--------------VDS--------------
---Gary---Wes---Vidic---Evra---
-Park-Smith-Rooney-Richardson-
----------Ruud----Saha--------

Subs: Howard, Ronaldo, Rossi, Bardsley, Giggs/Fletch*

*: I doubt he'll be fit enough to start, but if he can give us 20-30 minutes if needed then it's definetely worth having him on the bench i think.

Let's get back to basics or try to, and win this game. One defensive midfielder and one with a bit of flare and creativity, without Scholes, Fletch and Smith don't come close as a partnership in there.

That said, i can see Fergie going with that line up but using a 4-3-3 and not a 4-4-2. Also the chance of Fletch instead of Smith and Ronnie istead of Rihcardson or Park but that's not what i would do.

Fulham are on a good run at the minute, more so at Home than Away mind but still.

I reckon 3-1 sounds realistic.

Fulham just love to score against us and at OT. wasn't it 1-3 a season or two back? Forlan equalised just before HT i think.......i should know i was there.

Well the good news is that I started the thread which means we most likely wont lose. Every Matchday thread I start we win. 5 wins and 1 Draw. :)

Anyway I think we'll win 3-1.

Rest Rooney, and play 4-4-2.
Edit: As Rio is banned for that game, play Vidic instead.

Rest Rooney, play again Rio and Wes as CB's, and play 4-4-2.
Agreed.

Why rest Rooney?

With us out of the CL we should be willing and able to field our best possible team, after suspensions and injuries, on a consistent basis which is beneficial for a side. Fatigue and overseas trips no longer a concern, rotation and resting of players is i would say arrogant and complacent, this cannot be justified IMO.

And i don't think we have the personnel to act like it either [even if some think we should], not for a while will we have the luxury.

2nd spot may not win you a trophy or a place in football history, but you are awarded with a guarantee of Champions League football, finanical security and more time to prepare for the challenge ahead next season, you know where you stand and so will the players you are looking to bring in. If we secure all that, our rivals, Liverpool, don't.

There's always the chance of a Partisan Belgrade situation like with what happened to Newcastle a couple of seasons back and look at them now, let the others take such risks.

But that's just me i guess. :)

Maybe so, but the other 10 players on the pitch will have to carry him through parts of the game then if need be, like he's done for them and the team at times this season.

Scholes is out, Giggs at best on the bench, Ronaldo below par and so on, how can we afford to voluntarily weaken the side's creativity any further?

It's not to the level we'd like it to begin with and with all those players fit.

I don't think there's an absolute need to rest Rooney. We're going to be mostly playing once a week so he should be fine

Hopefully, Rio's suspension will force SAF to actually play at least one midfielder in a midfield position
