Manchester United Asia Tour 2009 - China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia

Malaysia have lined up two matches against Zimbabwe as their final tune-up in preparation for an exhibition match against Manchester United on 18 July.

K. Rajagobal, the head coach of Malaysia, confirmed that initially the team was supposed to play Syria but has since changed it to take on Zimbabwe instead.

The two games against Zimbabwe will be on 12 July at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Cheras and two days later at the Shah Alam Stadium.

“At the very least, we will get two quality international matches under our belt,” said Rajagobal.

However, Rajagobal could not but lament the lack of time in which he has to prepare his squad against the English Premier League champions.

While the one-off match against United may just be an exhibition, Rajagobal feels that the team must look at it as part of the build-up for the long term.

“We only have a few days to prepare against Zimbabwe and then a few days later, we will face one of the strongest teams in the world,” added Rajagobal.

“But I believe that we have taken measures in which to prepare this squad within the shortest time possible and I hope that we can put up a commendable showing in the matches which we will play in these few days.”

Out of the 28 players that have been called for centralised training, only four players can be considered as being in the ‘veteran’ category and they are Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Amri Yahyah, Norhafiz Zamani Misbah and V. Thirumurugan.

"Only the matches against Zimbabwe will decide which player will get the chance to be in the starting eleven against Manchester United. There’s no guarantee for anyone,“ the coach added.

Tihi.

Very excited about this game, hopefully we'll see some of our new signings.

I'd prefer to see the new signings try to adapt and fit in with the more experienced players than fielding a side of youngsters to be honest. Put Valencia and Owen on the pitch and see how they fare in our "strongest XI".

Wow, the season starts here, has been quite a long close season so far, looking forward to seeing the boys back in action.

Good news if you can't wait for your next dose of live United action: MUTV and MUTV Online will be showing seven pre-season matches live this summer.

Live match coverage starts with all four games on the Asia Tour*:

Malaysia XI on 18 July
Indonesia All Star on 20 July
FC Seoul (Korea) on 24 July
Hangzhou Greentown FC (China) on 26 July

The action in Asia will be closely followed by two Audi Cup matches** in Germany:

Boca Juniors on 29 July
Bayern Munich or AC Milan on 30 July

Finally, the Reds return to Old Trafford for a friendly against Spanish opposition:

Valencia on 5 August.

feck I'm going to sign up, don't want to wait any longer to watch Owen playing for us. Maybe it's just been such a long break.

;) I just signed up for a month. 5 quid. $8. After that the TV should take over.

Bahama, change this awful logo in your first post here, there are better ones if you search in google ;)

And that Malaysia logo should be changed, too.

I never realised the words on the Malaysian logo until now. 'Kena sepak' translates to 'got kicked' so the logo actually says Malaysian Got Kicked Organisation or something to that effect..

Hmm. Need to work out if this is getting shown in Sweden. They show selected MUTV programming, involving reserve games often, so hopefully they'll be showing these United friendlies too

I hate friendlies, but I still watch them, such is the desire for football

What's the time difference?

Yes, but hasn't kena sepak been slang for "play football" for a while now?

Or is it like kena bola or something?
That was a parodied logo of Malaysian Football Association. Look at the sad looking tiger with one of the back leg being bandaged

I'm not malaysian, but the last time I saw the logo, it says "bola sepak" not "kena sepak". Bola sepak means football.

It's GMT +8 over here.

 I didnt notice the bandaged leg. It does seem fitting, though. Getting kicked and a lame tiger. Epitomises what we are in football
