Sunday 9th December 2012
Barclays Premier League
The Etihad Stadium
KO: 1330 GMT

cant see anything other than a city win.

Giggs hat trick...

....of unsuccessful Hollywood passes.

A midfield selection from Scholes, Giggs, Carrick and Fletcher.
No Valencia, No Nani
An iffy defense
Rooney not in the best of forms.
GK musical chair

All of a sudden it is looking quite depressing.

We'll probably win 2-1.

city without Silva, Richards, Clichy, Kolarov. Us without Vidic, Valencia, Nani, Anderson, probably Cleverly, Kagawa. So.................

Hart, Maicon, Kompany, Nastasic, Zabaleta, Milner, Toure, Barry, Nasri, Aguero, Tevez.

Lindegaard, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Young, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Rooney, van Persie.

2/3-0 City.

Should add though, I think if we had maybe a Nani and Valencia we could probably get a result here. But that likely team is just not good enough.

De Gea
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Carrick Fletcher Rooney
Young
Van persie Hernandez

A bit of a shite lineup, but we don't have many options here... Anything but Scholes or Giggs in midfield. Would have preferred no Fletcher but with Cleverley getting injured I can't see that happening. Rooney in midfield, Young behind Van Persie and Hernandez because we don't have anyone else to put in there. Basically no fit right winger means we can't play a 4-4-2, only 1 good fit midfielder, meaning one of Fletcher or Scholes have to play, and if we went with both of them it would be suicide.

Not optimistic at all about our chances after today, hoping we manage to grind our a draw there. They are in pretty shite form but their midfield absolutely shits all over any thing we can put out. Was confident a week ago but then Anderson and Cleverley go and get themselves injured :(

If Cleverley is out.

de Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Fletcher
Rooney
Valencia - van Persie - Young

Even when I kind of took a look at the schedule prior to the start of the season I had this down as a game we lose or at best draw in. Not to sound negative, I just try to be realistic. So not holding out much hope for this game.

Usually when we all think we're going to get a walloping we end up winning but I just can't shake the negative feelings after tonight, even if it was just a friendly

Last time I was this pessimistic it was against Chelsea about 2 months ago.

Same old story when it comes to injuries. :( I bet Silva will play.

Would have had a decent shot at this if we had Anderson and Cleverley but with those two most likely to be out and Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs and Scholes our midfield options, I don't really have much hope for this. Sunday wouldn't be a bad time for our first draw of the season.

If Cleverley is out.

de Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Fletcher
Rooney
Valencia - van Persie - Young

Valencia is injured no?

Scholes will play surely. I am not saying that he should, just that SAF won't leave him out, he did score a goal at Eastlands a few years ago after all!

I would guess at

-------------------Lindeguaard--------------------
Jones---------Rio--------------Evans----------Evra
----------Carrick---------------Fletcher------------
---------------------Scholes-----------------------
------Rooney-----------------------Young----------
-----------------------RVP-------------------------

Was thinking Valencia might be back. Hopefully.

If City were in any sort of form themselves i'd be dreading this.

As it is, if our strikers turn up - we could scab it.

Thinking about the midfield scares the shit out of me though.

They are not, their last 5 game record is won 1, drawn 3 and lost 1.

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Carrick
Young

Rooney
van Persie

Those nine starting places pretty much nailed on I'd guess. Those other two spots to be taken by any of Valencia, Scholes, Giggs, Cleverley or Kagawa. Ideally Valencia and Cleverley though chances are neither will be fit.

I can see us going with Smalling at RB to give us more height at set pieces.

This would probably be for the best:

De Gea
Rafael---Smalling---Ferdinand---Evans---Evra
Jones---Carrick---Fletcher
Rooney

RVP

... though maybe we need more defenders.

But seriously with the injuries then I'd like to see:

De Gea
Rafael---Ferdinand---Evans---Evra
Carrick
Fletcher---Scholes
Rooney
RVP---Welbeck

I'm seriously thinking of putting a very large sum of cash on a City win.

The defining game of the season for me.
Lose comfortably and all of a sudden the players will start to believe we are top of the league by sheer luck, win and we're 6 points clear and will have beaten city, arsenal and liverpool away and would surely kick on with huge confidence.

nice to note that city havent won a big game yet this season. draws at stamford bridge and anfield, draw at home to arsenal and no wins in the champions league.

total guess, 1-3 united, rvp 2, young 1

---------------de Gea----------------
Rafael-----Smalling---Rio----Evra
---------------Carrick
--------Cleverley----Anderson(if fit)
---------------Rooney
--------RVP------Chicharito

City lack width and depend mostly on their fullbacks for that, their strengths are a strong midfield. Put numbers in there, close them down and counter with the front 3. A draw is acceptable, seeing as we are away from home and 3 points ahead.

It's a good thing some of us posters weren't around in May of 1941, when all seemed hopeless and lost.

A win for United is definitely in the cards. A 0-1 scraper sounds about right, but I'll happily take an ugly 0-0 draw. The key will be whether our central defenders show up or whether we're going to be treated another horror show.

I have a feeling we might see Jones in midfield for this ahead of fletcher

Could be a good energetic midfield player to have but we will need to use the ball well

Rooney/Young will be key - with no Nani/Valencia/Cleverley we're lacking some creativity and RVP needs decent supply

Hoping we get a surprise boost with injuries but it's one off the very very few times in the last load of years I'm not expecting a result

This was the kind of game someone like Phil Neville would have been MOM in though so if we get the heads right and are up for it we can get something

Did you not happen to see the last 2 games? Anderson and Cleverley are both out for this..

City lack width and you want to play a diamond?

When we've started with Hernandez/RVP and Rooney it hasn't worked at all

Lindegaard
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Smalling - Jones
Fletcher - Rooney - Carrick - Van Persie

Not sure what formation that is really but yeah. Arsenal 2005 FA Cup style

Lads, lets hear it for human cloning!

I think you're right about Jones starting v City. Jones and Carrick, lying behind Rooney and Young -- fairly obvious, actually. It seems Clevz is a doubt now and if he is out, Powell could be given the shock start. I'd love to see it.

By the way, this is NOT a must-win game. You want the win, you'll happily take the draw but a win means very little in the grand scheme of things. We're fecked with injuries and that sucks, but sometimes when you're down so many players your lesser players step up their game against tough opponents. I actually like our chances of getting the win, but I'm okay whatever the result is this time around.
