UEFA Champions League

Past threads record:
Hi Damo!

I know we've qualified but I hope we can stop the rot with a win. A good CL run might boost morale and topping the group would help our chances.
At the same time I wouldn't mind seeing Fabio and having Welbeck playing up top.

We need a win to gain some sorely needed confidence.

If they're ready:

------------ DDG ----------
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra
----------- Jones ---------
----- Rooney - Kagawa ----
- Valencia - RVP - Januzaj -

We need a draw to finish top, which shouldn't be too hard to achieve, let's just hope our league form doesn't impact our European form. I don't think we'll lose 3 home games on the trot, when was the last time that happened? Although I've been saying stuff like I can't see us going 3 without a win and whatever every game

De Gea
Rafael Evans Jones Fabio
Anderson Cleverley
Valencia Kagawa Januzaj
Rooney

Wouldn't be surprised to see RVP pick up a knock by this game because he played the full 90 today despite not being close to fit clearly. Januzaj to get his first start in the champions league? He certainly deserves to start more then anyone in the squad bar Rooney.

Just glad to take the focus away from the league.

Strong enough team to win the group and make our final season in the Champions League potentially a little easier after Xmas (:nono:) but more importantly we HAVE to finally build some momentum from somewhere.
Different formation, and a couple of players that haven't played in a while or need a run in the side - whilst resting injured players like Kagawa, RVP, Welbeck, and players that shouldn't be played into the ground like Evra, Vidic and Januzaj.

I like that lineup, even giving Young a chance. Guaranteed that Fabio wont play, though :(

Tough one for Moyes, we could do with a win to turn the momentum, especially at Old Trafford but he'll be thinking about the League as well and wondering who to rest.

Id go with same team.

Cant see you not winning this one, European form has been excellent, You would have to lose not to top and I can see this one being 3-0, they are no great shakes away from home.

They won at Sociedad. Let us keep our expectations low at the moment.

Are you comparing yourself to Sociedad? I know United have been average, but they were absolute garbage in both legs. How they achieved top four status in La Liga is beyond me, maybe they are the reverse United and crap in Europe but good in the league.

What I'm saying is that they have won at a place where we failed to win. Although you'll understand that having been beaten by Newcastle at home after four decades I'm keeping my expectations low.

Yeah, but in Europe you've been good. Difficult to explain why, but I feel quite proud that a prediction I made that some scoffed at in the Kagawa thread that he would ' excel (and feature) in Europe more because his style suits the way continental teams often play and the immense space some of them leave gives him the chance to do his thing', same with Januzaj, he was your best player yesterday but I think in Europe he would have grabbed a goal or an assist.

a nice early goal to calm everyone's nerves and see out topping the group.

Can you imagine the atmosphere if we're struggling and knowing we're heading into the round of 16 as runners up? :nervous:

+ 20 years since Everton's last win at Old Trafford

@ItsEssexRob
You should know that Shakhtar Donetsk aren't a bad team, yes they've lost very good players like Mkhitaryan, Fernandinho or Willian since January, but Shakhtar Donetsk aren't Plzen or Anderlecht or Austria Vienna.......if Everton and Newcastle can win at Old Trafford at the moment then so can Shakhtar Donetsk.

feck it. I've been far to negative since moyes arrived as I never wanted him here. But he is and I need to get used to it, so....
The swagger to start to come back, starting here. Pack the midfield with Fellaini, Anderson and Kagawa. Look to control the play and pass the feck put of them. 2-0 to united with a solid performance. Disregard all my previous comments.

Not sure whhat to think anymore.I was quietly confident against Newcasatle but decided not to inx it and predicted 1-1.I think we'll win this game, I pretty much always think we'll win, so 2-1! I am not convinced it will be pretty mind!

Team wise I'd play Adnan and Nani again, and Rooney and Kagawa if he has recovered.RvP was only supposed to complete 60 mins yesterday so i'd leave him on the bench. The midfield options make me want to vomit! Same defence as Yesterday!

I'd be happy with whomever Moyes selects in defence (unless he plays Buettner for Evra).

Then Jones and Anderson in CM.

Valencia-Kagawa-Januzaj behind Rooney.

it's been a really sh!t week, but I'm looking forward to Tuesday.

Fresh game, and it's United, our boys after all.

Qualify as group winners and take the stress of a huge clash in the next round away, and get back to winning games.

Have a little bit of faith. Good ol' Moyesy will thrive against the Bayerns and Barcas of the world. Just wait and see.

As long as we make it a tough game for them, we can't really complain.

fecks sake

I don't really know how to feel about the CL at the moment, it seems to be purely a distraction from our dire league form, it's not like we're going to get close to winning it this year :(

A welcome distraction, that's all it is right now...

You never know though, all it takes is a handy draw and a lot of luck and we could find ourselves in the last four...

The cup competitions have a lot more significance now and a decent CL run might help us and ease the pressure on Moyes a bit. as someone mentioned a decent last 16 draw and we could be in last 8 for first time since 2011. the likes of olympiakos, basle, zenit or even milan would be a good draw. im not saying we can win it, certainly not. but a couple of good draws and good performances, which we can do in europe, you never know how far we could go.

or we could lose wednesday, draw bayern and be out.

im going to be optimistic.

de gea
rafael
smalling
evans
evra

jones
fellaini
nani
rooney
kagawa

rvp

2-0, rvp x 2

then draw olympiakos in last 16.
