of player we might face maybe 1 or 2 knockbacks at a max before we find our alternative.
Its not like we're Spurs and need to bid for about 5 players before we can get someone keen to join.
Ever Banega
Modric would be my second choice
Montolivo would be third
That low 22m bid is starting to make sense now.
Spurs must be fuming.
It can turn ugly very fast.
That's an interesting one. His contract expires in 2012 and he's refused to sign a new one so he's definitely available. Has there been much rumoured interest from other Italian clubs?
Will Spurs want to sell to Chelsea or any of their London rivals? And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't say no to United and we do fit his category of "being able to win the League and play in the CL"
Personally, I want to continue living and working in this country, but if I got a better job offer elsewhere...you see where i'm going?
I'm not saying that Modric may see Man Utd as a better opportunity - he may not - but the fact remains that Chelsea are the only ones who have bid for him, so of course he's going to appear keen to join them as he'd like to leave.
Are they any more likely to sell to us?
Do you think Levy is favourably inclined to United after the whole dossier fiasco?
There has been some from what I've seen. I saw something about Milan having a meeting with his agent, not sure how accurate that one is. But I've seen him linked with a couple of the better Italian teams
That's fine, I only responded to your bit that I made up the fact that Modric didn't want to move, when he came out and said 'I want to stay here where I am' which means that he doesn't want to move. If he was open to another place he would not have said 'I want to stay in London' he would have said 'I like Chelsea' or 'I am open to Chelsea or United' or anything other than 'I want to remain here in London' which is quite specific about what he wants.
I also can't see why if you want a move to Manchester to occur in the future or any other big club, you would come out and tell the press that you wanted to stay in the city you were currently in but move to a different club which narrows it down to a few clubs. It's counter productive if that's not actually what he wants.
Why would he say he's open to a move to us if we havent even bid for him![]()
but the fact is we cant second guess him and its all a bit pointless trying to speculate.
Or it could be the genuine reason behind his decision to push for a move to his local rival. What makes you so sure he's lying?
This will be a tactic co-ordinated by Chelsea and the Modric camp. Spurs will now be desperate to bring other bidders into play.
Why's that then?

The one thing that doesn't compute is the Modric agent talking about him being worth 40m on Thursday. That's not going to help!
Well assuming we dont send Gary Neville to persuade him to join, i'd like to think the history of the club and the opportunity to replace Scholes is something that he'd relish. The stability of the club in terms of management and the fact we actually have a manager should be more assuring. Oh, and us being Champions for the 4th time in 5 years.
Thing is, Modric might not see things how I do, but you cannot argue that they're all valid reasons to choose us over Chelsea. I dont buy this London thing. Footballers are always changing their minds anyway. Didnt Ronaldo say he wanted to join Barcelona a few years ago?

Sneider is my number one choice, just concerned he is on around £200k net p/w
What does Glaston have to say now that Modric has admitted he wants out?

I hope Arsenal bid, a possible replacement for Fabregas, or Nasri.![]()
Levy might still dig Glaston out of this gigantic hole he's made for himself. It really would be catastrophic for Spurs to sell Modric and for that reason they'll want huge money for him. Not the £50m that Glaston suggests but certainly something approaching £40m.
