Manchester United vs. Derby County

I'd have to agree with you Veron. Don't want to field too weak of a team and insult them enough to battle for a draw, but I think this is a sound line up. Just keep Ronaldo in the side, and give Rooney 90 minutes.

5-1 Ronaldo to score first goal in the 13th minute. Might go and stick a couple of quid on that.

Play our best eleven (except Giggs) and trash them. Rooney and especially Tevez need some goals.

ffs, forget about all 7-0, 8-0, 9-0.....

anyone remember Sunderland in 2006? 0-0 at Old Trafford..
or Wolves in 2003? 1-0 at Old Trafford...
or West Brom in 2005? 1-1 at Old Trafford..
or Norwich away in 2005? they won 1-0...

I will be happy with a 1-0 win..

'Kinell.. Manchester United winning by the odd goal against the worst side in the Premiership at the historical Old Trafford, and you'd be happy?

It's bound to happen, more so if our previous result against shitty sides were pretty low as you've shown.

Yes, a 1-0 win is 3 points, right?

I hope your right, come on 7-0 please ;)

It is 3 points, as is 7-0. You're right but we have yet to see a match were everything clicks this season. I'm hoping for it tomorrow.

Although Derby will have a new manager, yes? The new-manager-syndrom might take effect.

Yep, the key is an early goal. If we get 1-0 in the first 15 min, the Derby players might think about what happened at anfield(6-0) and emirates(5-0 I think) and it could be a great afternoon for Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo to score many goals.

We´ll probably lose this one since you are all so fecking confident:(

Now: I can understand people who post in here before and after the game but how the fecking hell can you lot post DURING THE feckING MATCH ITSELF???? I love beer but I sometimes find it hard to look away to find the can, nevermind typing stupid comments about how we are playin/he should´ve scored/atmosphere is poor/YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES 1-0/FFUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKK 1-1 aso aso. Watch the fecking team and support it even though you´re just in front of the tele and give the fecking laptop a rest for just the odd 90 minutes you computerised morons..., Thanks

What if some people are watching on their computers (not me, I'll be there)

Seriously i can't understand how everybody see the necessity of a playing a ball winner against Derby,Carrick and Anderson are more than capable of performing defensive and offensive duties against them,i see Nani also playing ahead of giggs, nice time to play without too much pressure. If pique or Simpson don't start then its a real sad situation for the lads,if you can't be trusted to play derby at home then?.

Simpson-------Pique---------Vidic-------Evra
Ronaldo-------Carrick-------Anderson----Nani

Why should we rest players when we have a midweek game that doesnt matter at all. Lets make sure we trash Derby with our first team and rest all of them for Roma. Last time we understimate a team we lost 1-0 and we also need to get a better goals difference. I still remember Sunderland getting a draw at Old Trafford and yes they were the last team on the league that season so we better do what we gotta do.

5-0 - Ronaldo to get his first hat trick for the club. Rooney and Tevez with the other two.

SAF will mix some squad players in with a few first team regulars and United will probably win 3/4-0. Then the press will talk about how Arsenal and Liverpool crushed Derby while United struggled to "breakthrough."

Should be a good match for the likes of Rooney and Saha to get a full 90 minutes. I'd keep Giggs, van der Sar, Hargreaves, Evra, Rio and Vidic out to give them a lengthy rest before the scum match. Get up 2-3 goals and bring Ron off by half or the hour mark. Surely that second string back four can keep the likes of Derby off the scoresheet.

----------Kuszczak---------
Simpson-Brown-Pique-O'Shea
Ron--Carrick--Anderson--Nani
-------Rooney---Saha-------

Bench: van der Sar, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Tevez

Would it be wise to field a total reserve backfield including a keeper? Vidic has had a week or two out a while ago so I think he should play at the least. Evra was substituted last match so he might have a niggling injury and it would be wise to keep him out. As far as the Goalkeeper situation goes, I say let Van der Sar play this match and let Kuszczak play @ Roma. This game is important because we want the result (convincingly). While we can use the Roma game as both a tool to rest our Starting XI ahead of the trip to Anfield, as well as a time to give the young guns and reserves a match. Who knows, maybe Dong will come out of his cave.:D

Let's not be silly. Play full strength team, save the reserves for Roma. (Who would have thought that, United playing a weakened team against Roma, full strength against Derby?)

This is our best chance to beat the Premiership record, let's go for it!!!!

Especially as the Roma game means feck all.

If United play a full-strength side against Derby it should result in a total slaughter... would not be surprised to see 10-0 at full-time.

Let's do it!!!

Time to make up all that goal difference in one game. It's almost like an extra point. :)

I'd rather talk about Ipswich in 1995. :smirk:

Those years mentioned... transition years. With the likes of Djemba, Kleberson, Bellion, etc., in a few of those matches. An aging/injured Keane, no Scholes, out-of-form Giggs, new players settling in. The current crop should destroy Derby. Citing Wolves in August 03 is a little harsh considering the season was not even two weeks old. No excuse against Sunderland in 2006 - that was one of the worst performances I've seen from a United side during my time around.

Norwich away lineup (not much creativity outside Scholes). Howard; Gazza, Rio, Mickey, Judas; Kleberson, Phil, Scholes, Fortune; Smith, Saha

West Brom home - Carroll; Brown, Rio, Mickey, O'Shea; Ronaldo, Phil, Kleberson, Fortune; Giggs; Smith

What's going to happen is we'll get an early goal then Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Tevez and Evra will all have a spastic competition to see who can do the best "tricks". We'll lose our intent and any shape then Derby will fecking wing one before half time then Fergie will bollock them at half time and tell them to cut out the part tricks and we'll go out and win it 2 or 3 - 1 or something.

same as this but we'll get frustrated in the second half, miss loads of chances and derby to nick the winner in the 89th minute. deflection off wes

SAF will be sacked, giggs sold and we'll buy bramble to shore up th defence

Sounds pretty accurate.

Or we'll come out of the blocks at 100mph, create some fantastic chances that narrowly miss by inches and the commentators will be spouting shit like "An early breakthrough here and we could see a cricket score", but the game goes on and on, the chances become less frequent, we start getting more and more frustrated while the crowd starts to groan loudly at every misplaced pass, the commentators will continue to bleat on about "one goal here could see the floodgates open surely" and before you know it, we're into the 70th minute and bringing on O'Shea to save the game, which will inevitably end with some scruffy miracle goal (good day) or a horrible draw/deflected goal for a defeat (bad day).

I'm an optimist.

The EPL just keeps on getting tougher every year...... its gonna go down to the wire this year I have no doubt.

I say 90% full strength against Derby and then reserves + 3 or 4 first teamers who need games against Roma. Got to remember weve got Pool next wkend.

do you guys think fergie will rest rooney ahead of next week or play him to get match fitness........and if he is playing, will tev or saha get the other place?

.................VDS..............
Wes......Rio....Vidic.......Evra
CR7...Carrick..Anderson..Nani
.........Tevez....Rooney

Tevez off at HT for Saha, CR7 subbed for Fletcher on 60mins...Evra for O'Shea HT also

Rooney needs games. It always takes him a wee while to get going after an injury. Fergie will want him firing on all cylinders for next weekend. He will start today and will probably end up playing 90 minutes.

Wouldn't be surprised if he makes the trip to Rome too. Along with Saha.

Would be a decent chance to give Simpson a match, so Wes might be left out.
