Manchester United vs. West Ham United

Danny Welbeck: ''1-0 up, few seconds to go? I know what I'll do, I'll take on three West Ham players and lose the ball. That'll make me look clever.''

Anyway, okay performance, 3 points are the main thing.

We ended like how we usually start 442 and no clue.

Todays formation worked effectively - no more than that. It's one game - need more games for the players to adjust. Rooney, Cleverley, Hernandez were sloppy.

Anderson, Rafael and Evans were all excellent.

Too many sloppy final balls.

Well that was shit but the 3 points are what matter. I don't really expect this team to play well at any point this season so it's the points that must make us happy. Rafael was absolutely brilliant and Anderson very good too.

so after all the excitement on here about the team selection....its kind of back to square one. I don't think it matters who we play at the moment...we are just missing a cantona...

Decent performance. We were sloppy in the final 3rd, and a poor in the last 10 minutes but we played some good football at times and kept a clean sheet for a change.

I think our possession and control was excellent - we would have trounced them if some of our final passes were not rushed.

The best part of the formation was finally - nobody running down the middle and it was easy for the centrebacks to cut out the crosses.

The midfield protected the backline well.

I thought we played pretty well. As nervy as watching crosses and long balls being pumped into our box can be we dealt with it and WHam struggled to create much. Good stuff, on to the next one.

Decent until cleverley came off. Shit after that. Very solid for most of the game though, and I could see this formation becoming our european away game lineup. Only real chances for them were from hoofing it forward from set pieces, and we wouldn't have to worry about that too much in the Champions league. Put Kagawa in there for Hernandez and push Rvp and Rooney higher and it would be better IMO.
For the league though, this is about the best we can put out atm with all the injuries. Hopefully once Valencia and Nani come back from injury they get their head out of their asses and start playing well for a change. Especially Valencia, who used to be so consistent for us. Young is just pure shit, nowhere near good enough to start for us. Hasn't had a good game since the game vs Spurs last season.

Can't remember the last time I was this bored watching United. Thing is, it's got nothing to do with being spoilt, I usually don't mind points dropped as long as we play well. At the moment, we grind out barely deserved results.

It'll take time for the players to really get used to the system, I thought last night we were in too much of a hurry at times and that saw a lot of attacks come to nothing but overall we were better than we have been for weeks, especially in protecting the middle of the park.

What happened to ensuring we won't lose the league on goal difference again?

Fine, crisp, quick passing at the start I thought. Final ball wasn't good enough at times though. Overall, good first half but a horrible second with one of the worst performances this season in the last ten or so minutes!

For me

Anderson Fletcher Kagawa
Rooney RVP Nani

With Cleverley possibly in over Kagawa if we need a bit more defensive solidity.

Do you think Fletch can return to the sort of form who showed in 2008/2009?

I thought we were utter bobbins at times last night. Really poor. First half was okay...but we're not creating a ton of chances.

I just watched the MOTD highlights of the game, and Big Sam made some similar boast ('we came here and limited Manchester United to very few chances' or something like that.)

In fact we had 23 attempts, 13 on target. That's pretty damn good. And anyone watching the game knows lots of our best attacks didn't end in clear attempts but were good nonetheless.

The more I watch this one, the more it seems like a really strong, dominant performance marred only by a lack of composed finishing to make the scoreline reflect the quality of our football.
