Manchester City vs. Manchester United

With Cleverley and Anderson fit, we would have won this. Without them, I don't think we have a hope in hell. We basically don't have a midfield.

We have not played both for most of the season and seem to be doing ok.

Change the record would ya? Same old for too long now.

OK, Pretty sure we'll line up something like this in front of the defence

--------- Carrick ---------
-- Jones ----- Cleverley --
-- Rooney ----- Young --
---------- RVP ---------

Jones will play I reckon. Not sure where, but he'll play.

swap Rooney with Young. I prefer Rooney cutting inside and Young crossing from wide. Rooney on the right is a complete waste.

Jones and Cleverley provide industry but not much creativity but it will do.

I just fear Scholes will start

I'm seeing a lot more love for Powell than Jones in projected starting XIs outside the caf.

There's nothing like a baptism by fire!

They could have been fit and not play the match (Cleverley's case more than Anderson's).I think we could have had our entire squad injury free by the case, we still wouldn't be able to beat them there.

I just hope we don't bottle it and play a defeatist lineup like we did in the game their last year. We played for a draw and got a big 'F you. We need to start keeping it tight at the back but not wimp out totally or fear the fixture.

Horrible feeling about this one.
I'd take a draw right now.
But I so want to fecking beat these twats.

We'll play defensive, unimaginative football like we did last year, and lose 2-0. But it won't be a humiliation so SAF will be happy.

Wrong. We'll score in the first half and play great football for the first twenty or so minutes. Then it's all City swarming over us for the next 70 and we'll hold our hearts and pray.

It will probably end up being a pretty dull game as both sides play cautiously. I'm not optimistic purely because our defense has been so crap and I just can't see it improving enough in one week to stem the flow of attacking options city can have.

A draw would be a very good result considering how many injured players we have. If we do lose..then for goodness sake don't let it be a hiding...I don't think I could take that again and I don't want that goal difference to stretch even further...!

lot of negativity on here. think sometimes people forget the quality of players in the united team. its all about city and how powerful they are. well I think we'll do em. and do it playing well.

If that happens I promise to wire you £100 (yeah my budget is limited..)

Our midfield is the thing that makes me fear this game though, especially with so many players out.

hard to predict the line up. and of course its scary. we're away to our biggest challengers. but SAF and the players have a habit of turning in a performance when its not expected. I just have a feeling this may be one of those games

I really all comes down to how Evans and Rio play. If they can maintain focus for 90+ minutes we'll bag the trey. If not, we won't. We've got enough quality to score two goals on City, which is what it's going to take.

Most important thing tomorrow is for us to win and almost secure our place in the Premier League next season by reaching that crucial 40 points barrier!!!

Sorry I'm just nervous ahead of this one

It's not Evans and Rio that concern me oddly enough. The full back positions worry me;Evra and Rafael can be excellent and have been for a lot of the season, especially Rafael but if they both get caught out of position we will suffer. Not sure if Cleverly's fit but my line up would be this:

De Gea
Smalling Rio Evans Evra
Carrick Fletcher
Welbeck Rooney Young

RVP

City don't put many crosses in as they aren't really a wide team and it's been crosses causing us problems lately. Still, we're vulnerable on set pieces but we've also scored more set pieces than anyone else so that could balance it out.

I take your point but if they identify a weakness there(FB) then they might get their full backs overlapping.Where we've looked vulnerable this season has not always been against teams who are naturally'wide' teams but those who exploit space left by players out of position

This. Possibly a 442 to make things worse :(

We didn't have a game breaker like RVP last year. You'd hope that SAF won't be as negative but on the other hand this game isn't at such a crucial stage as last year

Fergie will want to win this one all right, just to get a bit of revenge for last season if nothing else. It's nice to have the old hatred of the bitters back again after so many years when they were irrelevent.

Its sad to say this but I fear Fergie team selections more than I fear City.

Given the fact that it's tight at the top - United three points clear, City with a marginally better GD - I think SAF (privately) would take a narrow defeat.

I have no confidence in us given how we're defending. Cleverley's and Anderson's injuries couldn't be worse timed tbh.

Are you at the wum? Feed me why would he take a narrow defeat right now? What a shit way of thinking. Feck me.

I imagine that the day Fergie goes into a game with the mindset of being happy with a narrow defeat is the day he hangs up his gum.

The feck? :wenger:

You obviously don't have a clue about Ferguson.
