0-1 Brown og, 89.

Easy win if Souness was still in charge but now it's a little trickier

We all hope that but it never happens:(

It will one day. When it does, I'm going to throw a party. Except we won't actually know that it's happened. We'll just have to guess by the absence of spastic threads.

I blame very_ruud for Ray's ghosting this is a disgrace!

Play:

---------van der Sar---------
Neville---Rio---Brown---Evra
Ronaldo--Fletch-Giggs--Park
--------Ruud--Rooney------

Newcastle are on a pretty decent run on form ever since Souness' sacking, and United-Newcastle games tend to be quite high-scoring. I wouldn't put it past them to score, considering how poor our defensive organization has been at times this season. But I'm confident we'll score, and we'll have to take our chances up front because Parker and Emre will slaughter whatever midfield we put out.

Line-up
Code:
.....................Van der Sar........................
Neville........Brown...........Rio................Evra
Ronaldo.....Fletcher..........O'Shea.........Giggs
...................Rooney.................................
.........................Ruud..............................
SUBS: Howard, Saha, Park, Richardson, Vidic

Neville, Brown and Rio are definite starters at the back. I hope Evra's knock in yesterday's reserves game wasn't so bad, and that he'll be available for Sunday. Silvestre was awful going forward against Wigan and I was getting increasingly frustrated with his tendency to hoof the ball forward. Evra whilst a bit lightweight can at least cause problems for the Newcastle defence with his pacy runs down the left. He'll have to take care of Nobby Solano, who on his day can be very dangerous, but it won't be as physical a challenge as he had against Trevor Sinclair in his debut (Solano's not that good in the air either, is he?).
I thought Giggs started playing better once he moved out on to the left after Ruud was brought on for Park against Wigan. He'll be instrumental in helping out Evra defensively, and he has more ability to stretch the Newcastle defence than Park does. O'Shea is quite a pansy, but I still think we should just play him simply for a lack of better options, and because we need some big and tall to clash with Parker when he surges forward. IMO Fletcher usually performs quite well against Newcastle, and we'll need his positioning sense and work rate in the centre of the park to help keep Emre in check. Down our right side, we'll probably be exposed quite often when Neville makes runs down that flank, but Fletcher and O'Shea should be available to cover for him and keep N'zogbia at bay when Newcastle counterattack.
Ruud deserves a start. Rooney too, even though he had a poor game against Wigan by his standards - we'll need him to drop deep and add some creativity to our play.

Prediction:
4 - 2
Rooney '23
Solano '36
Ruud '57
Fletcher '65
Ameobi '70
Ruud '85

Heinze vs Solano match-ups has always been fiery but interesting tussles. Will miss that in this game.

I fancy Evra to start in Silvestre place. He looked good in the reserves game as it wore on and formed a good link up with Richardson who moved to LW after Fortune was sub. Definitely a lively threat going forward. I think Fletcher should be back, in place of O'Shea. I'm pretty sure Giggs will remain in CM for most of the remaining games - he's doing a good job there - though not in the sense of dominating midfield like Keane but rather as a creative outlet.

4-1 United

Ruud
Rooney
Ronaldo
Saha

Solano/Shearer/Emre..

Considering they have the worst centreback in PL history playing for them & the 2nd worst centreback in PL history partnering him, I'd be very disappointed if we don't score at least 3 goals.

They've done a lot better in recent weeks though. Roeder has helped make big improvements in that area , with him being a former defender himself.

Bramble is injured:(

Scot parker will be the difference maker. If he dominates the united makeshift midfield, then we are in for a fight for sure.

I feel giggs is far more effective on the left wing rather than central. How about playing park in the middle. I am not very sure but I think that was where he played for PSV a few times. He has a very good understanding with Rooney and Ruud (Assuming Ruud starts the game) and that should help us and with Giggs and ronaldo on thw wings we can hit them for all directions.
