Mesut Özil

It's wasn't so much the fee but it was the circus and manner of the 40 plus 1 bid. Arsenal should have just lay 50 million on the table and see what happened. A serious and firm 50 million offer and Liverpool would have considered it.
No chance the £40,000,001 clause possibly triggered an escape clause but Suarez didn't want to play hardball to leave.

If a bigger club than Arsenal had bid for Suarez then he probably would have forced a move due to the clause in his contract. I doubt he was all that tempted by a move to Arsenal.

Liverpool weren't selling even at £50m

I think they would of sold for £50m, Rodgers was putting out feelers saying he is worth Cavani/Falcao money and imo they wanted something around the £50m mark for him. We should of just either paid up and got it done or moved on quicker and signed someone else. We did neither hence why we have Giroud....

I should mention the amount of stick Ozil gets here every time I've seen Mata this season (who moved for similar money and well accustomed to the league) he has looked terrible. I've seen him play out wide for Chelsea as well but was never this poor.

No doubt he'll get better because he is a very good player but a lot of big money signings getting a lot slack compared to Ozil

Rodgers knew any chance of top 4 was gone with Suarez - it simply wasn't happening without the player kicking up a shitstorm (which simply wasn't happening for a move to Arsenal). 'Would have' not 'would of' btw.

I personally think he would of gone with Sturridge and used the money to strengthen elsewhere. They put in a bid for Diego Costa and I think he wanted another CM as well. They'll need to spend money in the summer because unlike this season when they've had a game a week (or a game after 15 days today) they'll find it harder with their squad depth next season.

Did anyone see how brilliant Ozil was yesterday? Him and Ramsey together running the show. Spectacular football. Ozil's passing range and incision gave us back what we'd been missing.

I'm glad the away end seemed to appreciate him at least.

He looks good against shit teams, to be fair.

So what else is new?

If they want Ozil and want to be more direct why would they trade Fab? Fabregas would be a better option in central midfield behind Ozil.

I think Mata suits Barca more than Ozil does.

Mata, Kagawa, Silva is what I'd look at if I were Barcelona wanting to continue the tiki-taka. Let Iniesta play the Xavi role relying less on running and the new person play Iniestas role which they could do well.

I think they have had too much of it though, the fans seems to be against it as well as they have incredibly high standards that they like to reach from it. This year is considered a complete disgrace for them and had Messi not plummeted they might as well have been in the CL Semi's/Finals and won the league.

If Moyes had such a season we would have been lyrical about him, so there is just a different kind of pressure there.

We'll keep Silva, thanks!

Don't think he does at all, Ozil's general play is very good, very mobile and quick passer. I think the player that Barca really missed out on was Silva. Mata like Fabregas is more about the end product, his general play in build & mobility up isn't really top notch and that is why Fabregas looks out of place for Barca. Mata imo will look even worse than Fabregas in their possession based system.

I'd like to see what the Arsenal fans would think of such a swap.

Fabregas moved on and so did we, our midfield needs to be built around Ramsey + Ozil now, need a defensively strong player in there. I wouldn't say no to having him back but I wouldn't want a swap deal. Like I've said all along, stick a better striker, Theo & more mobile LW and Ozil will look a different player. Could see against Hull he was looking brilliant and much of that was down to Ramsey and runs he makes.

Wasn't he supposed fit in better than Van Persie? I seem to recall some gooner on here claiming he was going to be better for your lot than Van Persie as 'he's a big target man among little creative midgets' or something along the lines.

I can't speak for all Arsenal fans but I doubt many if any would of said that. I don't think any of us realised how slow and immobile he is. He looked ok earlier on in the season and when he has Theo, Ozil & Ramsey around he looks better as he gets support but otherwise he has not been good enough. I wouldn't mind keeping him as backup but definitely not a first choice striker.

Not an attack on you whatsoever, had to be Pete or Alistair, then. Probably Pete. I guess I'm not in a position to hunt others about their predictions seeing that I was dead sure we were going to finish 3rd in the league...

I think after what has happened with both clubs now is a time for quiet reflection on what went wrong ;)

As arrogant as it may sound, I think your lot got your customary season of the last 7 years, no? Being knocked out by Bayern shouldn't be seen as a shocking result and you'll get your CL spot (Everton won't beat City). And there's still FA Cup to win.

Fixed.

Like I said in the match thread I remember seeing Ozil play really well a few years ago when Real Madrid beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp. In particular I remember him playing a lovely through ball to Ronaldo to score the winner.

Since then though I must be a bad luck charm for him because whenever I watch him play he's either terrible or invisible, he scored tonight but he was absolutely rotten.

Still a class act that must have something if he's consistently picked. He's shown enough quality in the groups to merit a start ahead of Schurrle.

The amount of times I see this lad lose the ball, get dispossessed, and misplace passes is quite baffling for a player supposedly in the top bracket. I'm not just talking about tonight, it's been a feature of his game all season.
