Barclays Premier League
Manchester United v Stoke City
Tuesday, 4th January 2011, 20:00
Old Trafford, Manchester

......Van Der Sar
Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - O'Shea

Nani - Fletcher - Carrick - Giggs
Berbatov - Hernandez

Rest Rio and Evra, cant expect them to play every game over such a short period, Rooney i doubts gonna play after todays knock but hope hes not to bad, Nani will hopefully be back as will Giggs after being rested today,.

Yeah United lack the deadly touch without him, he is supposed to start on Tuesday though, no?

van der Sar

Rafael
Smalling
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Fletcher
Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov

SUBS: Kuszczak, O'Shea, J Evans, Anderson, Obertan, Owen, Hernandez.

With Evra and Rooney off after an hour or so, in order for them to be fresh on Sunday vs Liverpool.

Going to this one with my missus and when she's been to Old Traffrd we've won every time (only about 10 times or so) so don't worry lads, it's an easy 3 points :)

No more Neville please unless we are 5-0 up, if it wasnt Stoke i would have rested Rio.

Would never rest Rio against Stoke and Kenwyne Jones - then you need experience and height.

And for Gods sake - lets put someone decent at rightback to face Matt Etherington. And if we succeed there - they have no established attacking football

We really should give them a tonking, all things considered. I'd be really confident if Nani returns, and on our own patch, with Rooney and Berbatov firing, we could cause that Stoke defence a world or problems.

Erm Rafaels our first choice and stand out right back isnt he? or would you prefer geriatric Neville up against Etherington? or tractor movement O'Shea?

----------VDS----------
-Rafael-Rio-Vidic-O'Shea-
Nani-Carrick-Fletch-Giggs
-------Berba-Pea--------

should win this at home, 3-0 i would say. Nani, Berba and Chicarito to score!

are they allowed to bring their pack of ball boys with them to chase Delap up & down the touchline with towels?

:D

Rio was really good today except for his tackle giving away the penalty. His height, calmness and experience would be needed against the 'long ball and long throw' Stoke team. I think he should play in this game and then not play against Liverpool in the cup tie. The next PL game for us after this one is on the 16th of Jan against Tottenham. So that is plenty of rest for our first teamers.

Think O'Shea might be out of this ... any chance of playing Smalling at fullback?

Van der Sar
Brown--Ferdinand--Vidic--Smalling
Carrick-J. Evans
Lindegaard--Macheda--Berbatov-Kuszczak

So it´s okay if we`re winning both games against Arsenal too?:lol:
I think you should read his post again.

The Liverpool game is a cup tie. Why would cards carry over to the FA Cup?
The FA handles disciplinary matters, as such suspensions for cards accrued in the Premier League carry over to other FA competitions, such as the FA Cup and League Cup. Funnily enough, not the Community Shield though. The most recent example of this that springs to mind is when Ferdinand appealed his ban for Violent conduct when he attacked a Hull City player in the League, so he could play against Manchester City in the League Cup while the appeal was being processed.

-------------VDS------------
Rafeal--Ferdinand-Vidic--Evra
Nani---Fletcher-Carrick--Giggs
------------Kaka-------------
--------------Rooney---------

10 - 0

Kaka x5
Rooney x3
VDS x2

I have a bad feeling about this match, kinda expect a starting XI with tons of rusty squad players.

Play full strength. Rafael should start and Neville should be no where near the subs bench or the first team.

--------------------------Van Der Sar-------------------

--O Shea------------Smalling--------Vidic----------Evra--

--Obertan----------Fletcher------Carrick---------Giggs---

-------------------Berbatov------Hernandez---------------

Subs: Kuzczak, Evans, Rafael, Scholes, Owen, Macheda, Nani
Prediction:2-0 Berbatov, Carrick

I don't really like the Fletcher-Carrick combo in midfield to be honest. Carrick is more of a deeper defensive mid and we need someone like Anderson to make forward runs often and Fletcher is not one of them. They might work well in a 3 man midfield but not in a 2 man midfield.
