What I'm expecting if Micky and O'Shea are out:

------------------Howard-----------------------

---Gaz-------Wes--------Rio---------Fortune---

-------------Keano---------Phil-----------------

---Kleberson--------Scholes------------Giggs----

---------------------Ruud-----------------------

If Wes isn't ready I'd put Gaz in the centre and Phil goes back into right back. Then Butt goes into partner Keano in the defensive midfield position. Or if Keano is still out as well then Butt and Djemba will take those holding spots.

Although personally I'd put Kleb in the middle with Ronaldo on the right.

I think we can safely assume that Ronaldo is not about to play 2 games within 51 hours.

.......................Howard..........................
..G Neville...Ferdinand....Brown.....Fortune....
.................Keano....P Neville...................
...Scholes........Forlan............Giggs........
....................Ruud..........................

why the hell not, he`s 18yr old! he`s not 40!!

simply becuase he's 18 and not 23.

and i'd question if wes is ready to play 90.

Agree with that. Wes' return was scheduled for the 15th of January, we shouldn't be fecking about with this one just cos we have a defensive crisis.

I have a very bad feeling about this one. Wouldn't normally be so pessimistic but I'm certain we're going to get turned over. Mik and Josh out, Keano not totally fit, with our record against Middlesborough and a game 2 days earlier it does not look good :nervous:

I not too optimistic about this one, Boro are probably the hardest team to break down due to the way they play and 60% of their games have been clean sheets, so its gonna be a really tough one. And we never do well against them anyway, with them always catching us on the break!!.

Looking that arsenal always beat them easily I think we have to pick an attacking team and I would like to see scholes and kleberson play.

Ferguson has defensive concerns ahead of tomorrow's visit to Middlesbrough. John O'Shea is out with a hamstring strain, while Mikael Silvestre is rated extremely doubtful after injuring his knee in a touchline collision with Francis Jeffers.

from soccernet

and 0-0 scorelines on boro's last 3 home matchs means we need to attack to defend!

None of Oshea or silvestre will play, so we will probably see a back four of Gary-Wes-Rio-Fortune.

Who scheduled Wes's return on January 15? I don't remember Fergie saying anything about it.

Keane won't play if he's not fully fit, and Boro are also playing two matches in 48 hours - and I don't think they rested a few of their top players like we did. So stop looking for early excuses.

hmm, tetchy.

SAF said on MUTV that Wes was due to come back on the 15th.

No Keano is even worse than an unfit Keano in a tough midwinter away match.

Yes, they played too. But this time they're at home, and we're away.

I'm not looking for excuses, I'm giving reasons why I think we're going to have problems. Do you have a problem?

Nicky really deserves his place after yesterday's match.

We might need Wes on the bench just in case.

I would despair if we rushed Wes back for one game and he picked up a season-ending injury. Not worth it. I say move Keane to the back and Fortune to the left, pairing up Neville and Djemba in midfield to stifle Boro's flair players. Scholes, Giggs and Ruud in for Forlan, Bellion and Ronaldo.

I agree about not playing Wes but if Keano's fit he should play at CM. So Gaz at CB and Phizza at RB, with Butt at CM - and Djemba too if Keano isn't fit.

I'm not too sure about Butt. He had a very good game vs Everton but I feel his lack of matches recently may mean 2 games in 3 days is too much too soon. I think Djemba will play and so will Neville Jnr and Keano, but where they will play is anyone's guess.

We know Tweety & Josh are out.
Keane may still be hurt but available to play a less taxing CB role?
Brown played a friendly against Burnley the other day but must be far from EPL match fit . . . on the bench perhaps?
SAF will probably want to rest Ronaldo & possibly Kleberson too with Nicky a possible starter?

So . . . I'd be tempted to play . . .

----------Howard-------------

-Gazza--Rio--Keano--Fortune--

-Fletcher--Scholes--Phil--Giggs- Note the all-Brit Midfeild!

-----------Forlan--------------

----------------Ruud----------

If Keane is out, then

----------Howard-------------

-Phil----Rio--Gazza----Fortune-

-Fletcher--Scholes--Butt--Giggs- still an all-Brit Midfeild!

-----------Forlan--------------

----------------Ruud----------

Kleb will play, as will D2 and Ronaldo might get a shot too. Or Wes might get a few minutes at the end when the game's going well.

He said that Ole's return is going to be on the 15th but I dont think he gave a date for Wes' return if im not mistaken.

hm...think id probably go along with that.

Though now he has a little more confidence, could be worth putting Ronaldo on the bench in case things go tits up?

Hasn't Wes played 2 reserve games lately...anybody seen him in action in these games?

Agree that we shouldn't play Wes if he's not ready for a 90-mins game. What about the youngster Bardsley? He played against WBA in the League-cup, didn't he?

This is my starting XI against Boro, and I assume that Silvestre and O'Shea is out of the game.

SAF on Brown: "To be honest, he's not quite right for the first team but he will be at Boro and could even play. Three years ago when he came back from another cruciate operation, he played just one reserve game, went in at West Ham and was terrific. Whether he plays may depend on Silvestre."

Fingers crossed The Cat plays....dare I say The Cat is more irreplaceable than Rio?

On balance, I'd play Phil at RB and ask Butty to do the manmarking job on Juninho (main threat on current form).

I'd bench Brown and try and give him 20 minutes against one of the more shot shy team in the Premiership. Kleb seemed to be carrying an injury vs Everton which is why I've left him out.

I agree that Wes should be on the bench and get at least half an hour. Fergie said he's bringing him so I can see him getting some time on the field. Finally I get to see a game. Visiting my folks in Middlesbrough for xmas and who should be up here playing............can't wait.....last game I went to was United Arse 6-1 so lets hope I can repeat the occasion!
It's a beautiful day up here in M'bro, not a cloud in the sky but it's still brass monkey weather. C'mon REDS
