Mesut Özil

Ozil had an 88% pass completion rate compared to Schürrle's 86% and was only dispossessed once. He touched the ball 55 times, only 7 less than Muller,
who played the whole game on the other side.
The sad Daily Mail and that one idiot who is the "moderator" of Sunday Supplement who critized Mesut for the game in München where he was injured. :D
Again; has he the best mind in the world? No. The best body language? No.
BUT he has that one pass in him, that one moment against any team in the world.
He was good today. All fine.

Pretty anonymous again tonight. Usurped (by far) by Müller, Kroos, Khedira and even Schürrle, who only played 45 minutes.

Enigma of a footballer.

I don't know which game you were watching but he provided about 2 assists tonight. Ozil isn't the type flair player who's going to dazzle the fans. He does the basic things well and makes the right runs and pass almost 99.9% of the time.

He wasn't anything special tonight but to write an article criticising him after that is absurd.

His finishing is pretty terrible isn't it?

He's never been a finisher but it's something he can work on at Arsenal as most of their mids are always coming up with goals. The criticism of his World Cup performances is rather stupid and shows most of these journalists know feck all about football. Against Portugal he was amazing and they still had an issue with his game.

If I had a pound for every 50-50 he pulled out of tonight, I'd have a few pounds.

Was much better tonight than previous games.

He was fine. Creativity doesn't boil down to goals and assists.

Christ, I'm beginning to feel like I'm the only man who hasn't been brainwashed.

Either that or I am the only one that has been.

I haven't been brainwashed. Ozil touches were class and if u analyze some German goals he actually made the initial pass to start the move.

I thought he did alright, he wasn't Germany's best player but he had a solid game. Shame he fluffed the chance at the end though.

I thought Ozil had a good game. Best I've seen him play in ages. Which is no great surprise, up against Sunday league defending. Still looked a level below most of Germany's other players, though. Him and Klose and the left back (whowever the feck his name was) stood out as the only German players not looking like gods amongst mortals. Kroos, Pigsticker, Khedira, Lahm and Muller were fricking sensational. Ozil was not.

Even that pass to Draxler was nowt special. If anything, it should have been better. Draxler had to hold his run to control the ball and this let the defender catch up.

But yeah, the Daily Heil article is nonsense.

Perfectly put

Did I dream or was he working harder than usual when it came to defending ? Specially in the first half.
He's doing that for most of the tournament in my opinion. Really surprised about it. He's nowhere near his best in a creative sense and his finishing is still horrible but he's fulfilling his role out wide very well, better than I expected. He's no liability without the ball, his stamina isn't a problem at all and in possession he's still very good at keeping the ball and distributing a few final balls from time to time. The magic is mostly gone, but we've got a solid winger instead and I'd say this is exactly what the team needs at the moment. It's a bit sad because I love watching him play in full flow but it's better for the team this way and maybe he gets his chance to shine in the final.

I don't think he's had a good world cup and I don't feel he was exceptional last night. That's all, "not exceptional", which a lot of his team mates were. He was actually alright in the first half (albeit not quite as involved as I would've expected) when the game was totally going Germany's way, and a bit more invisible (like a lot of them) in the second half when they decided to take it easy.

Absolutely no reason to publish an article about his performance last night, either way it wasn't worthy of it and there were loads of other topics of conversation.

Criticism of him by posters and other media though isn't necessarily agenda driven or due to brainwashing though alastair, it can be very fair and warranted. And no one has ever questioned his ability as a footballer, you know that very well so I don't see the need to bring that forward each time he's discussed. Yeah, he's great technically.

After an average end to last season, he's performed well in the World Cup. Put in a very good performance tonight and was Germany's best attacking player IMO. Neuer, Boateng, and Schweinsteiger were excellent, too.

Doesn't matter if he was unlucky or not during the WC. What I expected from him was a tough body language and hard-working performances at 110% until the 90th or even 120th minute and Özil delivered exactly that.

Not Germany's best attacking player, Schurrle was better than him.
Schürrle was more effective based on the beautiful pass to Götze for the winning goal, but I don't think he put in an overall better performance than Özil. Either way, both were effective.

Before the tournament, Löw encouraged Özil to change his body language. I think he's done just that in this World Cup. IMO, his work ethic has improved under Wenger, but he was more consistent at defending in this World Cup, though it's a small sample size.

Mesut Ozil.

FA Cup winner 2014. World Cup winner 2014. Germany's best attacking player in the final of the biggest tournament in the world.

Elated for him.

Ozil set up the most chances in the whole World Cup. He also laid on 2 fantastic assists to Kroos in a WC final. People love to hate.

he's had more than a decent world cup, think people are lining up to have a pop at him for no reason, fully deserves his winner's medal and will probably head into next year full of confidence again after seemingly suffering a dip towards the end of the season. could be a massive player for arsenal next season.

People were a bit harsh on him because of the pricetag, I've not wanted to comment on him because I can see him being fantastic next season very very easily as he showed tonight that he is a class player.

Big game bottler he ain't. One of the better players in the biggest game in world football. Wonderful footballer.
