Manchester City vs. Manchester United

Hope SAF goes with Berba-Hernandez rather than 4-3-3. Kompany is a monster of a defender in superb form, I'd fancy him to chew Berba up and spit him out but with a partner I see Berba having a more productive game due to his own style and the fact Hernandez would create the space for him by occupying Kompany and Lescott.

Hate to say told you so, but the 4-3-3 played right into their hands. The lack of threat in behind to occupy their CB's allowed them to play a higher line and press United further up the pitch. As soon as Mancini barked out the instruction to push up, the game was only going to be won by one side. Sadly for us, Scholes' moment of madness stopped any Berba-Hernandez threat right in it's tracks.

They deserved the win. Played better and overall just looked a heck of a lot more enthusiastic. De Jong and Toure were immense for them.

Bloody awful this losing to them especially like that but they were by far the better team. First half was close with us having moments in the two Berbatov chances and them later on via Balotelli shot and some of the wide shots they had. Then City just seem to come out as they finished the half but with more fire. 45-60 or 65 minutes they just dominated us, none stop chances, constant corners in one spell and we could not touch the ball.

As others have said, hard going one nill down to them because they have three defensive midfielders. Its disappointing because we knew if we won this we'd likely win it after so long and same goes for them in regard to 35 years etc. The bugger is that even if they don't win it (which you'd expect them to now) they'll bang on about it for ages like the Leeds lot still do. 1-0 blah blah blah, its horrible. We better get used to it though because they'll be there or there abouts as long as they have the money and with SAF set to retire one day it will be tough. Just have to pray for Stoke/Bolton I guess, really pray.

Very bad day at the office for us, hopefully we move on. I'd still take the #19 now any day of the week but I know some will be gutted in that we were quite close to a treble/cup final etc.

But, why wait till the 83rd minute to get O'Shea off?

Leaving Berbatov on when we were down a man for so long was the bigger mistake I thought. He was already sulking around and possibly carrying a knock, it was almost like 9v11 at times. Would've preferred a straight swap with Hernandez as soon as Anderson came on.

Did you actually see it? VDS passed them the ball, he was supposed to clear it and instead went 'there you go' and gave it them on the edge of the area, if you think that's not messing up then there's no point discussing this any further.

Yes Carrick made a mistake, after seeing his keeper feck up big time he has to think wtf shit got to pass and got closed down and intercepted, he made a mistake yes due to being put under unecessary pressure from his keeper messing up. In your own words, deal with it.

The knee jerk comments here for one bad mistake are hilarious after he's been getting glowing praise especially from Scholes about how great he is.
Carrick wasn't closed down straight away, he had a bit of time on the ball and actually gave it away and that player went on and scored. Theres nothing knee jerk about it, Carrick made a mistake, accept it.

No mention of Park running around loosing possession, falling over in space, etc.

So 8v11 sound fair?

You dislike Berbatov, clear as day.

I've actually defended him on countless occasions this season and am one of his few fans, but he was useless today.

It's easier to overlook Park having a bad game when he's one of 5 midfielders and still runs around where it's not so easy to overlook our only forward walking around.

I don't think anyone is. But he did have an awful game, so he is going to get slated. Easy. I've also slated Scholes, so I guess that means I don't like him either?

Nope and I've said as much in my original post. This was just continuing a discussion from someone else's post.

There is something incredibly knee jerk about cries to sell a player that made a mistake. There's nothing that needs to be accepted pal, are you trying to tell me a goalkeeper passing the ball to the opposition on the edge of the box, isn't a major mistake? Is that what you're trying to say?

It was VDS fault for not clearing the ball as he should have done. Had he cleared it the rest of the team would have not had to try and fix his mistake which lead to the goal.

Now just because they made a mistake, doesn't mean they should be sold, VDS fecked up royally but we aren't shouting to sell him, the sell Carrick bit is pathetic since everyone has been praising him for weeks, even our own squad but oh one mistake and he's shit?

For some reason I was not as pissed as I usually am when we lose a game. We lost a game against City and I wasn't exactly pissed. I don't know why.

Still, at least it wasn't in the league or Europe. If we HAD to lose one of the three, this would be it. Still hurts though.

Oh well. Liverpool well-wisher for 90 minutes this afternoon

One shall seldom saunter on me todd, and all that malarky.

Exactly. If anybody said we had to lose out on one, of course it'd be FA Cup. Seriously, I wasn't as nervous about this game as I was about Chelsea in the CL. Yes, to be 90 mins away from a final and not get there is disappointing, and even more so when it's against your city rivals. But I'm sure we'll forget about this if we win the title or the CL.

Or both!

I'm not overly fecked up over the result, but i am a tad annoyed that Fergie played Berbatov on his own. If there was anyone to play that role it was Chico. He closes down at pace & would cause them all sorts of problems. Fergie should of taken Berbatov off at half-time imo, he was pretty much havin one of the those days & he looked lathargic most of the time.

I like Berba, but he wasnt in the game like he has shown he can be this season. How he missed that sitter i will never know. I think we all said in our heads - "that better not come back & haunt us", and it fecking did. It also might have pushed us on to get another, because we were playin well for a period in the second-half & thats where we could have capitalised!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing i know, but I was baffled Fergie didnt change things up front long before he did, and more to the point - why play Berba instead of Chico. Also, Nani had a complete stinker too!

Our next game away to Newcastle on Tuesday is gonna be vital that we win, because thats a blow to the players. Newcastle will be well up for it as always, so we need a good performance & any win will do. The League is the most important thing, everything else is a bonus & I celebrate a league win like I did back in 1993. Never take success as a given

From the beeb

Newcastle

Suspended: Nolan (one match)

Doubtful: Ameobi (knee)

Injured: Ben Arfa (broken leg), Best & Smith (ankle), Gosling (knee)

Man Utd

Suspended: Scholes (three matches)

Injured: Fletcher (virus), Hargreaves (shoulder), Lindegaard & Rafael (both knee)

Why that post with injuried and suspended players is in THIS thread?

And don't believe BBC. Our Injury Thread is the best.

I thought United started extremely well. The first 30 minutes was as good a 30 minutes I've seen them play this season. I thought in the second half they didn't use the flanks as much as they should have like they did in the first half. IMO, City got a break with Carrick's blunder. You couldn't say at that point City were the better side. Once Scholes was sent off it was a big mountain to climb but with 10 men they still created chances.

Mistakes happen. I seen it as a right footed player who took an extra step to pass the ball because he wanted to play it with his right foot. It just goes to the point of learning to use both feet really well.
