On the thinking that Rio is out my team would be.....

GK: VdS

RB: Evra
CB: Brown
CB: O'Shea
LB: Heinze

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Fletcher
CM: Scholes
LM: Giggs

CF: Smith
CF: Rooney

3 points and a 4-0 win Rooney x2, Ronaldo and Scholes with the goals

I think Giggs will be rested, anf Fletch on the right with Scholes and Carrick, apart from that i think you've got the correct lineup

I agree. Fletcher-Carrick-Scholes-Ronaldo would be perfect in this occations. Ofcourse Giggs should be in the bench :)

we're lucky this isn't too difficult of a task, the injuries are really fecking us up.

I dont think O'Shea should play center back right after coming back from injury.

Reds rocked by injuries

Rio Ferdinand looks set to miss Tuesday night's Premiership encounter with Sheffield United after limping out of Saturday's FA Cup semi final win over Watford.

Ferdinand was originally a doubt for the game after picking up a groin strain in Tuesday night's Champions League clash. After aggravating the injury at VIlla Park, Sir Alex revealed the United defender would undergo a medical scan on Sunday morning.

"Hopefully it's not a long-term injury," the United boss told MUTV. "We have three days' rest now so we'll take advantage of that."

Ferdinand was replaced in the 40th minute by Darren Fletcher, who made the unlikely move to right back. But even before Rio's exit, the Reds' defence had a real look of unfamiliarity about it. Patrice Evra and Gabriel Heinze started together for the first time this season, with Evra used on the right hand side as he was when he came on against Roma in midweek. With Fletcher's introduction, Evra switched to his favoured left back position, while Heinze moved into the centre to partner Wes Brown.

Ferdinand now joins fellow United defenders Gary Neville (ankle), Mikael Silvestre (shoulder), John O'Shea (calf) and Nemanja Vidic (shoulder) on the treatment table, although O'Shea and Neville are expected to return soon.

Sir Alex does have youngster Craig Cathcart available and could hand the 18-year-old his United debut when Neil Warnock's Sheffield United side arrive at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Bench/;Kuzczak, Fletcher, Richardson, Dong, O Shea, Ole
Prediction:3-1 win with goals from Rooney2, Scholes
Cathart to come in at right back which will be easier to play than at centre back. Heinze is abot shaky but he is still an Argie international there. I would be more calm having an Argie international at centreback than having an 18year old rookieplay at centreback. We can slowly ease Cathart by playing him at rightback. Even if he makes a mistake, the oponent will still have to go to the centre where they have to sqaure off with our centrebcaks. Play Brown as his nearest covering defener rather than Heinze and also lay Rooney rather than Ronaldo in front of him to give him more midfiled protection.

No use riskingRio, Gaz or O Shea back into the side if they are not fully fit. Its Sheffield United at home. If we cant beat them at home, we dont really deserved to win the League.

Out: Rio, Neville, Vidic, Silvestre, Park, Saha

.

Cathcart won't play on Tuesday because he's got the Youth Cup final on Monday

Can't see Saha starting, but a chance he may be on the bench i think. If he can get some minutes on the pitch, all the better.

I've got nothing to go on, it's simply what i'm hoping for. And it has got to happen sooner or later.

van der Sar

Fletcher Brown Heinze Evra

Ronaldo Carrick Scholes Giggs

Smith Rooney

That would also be my choice. Saha if fit to come on with 20 mins to go.

Imagine if that actually happened one day.

I'm sure it will, if Rio had an og why not Brown? And it's not like anyone would have predicted it since it's in every freakin' matchday thread.

It would be quite the coincedence if it did happen on the 89th minute though.

I think there are many more goals scored in the last few minutes of a match than in say the 18th minute. If football follows the same principles as hockey, which I think it does to some degree, most goals are scored at the beginning of halves, at the end of halves and soon after other goals.

I'm not saying it's likely, just a lot more likely than me winning the lottery for example.

Undoubtably.

But still for it to be an own goal from a defender in that exact minute is pretty much killer odds.

VDS

Oshea
Brown
Heinze
Evra

Fletcher
Carrick
Scholes

Rooney

The 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation we seem to be playing lately with ron and roon patrolling the wings, gives us incredible pace.

Rio definately out, Neville also still out, will O'Shea be back? or else we be forced to play Fletcher at right-back again.

my streak is over, but I'm glad my loss didn't end up making a difference whatsoever

You're turn will come again. It's much a bigger risk making these kind of threads at this stage of the season. Every game may be a decider, is it therefore you might hold out for next season? :wenger:

I think Brown and Heinze is a better defence pairing than Brown and O'Shea. Neither Brown nor O'Shea are good at organizing, while Heinze should be. Heinze started off nervously, but came into his own towards the end. Once they develop some sort of understanding in training, we should see the benefits. They just need to keep it simple.
As for Sheff Utd, it is not as easy as some ppl seem to think. They beat West Ham 3-0 don't forget, and are playing for the premiership lives, so expect a touch game with no quarter given.
Still, as long as we play at a fast tempo, and don'tg et complacent, we should win this one because our attacking play has been excellent the last couple of games.

Imagine if that actually happened one day.

I would make a thread speaking of my incredible prophecies, and be bowed down to by all the noobies.

And then I'd kill myself for not putting a fiver on it.

This match could be a tricky one. Our defence will have to be protected at all costs. Better to use attack as the best form of defence here. Maybe Cathcart will get a start or Fletcher may be RB. Either way I hope John O'Shea is available for selection. Also would be nice to see Saha get back on the pitch and score some goals.

van der Sar

Evra Brown Heinze Richardson

Ronaldo Fletch Scholes Giggs

Smith Rooney

Reckon our back 4 need a bit more protection hence Fletch and Richardson should help add a bit of pace....

chance to go 6 points clear for 24 hours at least, got to take the 3 points.

2-0

tight game, we'll get a goal in both halfs of the game

evra heinze

So Rio, O'Shea, Vidic, Neville, Park, Silvestre and Saha are all out?

I'd go with:

----------------VDS---------------
Fletcher---Brown---Heinze---Evra--
Ronaldo---Carrick---Scholes---Giggs
----------Rooney---Smith----------

3-1. Ronaldo, Smith, Rooney.
