He deserves it, had very good season.

Will there be a second season syndrome? My bet is that it won't be, and assuming we do not sign Sancho (so he keeps his starting place), he'll score over 20 next season.

Unpopular opinion time..

I think he should be our first choice Striker this season.

May be harsh on Martial but I think Greenwood’s potential is on another scale. Lucky to have such a talent and we should get the most from it

He's not ready.

Also, you're really overlooking Martial's form in that last stretch of games. When everyone else was running on fumes he was really putting in some great all round CF displays.

I know he got some stick for missing chances against Sevilla, but we all know what a great finisher he can be.

Greenwood may well take the centre position at some point, but there's no rush.

Martial has been very good. If that were to happen, martial would have to start at LW. I think Martial has shown compared to Rashford post-break that he is the superior offensive player between the two whether at LW or ST.

anyhow, I don't think greenwood is ready to start at ST yet. Not for 30+ games a season. Therefore, think he should start at RW or first bench option.

Martial will take Rashford's place if that was to happen, but Greenwood is nowhere near ready to operate as a 9 for our team right now.

Greenwood hasn't shown he can deal physically with his back to goal yet. Our striker doesn't play a traditional style, they have to hold the ball up and link the play very well to bring Rashford/Greenwood/Bruno into the game, Martial is great at this.

Greenwood will get there eventually but he's shown out wide he can turn and run at the defense which is a big strength of his, why take that away?

At the moment Martial striker and Greenwood wide is better.

Expecting a quieter season from him after his breakthrough season last year. Hope we keep patience with him, still expecting him to get some crucial goals - would be happy if he bagged around 12-15 goals.

For an 18 year old he's unbelievable.

His ‘potential’ is irrelevant to what he is expected to deliver this season, especially in comparison to what Martial is expected to deliver this season.

It's very simple, if we give the ball to Greenwood in and around the box, chances are he'll make most of it and he's improving game by game.

If we don't sign Sancho and he keeps his place in the starting XI he's going to score 20+ in all competitions. He is that good, he managed to score 18 with more than half a season as a sub.

You guys realize this will be his 3rd season right ? His debut was that PSG game.

That game was 18 months ago, so calling it his 3rd season is a bit misleading. Last season was his first full season.

Will he change his number?
Hoping he will have a fruitful season, Sancho coming in or not.

Last year was his first full season, this season will be his second. 3 sub appearances and an end of season cameo don’t count as a season for me, personally.

We forget that Greenwood only starting becoming a regular post lockdown. So going into a full season with Greenwood playing, we will see alot more goals.

I love watching this lad play, always expecting something to happen.

Wouldn’t even be surprised if he gets 30 goals, he’s that good for me.

Following on from the Upemacano thread... Dare I suggest we play him centrally in rotation with Martial?

I think this is the reason why we haven't signed another Striker. Martial cannot play there alone all season. Ighalo is only here till January.

This is a reason why we need a winger signed this window.

At least we're setting expectations low

I still don't think it'd be the end of the world if we missed out on Sancho due to Greenwood's rise, we undeniably need a good RW though, even if it's just someone to play second fiddle to Mason.

It's not that I can't see Greenwood ending up a striker eventually, I actually think he will end up there. It's just that right now we want Martial and Greenwood pretty much on the pitch together at all times, they're by far our best finishers and thus our best goal threats.

Totally agree. And if you have a kid as good as Mason why would you sign another striker.

Address the position that needs addressing (RW) and play your elite talent in the position he's most comfortable in.

I'm aware we could play him at RW for another season and it wouldn't be too damaging to his progression but I honestly feel 2+ years on the RW (and it could be longer - it's taken us 10 years to sign a top RW) is such a waste of this kids true potential.

It’s not so much what we should expect, 20 goals would be a good campaign, but he’s barely played this season and still a managed close to 20. With a full season as first choice he would get so many more chances to get goals and we know how well he finishes. I honestly think he would score for fun.

I really hope he doesn't suffer any long term injuries, would be just typical.

If he can stay fit there is nothing he can't do in the game.

He isn't a RW. We saw the frailties at RW at the end of the season. Yes, he can do a job there but thats all, a job.

What happens when Martial needs a rest? Greenwood plays RW and then ST and he will get burnt out too.

I don't mind him playing RW/LW but he also needs to play some games as a CF.

Without doubt this kid will be a number 9. He has been throughout his youth, every aspect and strength within his game is suited to the no 9 position. I agree that currently we want both Martial and Mason on the pitch at the same time, for that reason I agree he stays at RW.

What I suggested in the other thread was that this provides even more reason for us to push for Sancho and address the weakness at RW with a player who's made for that position, then let Greenwood rotate with both Martial as a striker and Sancho at RW. I'd feel more comfortable that Mason was getting experience in his desired position under those circumstances, rather than just leaving him at RW out of convenience or a lack of willing to purchase Sancho.
