Tuesday 5th March
Old Trafford
Kick Off - 19:45 GMT

feck knows who will play beside Carrick

Nailed on starters:

DDG
Ferdinand
Rafael
Evra
Carrick
Rooney
van Persie

Here we go!

De Gea

Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra

Cleverley Carrick Giggs

Rooney RVP Welbeck

I keep changing my mind. I've posted in 3 separate threads since FT against Norwich regarding the line up for this match, and I've changed it so many times already.

Such a tough one to call.

De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Evra, Carrick, Rooney, Van Persie are definite starters.

Evans too will probably be starting for the simple reason we're still managing Vidic's knee.

Cleverley will probably start considering he's not played much recently.

That leaves the wingers. Before today, I think Nani + Welbeck would have started but Kagawa's performance has to put him in contention.

Personally, I would start with Nani and Kagawa in a 4-3-3.

I wonder if Kagawa has played his way into it, especially if Jones is out...because if he's out surely the gameplan changes completely?

Would be incredibly harsh to drop him, while at the same time it'd be completely understandable. I wouldn't want to be in Sir Alex's shoes over the next few days.

De gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Nani Kagawa Rooney
Van persie

Think we'll see this. Kagawa got a hattrick today and deserves to play, nani has been in great form and I assume was rested today. Hardest decision IMO will be carricks midfield partner. Neither Cleverley nor Anderson have been in the best form lately.

Its a hassle finding the images which are the same size and a decent sized image, so just went with this for now.

Then why start the thread. Should just leave it to Nemanja15 to do match day threads.

De Gea

Rafael-------Evans-------Rio-------Evra

Carrick---------Cleverley

Nani--------Rooney-------Welbeck

Van Persie

At the risk of being crude about it, we need fukk them in the ass and move on to the next victim.

Either we stretch them with Welbecks running in behind or go with Nani stretching them on the wings, that's the big decision for me.

Welbeck has to play after his last performance against them.

I'd rather he come on when it gets to the last 20 mins and the game is most likely going to be stretched. He can do a defensive duty but put a lot of their defenders on the back foot.

DDG

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Carrick
Cleverley

Nani
Rooney
Kagawa

RVP

I think that's the team we'll see, Vidic and Kagawa can feel incredibly hard done by though.

Assuming Jones doesn't make it then team should be....

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Cleverley
CM: Carrick
LM: Welbeck

CF: Rooney
CF: RVP

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Smalling, Giggs, Kagawa, Valencia, Hernandez

We need to progress here.. The season would be a bit boring if we go out here.

The league is in the bag.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Jones
Nani Rooney Welbeck
Persie

I want something like the above. One of Rooney/Kagawa/Giggs in the middle.

But we'll see something like this -

Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra

Carrick Jones

Nani Giggs Rooney

RVP

Will be happy with that too. Just hope Jones is fit.

SAF himself has admitted we're not going to keep a clean sheet so I can see lots of goals in this one.

I'm sorry, but starting Giggs would be a huge mistake IMHO. He's still class, but in CM against one of the best teams in the world? That's too much of a gamble and would remind me of starting him against Barcelona in 2011.
Despite Kagawa's performance today, my team would look like this:

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Welbeck
RVP

Scoring first is crucial. If we score first, I'm very confident of going through. If Real score first I fear it's curtains, they will hit us on the counter. So... I take a 0-0. We're going to defend a lot, set-pieces will be interesting too as Real are quite vulnerable in the air. I'm already nervous, what a big night this is going to be!

There's no way we'll play him in CM. I think whether he starts or comes on, he'll play wide left.

I could live with that, has been class on the wing this season. Still... Welbeck, Rooney or Kagawa for me.

Anyone think Young has an outside chance of starting? I don't think so, he hasn't played much since coming back from injury.

Agree. That's the team there I think.

Jones is certain starting if he's fit, imo. We need a good athelete to help with Ronaldo drifting inside and also on their pacy counters.

And Giggs if he starts will start as a Support striker, not a CM.

Hope Jones can make it. I think Welbeck should start after his great performance at Madrid; that'll give him great confidence knowing he has already gotten the better of their defenders.

I'd rather Giggs not start this one, maybe come on later as a sub. I still don't think Kagawa should start; he had a bad game at Madrid and Norwich aren't exactly world-class, so I'll stick Nani in instead.

We should also move Rooney a bit more forward, not in that defensive role which he sucked at.

Very difficult few days ahead for Sir Alex! He will find the right team, though.

Given today's selection I'm expecting:

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Jones
Nani --- Giggs --- Rooney
Van Persie

whats fergie's gum record in the matchday thread?

Not with starting Giggs, keep him till 70/75 minutes or perhaps extra time.
