Manchester United v Manchester City

Yeah, because Carrick is better at interceptions. Carrick has overall been better than Fletcher this season, questionable pick, really.

Barry, Milner and co are short-ball players, interceptions won't be a substitute for pressure and tackling.

Right, because we were discussing possession retention on the first place, which he said that Scholes was the best at retaining possession. Obviously, I was referring to the holding midfielder role. Secondly, someone needs to fill in that defensive role to cover for Scholes to go forward (not exactly in a prime condition to track back), and Carrick is obviously the better option to fill that role.

All of the midfield 3 that we've selected will be required to be flexible and fulfill different roles throughout the match. They're all more than capable of it and that's the beauty of having talented, intelligent midfielders.

The midfield roles aren't as rigidly assigned as you're implying.

Scholes is still capable of tracking back - you make him sound like a geriatric.

Apparently this referee is top notch.
