With Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Will Keane sidelined, Rashford was handed a first-team debut for the Europa League game against Midtjylland and grabbed his opportunity with both hands by scoring twice, a feat he remarkably repeated three days later on his league bow against Arsenal.

He quickly became a regular, starting 18 of the 2015/16 season's final 19 games and scoring eight goals along the way, including a famous winner at Manchester City and a crucial FA Cup goal at West Ham. Finishing the season as an FA Cup winner - and with a place in England's Euro 2016 squad to boot - capped an incredible breakthrough for Rashford.

An earlier notable step-up came in 2013/14 when he was selected as a lone striker for an FA Youth Cup tie at Leicester City and he did not let anybody down in what was then an unfamiliar position for him. Perhaps more comfortable operating in the hole between midfield and attack, the Manchester-born starlet managed to hold down a pretty regular place towards the end of that campaign. Four goals in 10 starts, including some real crackers, impressed all Academy observers and there was a feeling he was ahead of schedule.

I haven't been this keen for a season to start again for a long time, and Rashford is definitely one of the main reasons.

He's looked the real deal so far, hope he can kick on and have a stormer this season. Does anyone know if he's back for pre-season yet? As in, ready for Wigan?
 
Guy is still a kid,he doesnt need to prove anything next season,maybe managerial change will have positive effect or it wont,we will see.There is no need to hype/write him off based on performances in next season,thats just crazy.

No need trying to lower expectations. He exceeded them before, he will do it again. He will continue to improve. I think he will play at striker and as a right inside forward.

It is very unreasonable to expect him to be making winning impacts against teams like City/Arsenal and high-pressure games like FA Cup semis again.

Yeah maybe I didn't come across as I meant to. I just meant to say his general performance will keep getting better/stay on a high level. ;)

I actually think this season the pressure is off because we signed Zlatan. Mourinho will probably play Rashford mostly in League cup and Europa League games, with the odd PL appearance.

Nah all the england squad will go on tour but wont play. So probably not gonna feature until rooneys testimonial
 
I'm excited for this next season. Can be a massive year for him. Hope Mourinho treats him right.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has fixed a permanent place in the locker room for Marcus Rashford.

The Sun says he had to get ready with the KIDS under previous manager Louis van Gaal, despite his amazing start in senior football.

England sensation Rashford, 18, is among the youngsters who have joined the first team at United's Carrington HQ.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah, 18, and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, 19, have also moved changing rooms under new boss Mourinho.

With the way he exploded in his first presser when asked about his record with academy products, it got me thinking that Jose will treat this batch - Rashford, Timbo, CBJ, Lingard and maybe Pereira, Wilson and Tuanzebe - with extra care. He knows that there's still some doubt about his youth record and he wants to rectify that before coaching in the national level.
 
I thought he looked lively when he came on. Certainly hopeful last year won't be a flash in the pan.
 
Couldn't get into the game as much as I hoped but it's only preseason and his lay off for the first goal was sheer class.
 
We looked much better when he came on, his movement and pace opened up spaces for the others.

Marcus Rashford is set to have a period warming the Manchester United bench as Jose Mourinho looks to trim his squad ahead of the new season, according to the Daily Mail.

The new Portuguese boss at Old Trafford has been known in the past to trim his squad down to it's bare minus, and cast off any players he feels are not needed for his title push this campaign, and according to reports, it looks like Marcus Rashford does not feature in Mourinho's primary plans in his starting XI.

In the report, the Mail has included the youngster in a category called 'on the sidelines', and suggest that there is serious doubt from both Mourinho and his backroom staff that he will be able to make a significant impact on the side this season, despite his amazing breakthrough season under former manager Louis van Gaal.

Despite the player's first team opportunities being severely limited by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan arriving at the club however, many believe that Rashford's future at the club is secure, and will have the chance to impress the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager in training.

However, Rashford isn't the only United player that Mourinho has warned will not playing consistently. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian have all been told they can leave the club this summer, while Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young have been told that they are unlikely to feature regularly this season.
 
Such a sensationalist headline. Essentially saying what we all know, Rashford will play second fiddle to one of the worlds best striker in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Shock and awe.

Are they really basing this on a report they did themselves? Not worth posting.

Rashford will be on the sidelines. That much was obvious when we signed Zlatan. And that's exactly how it should be. He's done well since coming into the team and deserves to be given playing time, but has he shown enough to be given a first XI berth at a team that is hoping to win the league? No. He's an understudy, which is exactly where he should be at this stage of his career.

So, he remains a first team squad member. A squad with only 3 strikers where 1 is required on the left.

Not first choice, but as backup. Not a surprise.
 
Indeed not a surprise. Still hope he can get a good amount of playing time in, considering that he is basically the only striker backup if Rooney regularly starts on another position, which he probably will. He is still young and if he keeps his head down and works hard he is most likely going to get his chances to convince José that he is the man for the future.
 
I thought we relied far too much on him last season and he played a lot of football, with a lot of expectation on his shoulders. Not to dissimilar to Januzaj breakout season and look how that turned out.

Out of the spotlight will be good as I'm sure he'll get games, he's too good not to.
 
I don´t know. Sounds like an excellent way to ruin a young player´s well won confidence. And if he does win his job back, can anyone imagine Zlatan sitting quietly on the bench with that douchey ego of his. This is not starting well.

Seems like a lesson might've been learned from the Tevez-Berbatoss debacle. You don´t just bring in a veteran with a massive ego and gift him a starting position over a young, upcoming star who had earned his starting job for his performance from the year before. It ended up damaging both players.

He will rightly be the back up striker, and will get a lot of games as I imagine Jose will want to manage Ibra's fitness. We also will have quite a lot of games to play. Article seems like bs to me.
 
He'll still get a shit load of playing time. Great option to have off the bench, and will get roles across the front three I'd guess.

He will have known that, while he took his chance with both hands, he was a little lucky to get so much time last season. Being out of the spotlight for a while, and learning from the likes of Zlatan will be brilliant for him.

The guy is comparing Rashfords stats to Lewandowski, Neymar and RVP. The lad is 18 years old, his first season in the PL. Everyone was counting on him to score. A very unfair video. He talks about Creating chances and Finishing, these 2 things you can improve in training and gametime on the pitch.
 
Really can't wait to see him this season. The kid looks fecking special.

Problem with stat heavy cnuts like him is that they will very rarely address other tangiable qualities that Rashers has, like his interplay in and around the box which don't create chances directly, but allow someone else to make the final pass before a finishing chance. If ever a sport needed to take a lesson from the NHL in how they measure assists given the amount of passes made, it is Football.
