Saturday 2nd March 2013
Barclays Premier League
Old Trafford, Manchester
KO: 1500 GMT

In before the customary "bad feeling about this one" post.

Lindegaard

Smalling
Vidic
Jones (if fit)
Buttner

Valencia
Cleverley
Anderson
Young

Welbeck
Hernandez

Anders

Valencia--Smalling--Evans--Buttner

Nani--Ando--Cleverley--Young

Rooney--Hernandez

Or Kagawa for Rooney

DDG
Jones, Smalling Vidic Buttner
Anderson, Giggs
Young, Rooney, Kagawa
Hernandez

err ... I just don't know. Too many choices ... and dont mind if we lose, just need the very best XI SAF deems required to be fit, in form and ready for the next game vs Madrid!

Yeah, Jones won't play this. Rooney might as he needs game time to get warmed up for Madrid.

Rest all of the starting 11 otherwise.

RvP has played under 45 minutes since the first leg so I don't think Fergie will rest him for this. Rooney similarly needs more minutes too so I think (and hope) we see a strong team.

RVP picked up a knock today. SAF said he has a sore hip and we will try and save him for Madrid.

This should be a routine victory.

De Gea
Rafael Evans Smalling Evra
Anderson Cleverley
Nani Rooney Young
Hernandez

Sub: Lindegaard, Vidic, Ferdinand, Valencia, Welbeck, Carrick, Giggs

I want Jonny and his distribution from the back, back. I miss it

We'll probably need Vidic with Norwich being a handful in the air.

DDG
Valencia===Smalling===Evans===Evra
Nani===Cleverley===Anderson===Kagawa
Rooney
Hernandez

... or something like that - I'm really putting a lot of effort into these fantasy line-ups these days.

We'll probably need Vidic with Norwich being a handful in the air.

Yeah it's a similar situation to the Everton game. I still think we'll rest him. We've got a big enough lead to take risks.

Team should be...

Lindegaard

Valencia
Smalling
Evans
Buttner

Nani
Anderson
Giggs
Young

Kagawa
Hernandez

Subs: Amos, Ferdinand, Carrick, Cleverley, Rooney, Welbeck, RVP

Might as well hand over 2 points without playing then. I don't think Fergie will mess around too much with this match. Rooney and RvP will need some minutes and so does Kagawa, Young and even Nani so I think it'll be a strong team.

I'm shocked to see some of the XI people have.

de Gea
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
Nani Cleverley Anderson Young
Rooney Hernandez

Why the need to rest all the first team? They got 7 days rest from today and another 3 to the Real Madrid game which is at Old Trafford.
Carrick and Rio are probably the only ones in need of a rest, Vidic too if Fergie plans to play him against Madrid. RvP on the bench because of his injury today.

It's not about resting them as much as it is about avoiding an unnecessary injury.

Well they could pick up injuries at any point really so we can't protect them just because we got Madrid. If we make it to the next round, our QF 2nd leg will be just 3 days after the Derby and I doubt we'll rest anyone there so hopefully we play as many of our first teamers as possible next weekend, get the match wrapped up early and then take them off.

We will play our second XI and we will... DRAW!

Manchester United 1-1 Norwich.

Also, I just ate a cat.

I expect some of the members of the first team like De Gea, Ferdinand, Evra, Carrick and Van Persie will not take part in this fixture with the Madrid game in mind. I also think other regular players (Rafael, Cleverley, Rooney) may be taken off early in the second half depending on how the match transpires.

-----------Lindegaard----------
Rafael--Smalling--Vidic--Buttner
------Cleverley---Anderson-----
---Valencia---Rooney----Young
------------Hernandez---------

Subs: Amos, Evans, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Kagawa, Welbeck

Predicted team:

De Gea

Rafael - Smalling - Evans - Evra

Valencia - Cleverley - Giggs - Young

Rooney - Welbeck

Reasonings:

DDG: Fergie will want to keep him playing to keep him sharp and confident.

Rafael: Same with Rafael, he's young and his body can handle the games.

Smalling and Evans: I think he will want both Ferdinand and Vidic for the Madrid game and with a really healthy rest before it they can both be fresh and ready.

Valencia and Young: I can see Nani playing a big part at home against Madrid and these two need to play into some form.

Cleverley and Giggs - I think Cleverley will get 60 minutes to prepare for the Madrid game alongside Carrick who it would be good to rest. Giggs will be there to add "experience".

Rooney and Welbeck both to get a good 60 or so minutes in prep for Madrid.

It's more than strong enough to beat Norwich but has one eye on the Madrid game with a healthy gap at the top of the Prem.

I couldn't care less about dropped points as long as we play as strong a team as we can against Madrid

As we'll have a minimum lead of 12 points in the championship race with 11 games to go, and Madrid will be a really hard game, it's hard to see anyone arguing against resting players!

Ferdinand, VP and Rafael make good sense to rest, as they'll all need to be bang on their games to say the least v Madrid.

Possible cases for Evra and Carrick too.

De Gea

Valencia
Evans
Smalling
Buttner

Young
Cleverley
Anderson
Kagawa

Rooney
Hernandez

Rooney badly needs a game

Team against Norwich:

De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Evans - Evra
Cleverley - Anderson
Valencia - Kagawa - Nani
Rooney

Rooney needs another game before Madrid. Rest Rio, Vidic, Carrick, Welbeck and RVP. Give RVP half an hour at the end. The above team really should be good enough to do the job.

Team for Madrid:

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck
RVP

^^ That's a good enough team to beat Norwich and to take on Madrid.

vs Norwich:

de Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Kagawa, Rooney.

SUBS: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Buttner, Cleverley, Young, Hernandez, van Persie.
And get Carrick off after an hour.

vs Real Madrid:

de Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Nani, Rooney, Welbeck, van Persie.

SUBS: Lindegaard, Evans, Jones, Anderson, Giggs, Valencia, Hernandez.

Why do people not want Evans to play against Madrid?

It's not a case of not wanting him to play. If he does, I won't have a problem with it. Just we need experience and know-how from past, similar situations in these games and Ferdinand-Vidic is the best way to go in my opinion. Fergie may view it differently but we'll see.
