Monday 22nd August 2011
Barclays Premier League
Old Trafford
KO: 2000 BST

De Gea
Smalling Jones Evans Evra
Nani Carrick Anderson Young
Rooney Berbatov

Subs: Lindegaard, Fabio, Cleverley, Park, Giggs, Welbeck, Owen.

Judging on injuries and such... I'm gunna guess at a lineup of:

De Gea
Fabio, Smalling, Evans, Evra
Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Young
Rooney, Berbatov

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Fabio
CB: Smalling
CB: Jones
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Giggs
LM: Young

CF: Rooney
CF: Berbatov

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Anderson, Cleverley, Park, Welbeck, Owen

1-0 Nani with the goal

I cant believe it. A defence missing Evra, Rafael, Vidic and Rio and im not worried at all. (Evra may be back if running well though wouldnt shock me if Fabio starts)

SUBS: Lindegaard, J Evans, Jones, Anderson, Cleverley, Park, Welbeck.

I am optimistically going to think Vidic will recover in time seeing as he as eight days to do so. Competition for places is sure going to be tough especially as Valencia and Fletcher should be back either for this game or the next one. Plus we have Hernandez, Owen, Ferdinand and Rafael to come back from injury too!

Over a week away, any chance of seeing Hernandez?
Think it might be a week too early, at least. Fletcher is playing for the reserves tomorrow night away to Arsenal so could have an outside chance of making the squad for Spurs, although it would be a surprise.

Just realized I'll be skipping my first day of classes for this match.

Put Carrick in as the anchor in midfield, most likely in place of Cleverley, and I think that will be the front 6. The back 5 depends on Vidic really, If he's fit then he'll be in for Jones I'd guess.

De Gea

Fabio-------Smalling--------Evans--------Evra

Nani-------------Cleverley------------Young

Rooney

With two big games coming up Giggs and Park will be a part of the next two games. I have a feeling Giggs might start against Tottenham and Park will against Arsenal.

That's a good looking side.

Hopefully it will work to our advantage that Spurs have not played a competitive game yet.

I have to wait a whole week for my next fix.

Due to Ferdinand and Vidic being out (their injuries look like at least 2-3 week ones), I think we have to start with a 433 to help out the defence, no matter how promising and talented our three 'reserve' centrebacks are.

de Gea
Fábio Smalling Evans Evra
Carrick Anderson
Giggs
Nani Rooney Young
--
Lindegaard; Jones; Fletcher, Cleverley, Park; Welbeck, Berbatov

I think Fábio will start at Right Back in order to better deal with Bale's pace, and it seems a good idea to have at least one central defender on the bench. Fletcher will play for the reserves and can cover Right Back, so I think he'll make the bench. Giggs hasn't even played yet, and his experience might be required in a game like this... Playing Cleverley from the start despite his talent might not be the best idea with Ferdinand and Vidic out. Carrick should come back in and Anderson keep his place for the engine in midfield. Nani, Rooney, Young have to start and I think their interplay along with the craft of Giggs will let us in.

I think it'll be a game early for Hernández, but Fletcher, Valencia, and Owen are touch and go I reckon. Wouldn't surprise me if all or none of them make it. Much like the West Brom game, any win will do me. Gonna say....

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

de Gea to have a good game for his Old Trafford debut, Rooney or Nani to score.

How many of the players were even born when Giggsy made his debut?

Welbeck was 3 days old. De Gea was 3 weeks old. The twins were less than 5 months old. Baby Smalling had had his first birthday the week before. Old Man Chicharito and Old Man Cleverley were two. Phil Jones and Kiko Macheda had not been born yet.

could be a tricky game.

Spurs are due a result against us.

2-2 I think.

I'd go with this side to be honest, agree that Giggs will feature at some point.

Giggsy made his debut in March 1991, not in November 1990.

So, all the players you mentioned were four months older, Jones and Macheda had still not been born yet, though.

My team would be:

De Gea
Fabio
Smalling
Jones
Evra (c)

Nani
Cleverley
Anderson
Young

Rooney
Berbatov

I'd pick Fabio at right back solely cos I think Smalling is a better centre half than Evans is and in the absence of the elder heads I think his skills would be better used in the middle than at right back. It wouldn't be the end of the world however if the boss went for Evans in the middle and Smalling at full back though. We shouldn't change ourselves to adjust to others we should impose our quick passing game on Spurs and outplay them. We're capable of it so why not go for it?
