MLS All-Stars v Manchester United - Pre-Season Tour

Great game!
Chicharito scores
Cleverly scored a beauty
Gibson- what a free kick
Kiko- 2 goals

Cleaverly looks potentially like a real player, him and Welbeck both had good a good tournament. Great free kick from Gibson and nice to see Hernadez score as well. Thought our ball retention was a bit poor at times but made up for it with some nice passing moves and one-two's at other times. Good game.

I'm going to explode with excitement....so eager for Cleverley, Welbeck and Macheda to make it.

It was an exhibition game and they were up 2-0 pretty fast. I'm mostly concerned with the set piece defending. Good to Macheda get two though.

Vidic will sort that out.

Haha the ESPN story is titled "United They Win," their title on the front page of the whole site after the 2009 CL Final was "United They Lose"

I wish Fabio wasnt made of matchsticks :(

And fecking hell Gibson, i felt the earth shake when he 'jogged' onto the field, hardly professional is it, strolling on the pitch nearing the end of a pre season tour about 5 stone heavier than the rest, sort it out lad.

lol He would make the wall on set pieces that much stronger. lol:lol:

He did get away when his grandfather died. Maybe he's packed a few on in the last week while mourning?

No he looked rather 'heavyset' in the Cletic game to before he flew home, i dont think a bit of comfort eatings done that anyway it looks like a good couple of months of solid big mac and fries!

Either way hes grosly overweight at this stage of pre season and it stands out like a sore thumb when your peers are half your size while your filling your shirt!

Giggs is 15 years older than Gibson and half the size, he needs to sort it out.

Just home from watching my first United game live - it was with my son and am grinning ear to ear.

Only drawback was this fan with a "Duncan Edwards is Alive" or something like that t-shirt that kept pointing to it and trying to call attention to himself in front of me.

Atmosphere was kinda eh in no singing and chanting not that I contributed but still - was a great great feeling to watch them.

You mean there weren't the odd annoying twats blowing Vuvuzelas ? I had that at the game in Kansas City.

There were a couple people that snuck them in but, only blew them a few times. They were banned from being brought in.

The worst part is I missed opening goal because the group the t-shirt guy was in insisted on standing so everyone else was had to stand behind them - by the time I realized we had even kicked off - we had scored.

Outside the domed Reliant Stadium, Peter Holland, a Mancunian who has been resident in New York City for 33 years, was signing up some of those American 'Red Devils' to the club's USA Supporters Club which is 5,000-strong.

"United were first in the marketplace over here, the first team to make an impact on television," Holland told Reuters as fans queued up in the heat to add their names to the membership list.

"The American public are very, very knowledgeable about football, a lot of Europeans might not think that but they are smart and they saw United on television, playing fantastic football and people decided to follow them."

Andrew Wise, a 19 year old from New Orleans, was among those proudly wearing the colours, even though he has never seen the club's Old Trafford home.

"My first ever jersey was a United jersey when I was five and since then it has been United all the way. We went to England once but the only game we could go to was at Millwall," he said, referring to the London club.

Congrats!

I heard a rendition of 'Ooh Ahh Cantona' and a few other songs. I guess in that stadium though there could be songs going on in four different parts of the crowd and folks wouldn't be able to hear what the other group were singing. The atmosphere sounded pretty intense on the TV though. Especially when Hernandez came on.

For anyone that didn't see the match:-

from reading this thread this morning, slightly annoyed that i DIDNT stay up late to watch the game.

Likewise.

Having to be at work at 7:30 doesn't help, but the game in hindsight looked worth it.

I think you're all over-rating the All-Star team. All-Star teams tend to be a bit crap because they're thrown together over a very short period of time and don't get any chance to work out each other's games. Plus they're American and we all know Americans aren't good at football.

Nine times out of ten I'd back the club side over the all-star side. The only thing stopping me from predicting a comfortable United victory is the fact that our back four also looked as though they'd never played a game together in the last tour game (probably because they hadn't!)

Might be a bit different if this team has loads of "team USA" internationals in it, just back from the world cup? If so, they'll be a tougher nut to crack but I'd still fancy a United to hump the American international team more often than not.

Heh. To think I got accused of being on a WUM when I said this yesterday afternoon.

I just got home from the game after driving back to Dallas from Houston.

I am exhausted and elated at the same time.

Loved the match, and I enjoyed the American United fans. Not much singing, but that's to be expected for fans who aren't regular match-goers.

United was definitely the dominant presence among the 70,000 fans. I knew there were a lot of U.S. Reds, but seeing it is something else.

The highlight was seeing Hernandez' debut (even if it isn't his Premiership debut) and his debut goal for the club. Propitious beginnings.

To be fair, they're mid-way through their season (so match fit), and although they lack the cohesion of a real "team" we played a young and inexperienced side which could be argued to have the same problem.

I agree that beating an All-Star team isn't some sort of monumental result, it is still a friendly, but that shouldn't detract from what was largely a very good performance.
