Manchester United v Manchester City

If Nani is going to start, it should be on the right.

Well Valencias a dead cert to start against City id imagine, the fact he was rested today would suggest hes a nailed on certainty and rightly so hes been excellent for us this season....so i think he deserves to play on the right, it shouldnt really matter if Nani is selected on the right or the left flank in truth it dosnt stop him doing what he did so well today i.e taking players on putting in great crosses etc...

It's far easier to do on your natural foot, though. Nani was excellent today but I doubt he would have been as good on the other flank. His left foot is good but there's no way he could put in a cross with his left like the one for Rooney's 3rd.

Oh yeah i agree and im sure if you asked Nani hed say he prefers to play on the right to i just think Valencias form this season as a whole and the fact he was left out today suggests he will start right wing against City and hence to keep Nani in the side (which after today i think he more than deserves) hed have to play on the left wing.

Nice problem to have anyway, one that i doubt many of us expected a few weeks ago, i certainly didnt.

Team selection will be crucial for this one... who should play against Bellamy? Rafael would be my first choice, but I'm not sure if whether Fergie will go for experience and choose Neville/Brown.

Van der Sar
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Valencia - Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs
Rooney - Berbatov

Harsh on Nani, but Giggs, Fletcher, Carrick and Berbatov are certain to start IMHO, so he'll have to make an impact from the bench. Maybe Nani gets a start on the left, but I highly doubt it.

neville shouldnt be let near the 1st 11 for this. Cities forwards are way too pacy and he would be roasted

Rafael is perfect for this one. We need to stifle thier main men and I hope to jaysus that someone outs tevez 3 foot into the air

This, but I think after Hull, SAF uses a managerial trick and goes to Nani and gets him to choose between this game and Arsenal to keep him stoked. So if Nani says this game, I think Nani for Valencia or Giggs.

From the PGMOL website

Ah, I should have read the article I saw better. But any ref we get is going to be shite, I suppose.

van der Sar

Neville Ferdinand Evans Evra

Valencia Fletcher Carrick Giggs

Berbatov Rooney

Kuszczak; Brown; Rafael; Anderson; Park; Nani; Owen

Think Fergie will opt for Giggs on the left. Harsh on Nani, I know, but I do expect Nani to come on at some point in this game. I also think this will be a game that Fergie starts Neville to utilise his leadership and experience as well. Going to go for a 1-0 win with Rooney the scorer.

I really don't think Berbatov will start this one.

Not a big fan of Berbatov are you Boss?:smirk:

I would love it if we scored in the 10th minute of stoppage time after 3 minutes were indicated. Just to piss them off even more. :D

Just to be different

I have to admit that i am somewhat surprised by the ready willingness to start Rooney in this, bearing in mind the Arsenal match.

That being said, i should be an even greater surprise were Sir Alex to agree with you but um, time will tell.

Owen scored a hat-trick against Wolfsburg -> Bench -> That was wrong
Nani was fantastic today -> Bench -> That is wrong

The difference with Nani is based on one good game he doesn't deserve to be in ahead of Valenca who has been very good for us consistently

In his time here I can safely say, for big games, no.

In interview after Hull game boss was asked about selections and mentioned we want to win it and everyone is desperate to play but, there is the Arsenal game after and must think about it as well.

Said the team for Wed would most likely be different from Wed to Sun.

I still go for same line up posted earlier of

VDS
Brown, Rio, Evans, Evra
Valencia, Fletcher, Giggs, Nani
Rooney, Berbatov

Though I could see Carrick replacing Fletcher.

My guess is away at emirates the team will be

VDS
Rafael, Rio, Brown, Evra
Valencia, Fletcher, Anderson, Scholes, Nani
Rooney

Do you think SAF will start Rooney for this one? After all his comments about the Arsenal game being more important and resting players. Think Owen and Berba might start this one. Shame if its true cause we could do with Wayne's red hot streak for this one.

Something we already suspected.

I'd rather us go at this full whack and go into the Arsenal game on a high, instead of resting players, getting knocked out and going to the Emirates, where we haven't won in the Premier League before, on a downer.

Even if we're able to focus on the Premier League only (I don't think we're winning the Champions League unless everyone's fit and we get a few slices of luck), it's never certain that we're going to win it, or even be favourites to do so. So I'd rather try and make this final so we have something to reflect on if it all goes tits up in the major competitions.

I'm sure every fan would rather win the Carling Cup than nothing at all, and shutting City the feck up in the process makes it even more worthwhile.

Anyway, Arsenal have a just-as-tough trip to Villa Park on the same day we face City, is a slight bit of fatigue (that we're less likely to feel if we win) really going to do us that much harm? We have three days off before the game anyway. Provided we avoid injury it's fine.

Near enough full strength please, and let the goals keep flowing.

agree on all of this

Agree lets be responsable for City not winning atleast 1 trophy (we can't do anything about the FA cup).
Give ourselves the bragging rights and keep the banner up that i sit behind!
If we can't get up for and win this game we have some major issues.

Why do people have Neville and Rafael at RB. Brown is our best bet there.

The team I'd like to see against Shitty

Brown hasn't played there all season, unless he swapped position with O'Shea at some point during the Burnley game at Turf Moor.

surely to god, fergie isn't going to be so stupid AGAIN!!

4-5-1 in an away game against a side of City's quality is never stupid, going 4-4-2 earlier wouldn't have necessarily stopped the City goals.

4-5-1 at home is probably not a good idea in these circumstances.
