Neymar

Genuinely gutted for him. Really feel for him.

:( Horrible news. I know they are all pampered to no end, are a bunch of diving primadonnas, are madly overpaid while others starve etc. but this was shaping up to be his tournament. It's bad enough for anyone to miss the World Cup & I know it has happened to many good players, but Neymar has always come across as someone who is extraordinarily proud to represent his country. Despite his haircut and other such things, everyone who knows him has only good things to say about him - supposedly, he's extremely humble & is a good person in general. He's just a kid, after all - even if they win it, he'll know he didn't take them there (when he should have been the one to do it). I know i'm being dramatic, but i'd hate to see him miss the last two games - he'll never have the chance to lead his country to the WC on home soil ever again, this was going to be the pinnacle of their many WC wins, surely?

Is it just wishful thinking that it may just be a Rooney vs Bayern ploy, when he is actually going to be fit in time for the semi/final? I'll wait until tomorrow to see more confirmation.

Regardless of your thoughts on him that's a terrible injury.

Not really. He probably did not break the main part of the vertebra, there is a little bit of bone that sticks off the back, and I would guess that is what actually broke. A fairly minor injury and one that Clint Dempsey would probably play through without leaving the field.

To be fair, though, the US does have better performance enhancing drugs.

Harsh on Neymar but I'm finding it hard to feel sorry for Brazil, they went out with a game plan to target Colombia's best players, mainly Rodriguez, there's no place in game for that, how Rodriguez didn't pick up an injury I'll never know. I'm a big believer in karma.

Feel very bad for him.

He's carried Brazil on his back.

Did he, the games I saw him he showed only occasional flashes of quality.
Anyone old enough to remember 1986 will have witnessed a great player carrying a team on his back.

Feel for him. He must have been looking forward to this like crazy and for it to all be gone. At least he can say he had a good tournament overall and has further solidified himself as Brazil's main guy. Also, in a way, if Brazil get knocked out next round (with I think was going to happen regardless) the excuse can always be "Neymar got injured", further adding to his importance and popularity there.

Not that its any consolation. Lets hope that this injury is one he can recover from without future problems developing from it.

Feel bad for him, as much as people hate him for his diving and rolling around, you have to respect the amount of pressure and expectation he was under from everyone and how he seemed to take it without a problem, despite being only 22.

It's an accidental injury though, everyone bends their legs when they jump to try and get extra elevation, he didn't shove his knee in neymars back on purpose, it just happened and Neymar was unfortunate to get injured from it.

Karma for Brazil, kicked Colombia and other teams around the field throughout the World Cup. So hard to feel sorry for them.

True. The term is used far too often these days.

Quality player, shame I wont see anymore of him as I dont really watch la liga frequently

So breaking his back seem fair to you ? Did any Brazil player seriously hurt anyone ?

It was not on purpose, how ever Brazil tactics most games, and especially this one was to get over physical with teams and disrupt them. It turns the game ugly and the opposition is just going to do it back. What was it today, 36 fouls by Brazil?

It sucks for the kid, and i don't wish injury on anyone. How ever as i said, the way Brazil have played at times this tournament, it's almost karma.

Saying that, the way the ref was letting it go on, i'm surprise nobody had a snapped leg or something.

An edit to the thread title maybe? Would have missed it if it weren't for the locked thread in the WC forum.

Zuniga went in to hurt Neymar. It is obvious on the replays.

Hang on, fractured vertebrae?! That's much worse than a broken rib, right? Hope he recovers soon, poor lad.

Nah that only happened to Anthony Van Den Borre because Austrailan referee Bejanim Williams refused to card South Korea for it's dangerous play.

At international level he already has.
No he hasn't. He plays for a much better and more settled national side. Even in this World Cup, messi has been far better. He doesn't just pop up with a goal and keep falling to the floor. He actually gets involved and influences matches, goal a game or not.

Ofc it is. You will have difficulty breathing in a rib fracture but with vertebra you'll have difficult standing erect. Even if the fracture is on a tiny posterior part, the attachment of spinal muscles can cause it to displace. Complete bed rest for a few weeks atleast.
Edit: Its his lower back. Even worse.

Don't like him or this Brazil side, so I'm not whooping but I'm not exactly gutted shall we say.

Has Messi been better though? He's been in and out of games as much as anyone. Don't get me wrong he's been better as each game has progressed but the first game, had he not scored, a lot of people would have said he was shite, all he did was give the ball away. Second he didn't do much and he's not ran either of the others. Just his moments of genius to score the goals (or assist Di Maria) have been telling. Much like Neymar.

As a German fan, I'm very happy to see that he's not playing against us. However, as someone who has chronic back pain due to an injury I sustained from lifting..I'm very sad for him.

I wish back pain on no one in this world, maybe not even my worst enemies.

Anyone notice how when they put him on the stretcher they ran with him, hardly top medical care

I hate injuries during or before world cups. You want to see Neymar, Reus, Ribery, Falcao at the world cup. Hope he recovers quickly. I can't believe how many people where saying he was faking before and as he got stretchered off the pitch. Oh well.

I don't dislike him the way most seem to and I think he's managed the immense pressure he is under really well so I feel bad for him. Not for Brazil though, they tried to kick lumps out of Rodriguez and hurt him throughout the game.

Gutted for Neymar. The one bright light in what may be the worst Brazilian team in World Cup history. Rest well and speedy recovery. Hope you don't get bitten by your new teammate Suarez at Barca.
