Wednesday 30th January 2013
Barclays Premier League
Old Trafford, Manchester
KO: 2000 GMT

Rickie Lambert will score a header, that is the only certainty from this game. Sadly it will mean nothing because we should crush them 5-1 if RVP is playing.

Saints have a nice away kit. Why does the football on their crest have a halo though?

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Buttner

Nani
Carrick
Cleverley
Kagawa

Rooney
van Persie

SUBS: Lindegaard, Jones, Smalling, Anderson, Valencia, Hernandez, Welbeck.

De gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic evra
Nani Carrick cleverley kagawa
Rooney van Persie

6-0, Rooney x2, van Persie x2, kagawa and nani with one each.

Obviously hoping for that, but I'm expecting a nice comfortable win. Home, against a recently promoted team who has a poor defence. Really shouldn't be a game we have problems in and hopefully we can improve our goal differential.

New manager syndrome. Take the 3 points however they come...

Most teams that play well with their new manager tend to have done badly under the last. I think Southampton players will be pissed that Adkins was sacked, so I don't see them benefiting at all, if anything it will go the other way.

Back to the match, I think it would be harsh to drop Phil Jones. I think Jones has been one of our better players in the last 3 matches he's played. I hope we play him.

I'll go for a 2-0 United win. Don't expect much in terms of excitement but every win is extra special in the second half of the season.

This should be a comfortable victory. I can't see Southampton getting anything from this.

3-0.

This is on my wedding day. We'd better not fecking lose.

Going to this, should be a nice three points, RVP getting a couple and Rooney bagging one hopefully.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Smalling
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Cleverley
LM: Kagawa

CF: Welbeck
CF: RVP

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Ferdinand, Anderson, Valencia, Hernandez, Rooney

I'd prefer to play both Rio and Vida against Fulham away on Saturday, also we should play Welbeck to try and get him a goal. Nani simply has to play

With Nani playing the 90 today, I get the feeling Kagawa and Welbeck will be our wingers for Southampton.

Guys, Guys...

Could we finally play a front 4 of Nani, Kagawa, Rooney, van Persie?!

Play that front four and we'll fecking murder them. 8-0.

I heard that their new manager liked to employ a high-pressing game with Espanyol when they played against Barcelona - if he's able to get Southampton doing the same here then we could be in for trouble; though it would be interesting to see how our usual line-up and formation cope with a pressing game ahead of the upcoming European games.

Now that Carrick is playing so well, all of those players are decent under pressure, and could find that it offers them more gaps than a sitting-back defensive approach. Cleverley and Nani, in particular, almost play better when they're under constant pressure: the former because it forces him to try the more difficult things, which he's perfectly capable of but doesn't risk enough for my taste; the latter because the longer he has to think on the ball, the less effective his use of it.

After Smalling's great performance against Fulham I think he deserves to start. Hard to leave Rio out I know but Smalling just shades it for me. He's the ideal partner for the slower Vidic. I really hope De Gea starts, it would be a vote of confidence from Fergie seeing the stick he's been getting from the media, imo much of it completely unjustified. Don't think Ando will be far away from starting again soon, his ball that lead to Rooney's goal was

Bound to be closer than you'd expect, Southampton on a decent run coupled with a new manager coming in.

A win is the only thing that really matters though. Keep the momentum, and don't give City an easy route to reduce our lead below 5.

We should win but It wont be easy they haven't lost in 7 league games including draws with Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton and they have a new manager to impress. I think it will be a close game tbh.
